TL;DR

In a world where humans have mysteriously dissappeared, Pokemon have taken it upon themselves to take their place in society, hoping that their trainers and beloved friends will return.



It's a Beautful night on December 24th. Christmas Eve. Everyone is asleep with all their pokemon in large piles...
Christmas Morning arives, and all the Pokemon go to wake their trainers up... They're gone. Confused and worried, everyone gathers in the Kalos Region, just outside of Lumios Tower. All of the Legendaries are there, overlooking the mass confusion. They explain that their Human Companions have mysteriously dissappeared overnight, and that they have to do something about it. So the legendaries sent out various search parties in an attempt to find their human companions... Alas, after a few years of constant searching, nothing came up...

On December 24th on the 5th year without Humans, every pokemon gather back in Lumios City. The Legendaries tell everyone that until the humans return, they and the rest of the pokemon shall take their place in society.

... 10 years later...

Pokemon have deconstructed most of the human cities and towns, and have expanded the lands to create huge kingdoms, one for each type, and each ruled by a corresponding Legendary. Yveltal rules over the Dark Kingdom, Zaptos rules over the Electric Kingdom, etc.

Just recently, a group of Pokemon Scientists have discovered that if a Pokemon evolves in certain situations and environments, their evolved form will be better adapted to survive in those situations. they have dubbed these variants "Subspecies", and are still looking into the full potential of these. They have also discovered that all the Pokemon, including the Legendaries, are becoming more and more... Anthro, as the humans used to call it. They have concluded that they're going to look like their long lost human friends in a few hundred years, yet will retain all of the abilities and moves as their pokemon counterparts.

This is where our stories begin.
