  1. I do agree with this statement
  2. The Wall Street Crash had had a detrimental effect on the Japanese Economy because they were the number one trading partner of the USA, to get over the Great Depression by building up an empire; but to do that, they wanted to build up an empire.
  3. By February, 1932, Japan had completed its invasion of Manchuria. Japan claimed that the Chinese had damaged the South Manchurian Railway, and had to invade to put it right. After they invaded, they set up a puppet state that they called Manchukuo, which literally means "State of Manchuria". China, who owned Manchuria before it was conquered, appealed to the League of Nations for help. The League of Nations sent a team of investigators called the Lytton Commission, they took almost a year just to produce a report that just said that Japan should leave Manchuria. Japan didn't comply with the request to leave Manchuria and instead left the League of Nations. They then invaded the Chinese Province of Jehol.

  5. The League of Nations failed here because they let a member get away with invading another country. Lots of countries had major trading links with Japan, so they couldn't agree on any unbiased sanctions. They couldn't even agree on a ban on weapon sales. The league failed because many countries were biased towards Japan due to trading.

  7. Mussolini invaded Abyssinia (Now Ethiopia) in 1935, because Italy wanted an Empire like the Romans. The Italians used weapons that completely outclassed the Abyssinians such as Tanks and Guns, they invaded Abyssinia for their resources and land. When Hasse Lelassie, the leader of Abyssinia, appealed to the League of Nations for help, the League had a chance to redeem themselves.
  8. They didn't make the same mistake they had with Japan and immediately enforced a ban on weapon sales in July 1935, which hindered Abyssinia more than it hindered Italy. Italy built up its forces on the border of Abyssinia and in October of the same year it invaded Abyssinia. In December 1935 the Hoare-Laval Pact was thought up. This pact offered to give Two-Thirds of Abyssinia to Italy. Italy ignored this Pact and decided to invade the whole of Abyssinia, they had finished the conquering by May 1936.

  10. The League's major mistake with Abyssinia was not enforcing a ban on coal Sales to Italy, they didn't enforce this for fear that the British Economy would be injured in doing so. Another major mistake was that they did not close the Suez canal, Italy’s main supply route to Abyssinia, for fear it would spark full scale war. Whilst Britain and France were occupied in the Abyssinian crisis, Hitler was sending troops into the Rhineland. After this failure at the hands of the League, nobody took them seriously any more and World War Two was set into motion

  13. In both cases, the League of Nations let a country invade another country. The League could have avoided the failures if they had imposed the correct bans, firstly a ban on Firearm sales to Japan, and lastly a Ban on Coal sales to Italy, both would have been Crucial to ensure the Countries fail in invading their respective country
