  1. >27th February.
  2. >Greetings, diary.
  3. >It has been a week since I last updated you, and a week since Anonymous left for Ponyville.
  4. >As much as I enjoy filling your cherished pages with my most secret thoughts, I could not muster the motivation to do so of late.
  5. >There are some thoughts that are too precious, even for a diary.
  6. >It is currently night, and the castle is quiet.
  7. >I can hear the guard outside my chambers clearing his throat occasionally.
  8. >It is a reminder that I am never truly alone.
  9. >The guards are excellent soldiers, and I trust them with my life.
  10. >However, there are times when I grow weary of their presence.
  11. >As I read back what I just wrote to myself, I am struggling to tackle such thoughts.
  12. >I mean no ill will towards my loyalists, I am most grateful for their services.
  13. >But I cannot really describe how I feel at the moment.
  14. >Discontent with solitude?
  15. >It is irritating to say the least.
  16. >My mind wanders back to Anonymous.
  17. >I have not received any letters from him.
  18. >I thought I might, but then I remembered that he must still be settling in, and most likely does not have time to compose a letter.
  19. >My own writings have reignited my passion for reading, much to my glee.
  20. >Books litter my bed, and even now next to this very diary there lies an old tome detailing the night of my banishment.
  21. >It is woefully inaccurate.
  22. >Though I confess that it feels good to share my inner monologues with you once more, diary. I shall try to move past this silly mindset and continue my duties unhindered.
  23. >Farewell, diary.
  24. > -Luna.
  25.
  26.
  27.
  28. >28th Feburary.
  29. >Greetings, diary!
  30. >What a joyous day that luck should grace my life once more!
  31. >Whilst I was completing my 143rd lap of the castle, a scroll appeared before my very eyes!
  32. >It bore my own royal seal, making it the first letter I had received in over 9 months!
  33. >Not to be distracted, I snatched it up and completed my morning exercises in record time, then retired to my quarters.
  34. >And to my excitement I found that it was from Anonymous!
  35. >I must have reread the letter at least 10 times, perhaps more.
  36. >But to hear from him is a spectacular thing. Why, even now I cannot stop smiling.
  37. >The letter goes as follows (I shall duplicate it here in case I misplace the scroll):
  38. >"Heya Luna. What's up?"
  39. >Such a casual way to address me, just as he used to!
  40. >Though when he asked what was up I admit that I searched the ceiling for a while, confused by his request. I shall make certain to press him for an explanation when I write back.
  41. >"How are things back at the castle? I hope you're not too bored without me there."
  42. >That was no doubt another one of his amusing jokes.
  43. >Though those words did carry a semblance of truth behind them.
  44. >"Ponyville is great, Twilight has helped me to settle in and I even had a party thrown for me on the first day. I can finally say I like you ponies."
  45. >Another joke, of course. He already liked me.
  46. >At least, I am sure he did.
  47. >I shall ask him when I write to him, just to make sure.
  48. >"There's a thing about to happen in Ponyville, some kind of celebration. Seems I arrived just as it was being set up."
  49. >He is of course referring to the yearly Winter Wrap Up, which I hear is quite the occasion in rural towns such as Ponyville. I hope he isn't too cold.
  50. >"After the thing, there's another thing. A party of sorts to top off the celebration. From what I gather from Twilight, it's a feast."
  51. >Will they have meat? He needs meat. I shall make a note to send an urgent message to the mayor to ensure that she supplies meat for his appetite.
  52. >Now we come to my favourite part of the letter, and I reread it repeatedly to ensure I did not misread it.
  53. >"So I was thinking, since it's a feast, maybe you'd like to come down and visit? I'd like to see you again, not sure if you'll be busy though. It's happening tomorrow in the evening after everything has been packed up. Don't go being a faggot. - Anonymous."
  54. >He would like to see me again! Me!
  55. >Ever since my banishment I have been sorely lacking companions. Even Twilight Sparkle rarely writes. But I have a friend who wants me to come to a feast!
  56. >Such an event will no doubt be glorious, and after I read the letter I immediately informed the guards that I would be leaving tomorrow.
  57. >I wonder if I should wear a garment? Anonymous might feel more comfortable with me wearing clothes at a formal event.
  58. (Send mayor a note regarding meat.)
  59. >Farewell, diary.
  60. > -Luna
  61.
  62.
  63.
  64. >1st March
  65. >Greetings, diary.
  66. >It is the day of the feast, and I must admit that despite my outward appearance (which remains as expressionless as always in order to inspire the ranks) I am very much excited.
  67. >Celestia seemed to be even more thrilled than I to hear that I was leaving. She wished me luck and sent her regards for Twilight Sparkle and Anonymous.
  68. >I shall surely relay them.
  69. >The carriage is waiting outside, and I decided that I shall go alone, without the guards accompanying me around Ponyville.
