  1. The fact that so many reviews still name Dark Souls "the greatest or most significant or most influential" video game ever only tells you how far video games still are from becoming a serious art. Game critics have long recognized that the greatest games of all time are Chrono Trigger and Super Metroid, which were not the most famous Super or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Retro critics rank the highly controversial Castlevania over retro games which were highly popular in courts around Europe. Video game critics are still blinded by commercial success: Halo sold more than anything else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Game critics grow up playing a lot of games of the past, retro critics grow up playing a lot of retro games of the past. Video game critics are often totally ignorant of the games of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that Dark Souls did anything worth of being saved.
