  5. Parts Of Speech (“kinds” of words):
  6. verbs = actions and states
  7. nouns = things (including people and places)
  8. adverbs = modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs
  9. adjectives = modify nouns (and pronouns)
  10. pronouns = replace nouns in a sentence
  11. determiners = before noun phrases, including articles, demonstratives, quantifiers, and possessives
  12. prepositions = give adjective or adverb information relating to a noun
  13. conjunctions = connect phrases and clauses
  14. interjection = give “emotional” information about the speaker, but not about the words in the sentence
  15. ---
  16. Many words can be multiple parts of speech.

  30. Many parts of speech have multiple “kinds” within them:
  31. verbs - auxiliary / main, action / non-action (dynamic / stative), transitive / intransitive
  32. nouns - count / noncount, proper / common
  33. adjectives - gradable/ungradable
  34. adverbs - frequency/certainty/manner/etc., gradable/ungradable
  35. conjunctions - coordinating / subordinating