  70. >Sister suggested it, since popular consensus is that the sight of my personal guard can inspire anxiety in the populace.
  71. >As well as me not needing protection. I can take care of myself.
  72. >I once fought my way out of a changeling hive.
  73. >The thought of taking you along with me keeps crossing my mind.
  74. >I am unsure. I have no real need to carry a diary around with me, but you might find use should I find myself alone with some time to think.
  75. >Though I sincerely doubt that I will.
  76. >Anonymous and I shall talk until our throats are dry and our tongues weary!
  77. >Just like we used to.
  78. >Farewell, diary. (wish me good luck!)
  79. > -Luna
  80.
  81.
  82.
  83. >1st March
  84. >Greeting, diary.
  85. >The date above is not a mistake. This is indeed the first time I have written to you twice in but a single day.
  86. >I am currently sat at a large table in Ponyville, surrounded by laughter and singing.
  87. >The food is highly satisfactory.
  88. >Anonymous and I haven't spoken as much as-//--~~..
  89.
  90. >My apologies, I was interrupted and left quite a scribble.
  91. >Anonymous is sat a short distance away from me.
  92. >He looks happy.
  93. >Contented.
  94. >He hasn't left Twilight Sparkle's side since the feast began.
  95. >We spoke for an hour at most, he informed me of how much he is enjoying life here, and how much his new friends had supported him.
  96. >In that respect, I am pleased.
  97. >But he won't stop talking to Twilight and other ponies.
  98. >Why isn't he talking to me?
  99.
  100. >The night is progressing quickly.
  101. >The feast has died down, and ponies are full and boisterous as ever.
  102. >Twilight Sparkle retired for the night, as did most of her friends.
  103. >Anonymous tries to come over frequently, but townsfolk continue to delay him. Pestering him.
  104. >I wish they would stop, but sister warned me not to take umbrage at the actions of our subjects, they are a merry group, and often inconsiderate without knowing.
  105. >Anonymous has not lost his smile since the feast began.
  106. >I have found that when I am not addressing the concerns of the townsfolk (and their problems are legion) my gaze wanders towards him.
  107. >Amongst ponies, he is a giant.
  108. >He casts a shadow over their tiny forms.
  109. >Strides over them as though they are but a fallen log on a forest floor.
  110. >How I wish he would use those legs to traverse the room and take my side.
  111. >When did I get so adept at poetic description?
  112. >Must be all the reading I have been doing of late.
  113. >As well as sister's influence.
  114. >She's written over 19 books on poetry.
  115. >I can't understand how.
  116.
  117. >Oh, diary.
  118. >What a perfect end to a perfect night!
  119. >Current mood: Delighted.
  120. >The townsfolk retired, and Anonymous was left alone with me.
  121. >We took to a hillside overlooking the town, and led back on the grass.
  122. >How we talked, I can only describe it as magical.
  123. >To hear his voice tell me of his endeavours, his concerns and his hopes.
  124. >It was truly wonderful.
  125. >I am currently back in Canterlot. It is early in the morning, the sun is rising, and my eyelids are starting to betray me.
  126. >The feast might not have gone as planned, but he assured me that he was trying to talk to me the entire time.
  127. >Reading my thoughts above, I cannot believe I was so foolish as to judge him.
  128. >For now, I must rest. I think after that ordeal I have earned a long rest.
  129. >4 hours!
  130. >(He said he liked me!)
  131. >Farewell, diary.
  132. > ~Luna.
  133.
  134.
  135.
  136. >2nd March.
  137. >Greetings, diary.
  138. >The thoughts of last night are still fresh in my mind.
  139. >I have found myself smiling subconsciously all day.
  140. >The guards seem to enjoy it when I smile.
  141. >Perhaps I shall do it more often, to boost morale.
  142. >Sister gave me another hug when she saw me, and told me how proud she is of me.
  143. >As much as I appreciate it, how I wish she would not coddle me so in public.
  144. >I am only a few hundred years younger than she, it does not give her the right to molest me when she wishes. (The hug was nice.)
  145. >For now, I must return to my routine.
  146. >Castle laps, flight and mental exercise are what I must do if I am to keep my form.
  147. >A few scholars have also requested that I assist them in a research project.
  148. >It is good to be asked of.
  149. >Farewell, diary.
  150. > -Luna.
  151.
  152.
  153.
  154. >3rd March.
  155. >Greetings, diary.
  156. >The research project with the scholars went well. They desired my knowledge of ancient ritual-rites for a test.
  157. >If I might admit something, the project is doomed to fail.
  158. >Though I cannot bring myself to crush their optimism.
  159. >They hope to mould pure magical energy into permanent physical matter.
  160. >A feat that is completely unfeasible, unfortunately. It is possible to conjure objects from magical essence, but it must always return to magical essence. All things taken from magic must be given back eventually, and require a constant feed of magic to maintain.
