  2. In today’s modern age the Internet has become a primary medium for sharing information and communication across the globe. On the internet people enjoy fully their right of freedom to information, but no matter how much the internet has facilitated people’s lives on a daily basis it also violates people’s privacy in various ways.

  4. Luxembourg ranks among the best connected countries in Europe, almost every household has Internet access at home and the mobile Internet is also widely-used (Statec survey on the utilisation of information and communication technologies, February 2014) (www.luxembourg.public.lu)

  6. Luxembourg adopted an Act concerning the Use of Nominal Data in Computer Processing in 1979. The law regulates individually identifiable automated personal records regarding public and private computer files. All databanks including personal data have to be registered, and data subjects have the right to access their personal data and correct it if inaccurate.   8. Safer Internet Day (SID) has been launched at the initiative of the European Commission and organized by the international network INSAFE. The 12th edition has been held worldwide on February 10, 2015 with Luxembourg also taking its part to raise awareness and mobilization for safe and responsible use of digital media. When looking into future Internet privacy matters in a planetary sense, the common goal of all countries, including Luxembourg is decentralized network of heterogeneous devices, user-centric and user-provided collaborative applications. Although Luxembourg is already achieving remarkable results towards high levels of internet security and privacy, what the country ought to do is put an emphasis on maintenance and improvement on these well established regulations.
