  1. Official Notice : Meera Bhawan Official In-Time Restriction Removal Trial Run
  2.
  3. The University Grants Commission (UGC) along with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has banned the imposition of discriminatory rules, including hostel curfews for women. Violations might result in withdrawal of recognition of the institution imposing such rules. Keeping this in mind, in a historic decision, after a two-day door-to-door survey and discussions with the institute, the in-time restriction on Meera Bhawan residents has been officially removed by the Institute for the period starting from 19th November till the end of the semester. Based on feedback received from students and parents during this period, the in-time restriction will be permanently removed for current and all future batches. The institute's decision returns the female students of the campus the equal right to choose when to enter and exit their bhawans, a privilege that has only been enjoyed by their male counterparts till date.
  4.
  5. How did this happen?
  6.
  7. After setting up a channel of communication with the institute, a door-to-door survey was held in Meera Bhawan by SU members and volunteers between 10th-11th November, where all Meera residents(undergraduates and graduates) were asked for "Yes" or "No" responses to two questions - "Should the girls' hostel in-time restriction be removed?" and "Has the in-time restriction hampered your productivity and performance?". The responses with signatures of 477(82%) people out of the total 581 residents were recorded, with 104 residents unavailable for comment during the survey. An overwhelming majority of MB residents agreed to the removal of the in-time restriction (95.8%) and acknowledged it's role in hampering their productivity and performance (89.7%). Keeping in mind the wishes of the students, the institute has decided to remove the in-time restriction for the rest of the semester to gauge responses from students and parents and take further action.
  8.
  9. What does this mean for me?
  10.
  11. For MB residents, this means you can leave and enter the Meera Bhawan premises at any time of your choice. MB residents who wish to avail the services of IPC/ANC/Library post in-time, wish to work on group projects in labs, contribute to post in-time club/department work, perform to their best abilities in leadership roles, get involved in technical teams where work stretches till late at night, will now be able to do so without any restrictions or complex procedures imposed by the institute.
  12.
  13. Following a successful trial run till the end of the semester, the in-time restriction will be permanently removed. It is hence a request to the student community-at-large to take responsibility of their actions and ensure the successful trial of this removal so that continued efforts to get it removed do not go to waste, considering it's positive effect on not only the current batches but future batches that will enter BITS.
  14.
  15. Since parents are major stakeholders in this process, after the trial run, a No-Objection Letter might be required from the parents of female wards to accelerate the process of removing the in-time restriction permanently. All MB residents are hence requested to make an effort at the personal level to engage their parents in the discussion and convince them of the merits of this decision.