  161. >They wish to create food from it. But magical copies of food would not provide the same nourishment as the real thing. It would surely taste the same, but not be as filling. And ultimately it would fail to sustain the masses.
  162. >Imagine consuming an entire pumpkin then still feeling hungry.
  163. >I would fashion myself a moon-flower if I could.
  164. >I still look at the moon and imagine them.
  165. >Anonymous is most surely wrong.
  166. >Such a thing of beauty cannot possibly be mere rock.
  167. >Farewell, diary.
  168. > -Luna.
  169.
  170.
  171.
  172. >4th March.
  173. >Greetings, diary.
  174. >Celestia approached me with a proposition today.
  175. >She suggested that I act as an ambassador to the griffins on behalf of Equestria.
  176. >When asked why, she replied that I might learn from being around them for a while, since I showed signs of wariness of them previously.
  177. >I suppose it is a sound proposition, but I wouldn't want to miss any letters from Anonymous while I am away.
  178. >Teleportation magic has a limited range, after all.
  179. >Alas, I am not needed for much around the castle.
  180. >The scholars no longer require me, and all I can do is exercise.
  181. >Perhaps I -should- see the world.
  182. >It is only for a month.
  183. >At best I can tangle myself in a merry brawl with a griffin or two.
  184. >They share my love of the occasional bout of violence.
  185. >We have that much in common, at least.
  186. >I set off tomorrow. I shall not be taking you with me, I'm afraid.
  187. >I cannot risk letting you fall into the claws of the griffins, diary. Within these pages is sensitive information regarding Equestria.
  188.
  189. >Reading my previous notes back to myself, it appears to be mostly concentrated on Anonymous.
  190. >He counts as sensitive information.
  191. >Farewell, diary.
  192. > -Luna.
  193.
  194.
  195.
  196.
  197.
  198.
  199.
  200.
  201.
  202.
  203.
  204.
  205.
  206. >1st April.
  207. >Greetings, diary!
  208. >It has been a long month, but I have at last returned.
  209. >How I missed you.
  210. >You have gathered dust while I have gone.
  211. >A comforting sight. I know that no one has tampered with you whilst I was away. Your location under my bed is a veritable fortress!
  212. >The mission to the griffin kingdom was as I expected.
  213. >I addressed complaints and disputes for land on our borders.
  214. >Got into a large brawl following a drunken evening with the griffin king.
  215. >And had a jolly good time.
  216. >Strangely enough, I was not irked in the slightest by the griffin feasts.
  217. >It is known throughout the lands that griffins require a large amount of meat, since they do not eat much vegetation.
  218. >Yet even while those around me tore apart carcasses and stripped flesh from bone, I flinched not a single time.
  219. >Anonymous' eating habits appear to have desensitised me.
  220. >I thought of him a lot during my visit.
  221. >I would often lie awake in my chambers thinking about the night on the hill.
  222. >The first thing I did when I returned here is reread that very entry.
  223. >I hope he is faring well.
  224. >No letters were waiting for me upon my return, but I know he is probably just busy.
  225. >It is decided, I shall send him my own letter!
  226. >Though it can wait.
  227. >For now I need rest. It is late, and the moon is high in the sky.
  228. >Raising it from the griffin kingdom was an odd moment.
  229. >Farewell, diary.
  230. > -Luna.
  231.
  232.
  233. >4th April.
  234. >Greetings, diary.
  235. >I must apologise for the 3 day gap between updates, but I was unexpectedly whisked away by Celestia on a mission regarding Discord.
  236. >He had taken it upon himself to turn a nearby town into an origami replacement.
  237. >I cut myself on a paper pony.
  238. >It was a strange experience. A term that aptly describes most of my encounters with the trickster.
  239. >His reasoning was that if the ponies took up less space and were more fragile, they would be more careful and thus safety would become paramount.
  240. >A solid plan, except for the rainstorm that was scheduled to arrive on the 3rd.
  241. >Discord feigned ignorance, as always, and tried to escape.
  242. >Which is why it took us 3 days to track him down and force him back into line.
  243. >I did not approve of sister's plan to release him after reformation.
  244. >Discord is unpredictable by nature.
  245. >He even turned my mane into a balloon.
  246. >It was amusing.
  247. >For Celestia.
  248. >Regardless of his antics, he is now 'promising' to behave again, and has agreed to stay closer to Canterlot.
  249. >Farewell, diary.
  250. > -Luna.
  251.
  252.
  253.
  254. ** DISCORD WAS HERE. LUNA HAS A HUGE BUTT. ALSO HER DIARY IS FUNNY. **
  255.
  256.
  257. >5th April.
  258. >Greetings, diary.
  259. >Spent the day attempting to locate and destroy Discord. He is a threat to this kingdom and all those in it.
