Bowser uses his magic wand thing to turn all the people of the Mushroom Kingdom into bricks, coins, goombas, and other things. He does this so he can capture Princess Toadstool, and has hidden her in one of eight castles. Mario goes through four levels, only to find a mushroom person with a weird hat. Mario goes on, only to find harder enemies. Now you have to deal with Hammer Bros and Lakitus. Mario gets Princess Toadstool and lives happily ever after.

Then Bowser does this once again, but has adopted kids helping him out. Mario defeats the wave of enemies with new power-ups and lives happily ever after with Princess Toadstool.

Now you have to go through 17 other adventures to save the princess. Have fun!
