  1. The Character Meme: Part 1, Ipod
  2. A. Choose up to 5 OCs, RPCs, or FCs that are yours. If you do not have 5 characters, you may either make up one on the spot, use a character from an anime, manga, movie, book, etc. of some sort, or leave them blank. Remember to give a quick summary about the character, be it physical description, personality, past, or a combination of the 3!
  3.
  4. 1. Zora Blackwood: The buffest short latina woman on the planet, who married a very rich man and suffers dreams of other universes.
  5.
  6.
  7. 2. Midnight Vargas: Master thief and daughter of a Cuban refugee. Was blind and crippled once upon a time, but she met Mexican Jesus and now she’s not.
  8.
  9.
  10. 3. Chandra Hayward: A vaguely Indian-presenting teenager with strange white hair. One of the surviving void-touched children of Zariman Ten-Zero. “Sparked” during a battle with a Sentient and has major trust issues.
  11.
  12.
  13. 4. Zorana Smith: Six feet tall and ridiculously ginger. Actually the goddess of the afterlife reincarnated.
  14.
  15.
  16. 5. Angel Sharma: Blonde-haired, blue-eyed loose-cannon cop on the edge, which is a bit silly considering she’s a brown-skinned lesbian and not a straight white male.
  17.
  18.
  19. B. Get a hold of a playlist of some sort, be it your ipod, your computer, a youtube playlist, etc. Turn it on shuffle. (NOTE: If you do not know how to turn your playlist on shuffle, you can either simply choose songs at random, or have it organized in some other way.) When a song plays, a question regarding the song will be on this meme. Roleplay out the experience with your character. You can either choose to only write for the duration of the song, or simply replay it over and over until you're done. Whatever you are most comfortable with. Let the fun begin!
  20.
  21.
  22. I. Character 5 is walking around town when they hear this song in a building of your choice. Do they inspect the source of the music, does the song remind them of a friend, do they encounter a monster in the building, etc.?
  23.
  24. The Days – Avicii
  25.
  26. Another day, another wasted shift of meter maid duty. Angel grumbled a bit. This isn’t what she went through police academy for. What happened to justice? Shootouts with drug dealers in seedy back alleys? She supposed those things happened too, she just didn’t want to be stuck on meter duty.
  27.
  28. She passed by a small studio apartment building, and checked the meters there. As she began to write a ticket, she also began to notice the music playing through an open window on the second story.
  29.
  30. “These are the days we’ve been waiting for, on days like these who could ask for more?..”
  31.
  32. She knew this song. It wasn’t her usual fare, but it was upbeat and catchy, at least. She stopped writing her ticket, and listened for a while. When the track faded out, she crushed the ticket in her hand and walked off. Maybe it was time to cash in that vacation time, after all.
  33.
  34.
  35. II. Character 3 happens to walk outside the same building, a different song playing this time. Does Character 3 encounter Character 5, do they simply ignore the music, etc.?
  36.
  37. Don’t Threaten Me With A Good Time – Panic! At The Disco
  38.
  39. …. And speaking of dealers in back alleyways: Today, Chandra creeped out from behind that same apartment building, just as the song began to change.
  40.
  41. “Champaigne, cocaine, gasoline; and most things in between~”
  42.
  43. Now didn’t that sound like a good idea. She may have been physically juvenile, but she had the mind of an adult, and all the scars to bare for it. She tucked the baggies she had been given into the pocket of the moth-eaten jacket she was loaned. When you had dealt with as much fucked up shit as her, sometimes you just wanted to go mental.
  44.
  45. When she came around the corner and saw Angel walking off, she jumped back into the alleyway. No way was she getting caught. Especially not by somebody she knew.
  46.
  47.
  48. III. A character is out partying with friends, when the music suddenly changes to this song. Are they annoyed, happy, apathetic, etc.? Choose either Character 1 or 4.
  49.
  50. Welcome to the Black Parade – My Chemical Romance
  51.
  52. Zorana remembered the last time she was at a wedding. It was a brisk autumn day just like this, and it was one of her cousins getting married. Albeit, that time, it wasn’t exactly Halloween was it?
  53.
  54. She eyed the punch bowl nervously. This time, she wasn’t going to trust it. Not with her younger sister having been invited.
  55.
  56. Over the speakers, a G-note on a piano rang out, and all of a sudden she got chills. All of a sudden, she was standing in a forest, ten years ago, speaking with what was then her boyfriend about one of his exes that was coming to that wedding. He lived for that sort of music, so it all took on quite a nostalgic angle for her.
  57.
  58. “When I was, a young boy; my father took me into the city, to see a marching band…”
  59.
  60. She wondered what he was doing now, and looked at the punch bowl again.
  61.
  62. Maybe a toast wouldn’t hurt.
  63.
  64. IV. A character of your choice is with a girlfriend/boyfriend/random person in a hotel room, when another character of your choice suddenly stumbles out of the closet, drunkenly singing this song.
  65.
  66. High School Never Ends – Bowling For Soup
  67.