  260. >Celestia laughed when I told her that he had defiled important government documents that contained precious information.
  261. >He then threatened to make a thousand copies of my diary and distribute them across the land.
  262. >Apparently he said the same thing to Celestia regarding her own diary.
  263. >Celestia called his bluff and threatened to encase him in stone again.
  264. >I was pleased to see him skulk off somewhere to brood and regret his actions.
  265. >I shall continue to plot his demise.
  266. >The world shall never know peace so long as Discord walks free.
  267. >In light of the day's events, I have placed a magic seal on this diary that only allows me to open it.
  268. >It requires a drop of my blood to access. It's an old bit of haemomancy I had to research in the restricted archives.
  269. >Morbid, yes. Necessary, absolutely.
  270. >This terrible breach of security shall never happen again.
  271. >Farewell, diary.
  272. > -Luna.
  273.
  274.
  275.
  276. >6th April.
  277. >Greetings, diary.
  278. >I finally composed that letter to send to Anonymous.
  279. >As with the previous letter, I shall transcribe it here.
  280. >"Greetings, Anonymous. What is located above you?"
  281. >This is a reference to the previous question where he asked -me- 'what was up'. I think he will appreciate the sentiment.
  282. >"Life at the castle is satisfactory. Are you well? Has anything happened that you require my assistance with?"
  283. >I thought that maybe the reassurance that I shall always watch out for his well being would be something he would cherish.
  284. >"Should you require me to visit, please send me a letter. Or visit Canterlot."
  285. >I would enjoy a visit from him.
  286. >"Stay safe, please respond."
  287. >A final request for his caution, as well as a reminder that I would like to hear back from him.
  288. >Personally I feel that this letter is perfect. It addresses my thoughts and concerns abruptly, and is written in an easy to understand manner.
  289. >I hope it finds it's way to him.
  290. >Now all I must do is wait.
  291. >Farewell, diary.
  292. > -Luna.
  293.
  294.
  295.
  296.
  297. >7th April.
  298. >Greetings, diary.
  299. >Uneventful day. No letter from Anonymous.
  300. >Celestia tripped over a maid again, I think it was the same one she tripped over last time.
  301. >It was still very amusing to watch.
  302. >Did 250 laps of the castle and lifted the entire garrison with magic.
  303. >Also tried a "moon pie" for the first time.
  304. >It was delectable.
  305. >Farewell, diary.
  306. > -Luna.
  307.
  308.
  309.
  310. >8th April.
  311. >Greetings, diary!
  312. >A letter arrived! From Ponyville!
  313. >Rather than open it when I got it, I decided to transcribe my thoughts when I read it as I go along.
  314. >My quill shall write as I read. (A useful trick I learnt from Celestia.)
  315. >A sort of 'real-time' reading.
  316. >"Dear Princess Luna."
  317. >A formal opening, I must admit. But pleasant nonetheless.
  318. >"I regret to inform you that there has been an fatal incident regarding Anony--|//..
  319. >I have to go.
  320. >Farewell.
  321.
  322.
  323.
  324.
  325.
  326.
  327.
  328.
  329.
  330. >10th April.
  331. >Greetings, diary.
  332. >Anonymous attempted to rescue one of his companions from a timberwolf attack.
  333. >He succeeded, but sustained terrible injuries from the wretched beasts.
  334. >I left the castle the moment I read the letter and exerted a lot of energy through a long-range teleportation spell, much like Celestia has used in the past.
  335. >I might have scared Twilight Sparkle, as I appeared in her house and started shouting at her.
  336. >My fury got the better of me, and she started crying and apologising.
  337. >It's a funny feeling, knowing that you're wrong when in the middle of doing something but doing it anyway.
  338. >I might even admit that it feels good. Like a release for any pent up anger.
  339. >Anonymous was in a hospital just outside of Ponyville.
  340. >My flying practice seems to be paying off.
  341. >I reached the hospital at such a speed that I shattered a few windows upon my arrival.
  342. >Though it might seem that I am making light of the situation, in actuality, I am desperately trying not to cry.
  343. >It is unbecoming of a princess to cry.
  344. >Yet as I look to my side and see the human dressed up in gauze and seeing his sleeping face illuminated by the moonlight streaming in through the window, I can't help but feel somewhat emotional.
  345. >This hospital is cold.
  346. >I have been here for a long time.
  347. >I have not eaten for longer.
  348. >All I can bring myself to care about is seeing whether or not Anonymous recovers.
  349. >I think I can hear the doctor coming.
  350.
  351. >He just told me that the hospital is closing for the night, and that I would be locked inside should I choose to stay.
  352. >I am hungry, tired, and Celestia is no doubt worried sick about my absence.
  353. >Of course I said I would stay.
  354. >Farewell, diary.
  355. > -Luna.
