BACKSTORY:

The ronin named Musasabi was born of dishonor, though quite literally in his case. His father was a young, naive bushi of the Lion clan who became entranced with his mother, a wandering heimin entertainer named Mizuki. Nearly a year after their initial meeting, she returned to Lion lands with an infant boy. Telling the young bushi that the child was their son, Kaito. The young bushi acknowledged him as his child despite his family's protestations, cementing the child's status as ronin. The bushi's family then moved him as rapidly as they could, far from his family's home and the site of his shame, and so that Mizuki could never find him again.

With the avenue of joining the clan of his father lost, Kaito and his mother resumed their travelling, his mother playing her shamisen in order to feed the both of them. Kaito, meanwhile, practiced with a castoff daisho as soon as he was old enough to swing the blade without falling over, focusing on learning to protect himself and his mother. He also began to learn the arts of persuasion, by learning to speak convincingly, avoid giving offense, and even offering entertainment to improve relations. Of the options, he began to prefer the subtler arts to the way of the warrior, though kept up with his sword practice anyway. He learned that in order to keep what you love safe, sometimes you have to be stronger than anything that would try to harm them.

When Kaito came of age, his mother convinced him to leave and find his fortune in the world, gifting him her shamisen as a parting gift. Kaito left reluctantly, but did indeed depart to wander from place to place, like his mother had long ago. He took on the name Musasabi, a childhood nickname his mother had given him, and embraced his life as a ronin. It was during his wandering that the events leading up to this famine and state of the Empire occurred, forcing him to reevaluate his lifestyle as a simple wanderer. Deciding that someone had to stand up to protect the simple heimin, who have been struck hardest by these events, he set a path to Kyuden Kitsune.

Advantages: Musasabi possesses a very peculiar calm that makes it difficult for others to bewilder him. He seems to possess an almost supernatural luck. He is more virtuous and honorable than the average ronin.

Disadvantages: Musasabi has strong convictions and ideals as to what a "true" samurai is supposed to be. He inherited his father's passion and weakness for physical pleasures. He is a ronin. One of his father's kin is hunting him, intent on removing this blight on his cousin's reputation.
