  14. Cows are shown to be perfectly happy being livestock and also really don't seem very intelligent according to the show. Also, well, in the AU mine is based off of every sapient cow is basically spending most of what little mana they have to cast an Awaken Animal spell on themselves to remain sapient.
  15. A — Today at 1:43 PM
  16. so basically someone else ascends their mind enough that they can instinctively cast this spell upon themselves, but their mana reserves are so low that's all they can afford every day?
  17. B — Today at 2:20 PM
  18. I assume everyone else is ascended far enough that they're spell isn't exactly necessary. Where's the cows are still relying on it for even basic sapience
  19. Teraunce — Today at 3:26 PM
  20. exactly.

  22. All the other species developed Sapience naturally, or were practically almost sapient in the case of the griffons, that when the pony-made worldwide magical disaster happened that blasted civilization back into the fuedal industrial age and uplifted griffons and cows into true Sapience...well, the cows were far enough from it that ponies ate beef and not all the cows were uplifted and sapience is a recessive trait in cows. Griffons on the other hand just needed a very tiny push and it stuck.

  24. I hope that makes sense. To clarify more: Originally there were just Centaurs, Goats, Dragons, and Ponies. Grogar made every single other goat non-sapient and Tirek pretty much wiped out the Centaurs. The Wish at the end of the second age if it suceeded turned the Flutterponies into Breezies and some Eastern ponies into Kirin. Discord at the end of time of the Third age that never was turned some of the breezies into Parasprites using his new creation, Poison Joke. The concept of Strife, a Draconequiis, was so impressed at their ability to defeat the Parasprites he turned their home into a pocket dimension which saved the survivors from being wiped. Meanwhile the Kirin gave Discord ideas he wasn't able to capitalize upon then.
  25. In the Destruction timeline it uplifted the Griffons and supposedly extinct white wolves, who were almost sapient already so no magic was required for them to stay sapient, and some of the cows, who most definitely weren't close but it basically made being sapient what their innate magic was supporting and said magic is only passed down to children of two sapient cows. It also mutated some ponies into zebra, donkeys, Yeti, and deer. It also mutated some wolves into Diamond Dogs.
  26. Then, quite a ways down the way, after the Windigos, Discord awoke into his true power and created the Kirin again by force merging some Eastern Ponies and Dragons. He also recreated Poison Joke and force exposed some breezies to it, recreating parasprites. Thirdly he managed to convince the queen of the Flutterponies to cast a spell in order to "save" her race, as he was secretly making their homeland unliveable, turning them into the Changelings. Fourthly, he on a whim turned most of the seapony homeland into a desert and Luna and Celestia barely managed to turn the dying seaponies into buffalo. The buffalo then suffered a schism with the most stubborn of them heading north and evolving into the Yaks with some help from poison joke and spells.
