  1. Hiroshi stared at me. Slowly, he brought up his foot, struck down, and the one colored painting in the compound fell from its place several feet behind me. The safe revealed, we stared at the thing for a long while. “That’s a big safe…” the boy pointed out the obvious, completely forgetting my oversight. “And you’re saying it might be booby-trapped?”
  2.
  3. “If I made it?” I asked him, “Oh, most definitely.” Back in Amestris, as my wealth grew, I shifted my money between various banks across the nation. Still operating on a gold standard, these banks were all but forced to keep the money deep underground in carefully designed and trapped safes. Only I or someone I approved of could get in, let alone know about their existence.
  4.
  5. …I wondered if anyone had stolen from those banks after I left. With the amount of time that had passed since I left, it stood to reason that my assets would be liquidated… but that was assuming they weren’t stolen when the whole nation erupted into chaos – a chaos that was in no way my fault. It was the homunculi. It was all the homunculi’s fault. Yeah… that’s it…
  6.
  7. “What’s with that shifty look?”
  8.
  9. “Nothing!” I answered too quickly, “So, uh, guess I’ll just break it open.” My fingers extended and curled into claws, “Just gotta pierce and pull… and pray.” Pray that there wasn’t a bomb inside the safe that’d blow me apart. After all, explosions were… I considered that.
  10.
  11. Hiroshi looked at my claws with a remarkable level of calm, only raising his brows at the sight of them. “Did you do that in our fight?” he asked. I made to answer, but he stopped me, “Never mind. Just… there’s no way that they stuffed blasting jelly in there with their money, right?”
  12.
  13. “Nah…” I shook my head, “That’d just be silly.” I pierced the metal safe door and started pulling in a single motion, A grunt of exertion escaped my lips, “Just… a little… more… force…” My feet were positioned on either side of the safe door, my arms pulling from the center. Eventually, something had to give.
  14.
  15. Finally, with a shriek of bending steel ripped by spatially extended fingertips, the metal door snapped to pieces from the middle as I fell backwards with an undignified shout. I fell on my ass and a chunk of steel fell between my legs.