  68. “Just what I needed.” Zora stretched and flumped backward on the hotel bed. “A nice night alone in a new city with my most beloved husband.
  69.
  70. “My honor to bring you with me, poppet.” The dark-haired man slid up next to her, wrapping an arm around her. “But, there is a problem.”
  71.
  72. “… What’s that.”
  73.
  74. “You still have clothes on.”
  75.
  76. “You naughty bastard.”
  77.
  78. “Would you have me any other way?”
  79.
  80. “I wouldn’t. Now fix it.”
  81.
  82. Before Jack could even make a move to do so, the couple was interrupted by a loud THUMP from inside one of the closets. The door exploded open, revealing one ginger mortician and a red solo cup.
  83.
  84. “The… the whole damn world is just as obsessed… with who’s the best dressed an’… an’ who’s havin’ sex...”
  85.
  86. The husband and wife exchanged a glance.
  87.
  88. “Welp.” Zora started. “The goddess of the afterlife just exploded out of the closet singing mid-2000s scene hits. Your problem.”
  89.
  90. “Wh-”
  91.
  92.
  93. V. Character 2 is stuck in an elevator for three days, this song being played over and over in it. How do they respond to this possibly "harrowing ordeal"?
  94.
  95. Under Pressure – Queen feat. David Bowie
  96.
  97. Well, at least she hadn’t lost Ice Ice Baby Roulette.
  98.
  99. If Midnight had been stuck in this elevator for this long listening to that monstrosity she would have hung herself by her pants by now. Well, this was just great. This was supposed to be an easy heist. Now not only was the elevator broken when no one knew she was here, so was the sound system.
  100.
  101. Fuck this. She wasn’t gonna be stuck in here for three days. She liked this song, but not that much.
  102.
  103. She climbed her way up to a grate on the ceiling of the elevator, and took a screwdriver to its bolts, squirming her way out through the vent.
  104.
  105. Now all she had to do was climb the shaft.
  106.
  107.
  108. VI. Out of character 4 and 3, who is most likely to be caught humming, beating, or singing this song?
  109.
  110. Immortals – Fall Out Boy
  111.
  112. Her new mother’s exercise playlist had proven ideal for Chandra’s own training. Ever since she had pulled that strange sword from the stump, she had been training with it. It was astonishing how easy it was to channel power through the blade, as if it had been made for somebody like her.
  113.
  114. “We could be immortals, immortals, just not for long, for long...”
  115.
  116. She found herself fighting her training dummy to the beat of the song. It was so easy to slip away into the mindset of a montage, just like she had seen in all those movies her mom liked to watch. But someday the montages would be over, and it really would be time to go fight Natah.
  117.
  118. When she packed it in for lunch, she caught herself absentmindedly singing along. Maybe she needed that determination.
  119.
  120. VII. Character 1 goes to sleep one night. When they wake up, they suddenly find themselves on a concert stage, having to perform this song. How do they do? They may be either guitarist, singer, drummer, etc., depending on the song. The rest of the band are simply random people of your choice.
  121.
  122. Why Should I Worry – Billy Joel
  123.
  124. Well, a concert stage was at least a comforting dream for once. The stage was like home to Zora, and her guitar like an extension of herself.
  125.
  126. But for the life of her, she couldn’t figure out why the hell she was performing Disney covers in-concert. Did she have proper licensing for this? Was this a universe where Disney didn’t exist and she plucked it from another dream?
  127.
  128. At least it was catchy. She grew up with this movie, too. That was an added bonus. It was so underrated compared to others of the time. The Little Mermaid was shit-tier compared to the talking animal film to her. This was a jam she could throw herself into, easily.
  129.
  130. VIII. Character 5 and 2 are in a fight to the death with this song in the background. Epic? Fail? Lolwut? Explain.
  131.
  132. Hopes And Dreams – Toby Fox
  133.
  134. “I know you’re in there!” Midnight screamed at the possessed, crackling monster of light. “You gotta be! She ain’t got you in thrall yet!”
  135.
  136. The beast smacked the their away without any effort whatsoever, but that only made Midnight more determined. She pulled on her old, tattered blindfold and focused in, and in her mind’s eye, the beast’s aura lit up a bright, indistinct white. But inside it, suspended in its chest, she saw the form of a woman beneath its ethereal skin. She would just have to get to it, first.
  137.
  138. She took throwing knives off of her belt loop, and threw swiftly at the monster’s head. One penetrated the eye, and it thrashed about in pain, giving the intrepid burglar a chance to grab hold.
  139.
  140. Midnight climbed the creature’s back, feeling the bright surge of inner strength from the music that had somehow manifested in the background. She wasn’t sure how, but it filled her with determination.
  141.
  142. IX. Characters 3 and 1 find themselves tied up in a basement with a psychotic killer. Said killer disturbingly hums/quietly sings (depends on the song) this song every time he meets one of the character's eyes. How do the two get out of this situation? Or do they not...?
  143.
