  26. B. Elimination of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related
  27. Historically, Burkina Faso has been challenged by turbulent political regimes and was drastically altered by colonization, bringing a great amount of European culture while casting aside the traditions of the citizens already there. Because of this intervention, the country faced harsh conflict from its people which lead to the multiple temporary leaders the country has had in the past. When people needed to unite under a strong leader that person was not there.
  28. The efforts to defeat adversity in West Africa headed by Burkina Faso include mandates such as REFAD, APED-LIBERTES, MBDHP, UIDH and the Association for the Promotion of Women. The REFAD mandate primarily focused on women having equal opportunity as citizens and individuals. The Association for the Promotion of Women also focuses on combatting the sexism that is prevalent in Burkina Faso, giving information to primarily woman who couldn’t hear of these things otherwise. The Gender Quota Law has also made the representation of female candidates at a minimum of 30% in races.
  29. A. Rights of indigenous peoples
  30. Because of a greater push in the development of non-traditional economies and the social pressures that globalized parts of West Africa put on Native tribes of Burkina Faso, there is a notable decline in the population of these indigenous peoples. Often, tribes like The Peul and Tuareg are no longer living as nomads and are sedentarised in a certain location because of a lack of roam-able land. It is also notable that the constitution of Burkina Faso does not recognize indigenous people
  31. While the rights to an education and health extend to all by the constitution’s rule, many native people will go without this public service. Not being recognized as a race does affect them greatly, but the APED-LIBERTES mandate has come to help them by including the uncovered indigenous people as not an ethnicity, but as part of the lower social class. This law is designed to help those of low socioeconomic standpoints and get equal representation for the lower cast of Burkina Faso’s society.
  32. D. Torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment including capital punishment
  33. Often times when a country is in dire straits, the use of force is made necessary. But the idea of torture has been decided to be inhumane. With such turbulent regimes being the central governing factor, torture would have to be done to find unity in Burkina Faso. Since the stabilization of Burkina Faso’s government, the nation has followed in the steps of the rest of the world in its eradication efforts.
  34. The recent mandate called The Movement for Human and Peoples' Rights aims to create political stability by educating the public on how this treatment affects the relations between societies. The enforcement of humane punishment has been enforced much more heavily since Burkina Faso’s hosting of this conference, leading to an initiative to enforce law properly. The push for a healthier relationship with feuding countries is also notable by the amount of international relations improving legislation.
  35. C. International migration and development
  36. Burkina Faso is a primarily agriculture based society with focus on cotton and livestock as major exports. Based on the geographical nature of the country, the lack of irrigation has been difficult for the industry to have a certain supply of water for its crops throughout history. While it is possible that the lack of water could be remedied by new agricultural technologies, Burkina Faso is very under developed in its innovation of industrial technology. Because of this same lack of innovation, the country is still modeling an almost traditional economy. Traditional economies such as Burkina Faso’s means that the economic conditions aren’t preferable to migrants looking for work. Without the human capital or the technology, the result is the 6th least developed nation
  37. The lack of immigration into the country is evident by a negative net migration rate. This is quite problematic for Burkina Faso. The solution for this is national public works, giving people basic necessities, which would allow people to pursue socioeconomic betterment instead of worrying about malnutrition or lack of sanitation. The work on this has been slow and may lead to an expansion of the agreements made with the European Union to combat this.