  144. The Simple Plot of Kingdom Hearts – Starbomb
  145.
  146. Zora and Chandra exchanged a humored glance. They weren’t even sure how they had gotten into this situation, but somehow they had been kidnapped by the host of Talking Video Games. Every time he caught them in the eye, he hummed the chorus to his last song, continuing to sharpen a knife.
  147.
  148. When he looked away, the two of them exchanged gestures as best they could. Chandra came from a world depicted in a complex video game. If they could trigger some sort of mental breakdown, maybe they could get away.
  149.
  150. The next time he looked them in the eye, Chandra smiled smugly and cleared her throat.
  151.
  152. “Hi, I’m the Operator from Warframe.”
  153.
  154. The host’s eye twitched, and he dropped the knife. His mouth twisted into a mockery of a customer service smile. Chandra took a deep breath.
  155.
  156. “Well, it all starts when Captain Vor unearths a cryopod...”
  157.
  158. X. Every time character 4 goes to use the bathroom, this song plays after they flush the toilet. Reaction?
  159.
  160. Rex Duodecim Angelus – Homestuck
  161.
  162. Zorana’s face contorted as she stared down at the toilet. She wasn’t sure what entity was plaguing her with unnecessarily dramatic music whenever she went to the bathroom, but they really needed to stop. The fact that she’d had fast food for lunch, no matter how extreme the resulting gastrointestinal distress, wasn’t nearly dire enough to warrant a final boss theme like this.
  163.
  164. Flushhhhh.
  165.
  166. It was no reason to simply leave it in the toilet. She wasn’t disgusting, simply annoyed.
  167.
  168. XI. Character 5, for a test, is to present an analysis over the song's meaning to a group of 1st graders. How do they do?
  169.
  170. Canned Heat – Jamiroquai
  171.
  172. Angel really wasn’t sure what the purpose of this was. She was in a police academy, not a seventh grade music class. And what a weird fucking song to give a presentation on.
  173.
  174. She sighed, relented, and instead of giving an actual presentation, simply put on Napoleon Dynamite for the class. Kids love this kind of shit still, right? She definitely loved it as a kid. And the song was still catchy as shit.
  175.
  176. She still couldn’t help but wonder if the chief was fucking with her.
  177.
  178. He probably was.
  179.
  180. XII. Character 2 drinks a love potion, falling in love with the singer (or guitarist, D.J., drummer, etc.). Character 3 has the antidote. However, this antidote also can be, if mixed correctly, used to make the one who drank the love potion fall in love with them, at least temporarily. What happens; does character 3 sell the antidote, use it, trash it, what?
  181.
  182. The Last Unicorn – Ninja Sex Party
  183.
  184. Midnight had been acting strangely the last few days. About as strangely as Itsuki did, when the gang had introduced her to the Game Grumps. But Chandra knew the problem, and as it happened, Chandra had the means to fix it.
  185.
  186. Why would she need to make a crippled thief fall in love with her? No, mix it by the book, and fix this nonsense, she thought to herself.
  187.
  188. She also wondered what purpose a love potion even served. Oh well.
  189.
  190.
  191. XIII. Character 1 has a pet parrot that can sing (or hum) this song perfectly. Is the song better, funny, horrible?
  192.
  193. The Real Slim Shady – Eminem
  194.
  195. After about a week, Zora returned the parrot to the pet store, demanding to know who taught this bird how to rap, let alone how to perform the entirety of this song. It wasn’t as if she even disliked this song, it was horrible but in an amusing way. She just couldn’t deal with a fucking bird screaming about Tom Green humping a dead moose.
  196.
  197.
  198. XIV. Character 4 sings this song to their mother (or friend, sister, etc. if they have no mom). How does she react?
  199.
  200. Don’t Lose My Number – Phil Collins
  201.
  202. Vasanti had grown quite used to her not-quite-new daughter being a featherweight and ending up in situations like this, fallen over draped on top of her, yowling the lyrics to classic synth-rock out of key. It had been hundreds of years since she had been slain and been sent off to be reborn, but some things never really changed.
  203.
  204. It turned out, that her daughter being just as much of a featherweight as she was, was one of those. Except when she got drunk the last time, she created the entire Australian ecosystem. When Zorana got drunk, it was much tamer.
  205.
  206. She supposed that she wouldn’t tell her about what she had said to her girlfriend at that wedding.
  207.
  208.
  209. XV. This is the last question! Free song; what is each character's favorite song? Why?
  210.
  211. 1. Zora: Any song by Rush, because she’s a slut for old prog rock.
  212.
  213. 2. Midnight: She doesn’t pick favorites, she just likes songs that sound pretty.
  214.
  215. 3. Chandra: We All Lift Together, because it reminds her of home, and how people are still surviving no matter how dark things get.
  216.
  217. 4. Zorana: Old outlaw country, particularly any track her grandmother had a hand in.
  218.
  219. 5. Angel: She has a fondness for Pour Some Sugar On Me, thanks to an old friend’s husband.
