- The sad truth is that the medical system, as it operates today, uses a financial model at its most fundamental level. Most pharmaceutical companies, or at least the ones that want to succeed, are publicly traded internationally. This means they are legally bound to consistently provide a profit return to their shareholders. This is a dog-eat-dog world, so the companies that figure out how to make more money are the ones that are the most noticeable and have the most success.
- Over the past 100 years, "big pharma" as an industry has blown out to incomprehensible size. They say Apple is the world's most valuable company; I believe that the private pharmaceutical "pools" that the biggest players have access to and are a part of would truly dwarf Apple to the size of a grasshopper if they were public information.
- While I admittedly don't have enough of the details to provide a proper discourse on how everything got to where it is today, I do know this much: when a person is unwell, they themselves psychologically become incredibly vulnerable; at the same time, any normal human being, on sight of a person in distress, will instinctively want to go and help them. I believe that the medical establishment has "hacked" both of these responses to present itself as a perfect (white, clinical, spotless) knight in shining (reliable, strong, dependable) armour, always the first to come on the scene, always with the right answers. If anything shatters this visage it is immediately silenced.
- I was probably the hundredth caller to ring, try to place an order, and go "WHAT?!". We'd known it was a possibility for a long time, but it still came as a shock: the company that has made the biggest difference to my brain was shut down in February. Their website is no longer online. They... they were forced to pour their remaining stock into the gutter (it was a bit difficult to type that).
- Maxam Neutraceuticals made a variety of different products for many different health conditions. People with "irreversible" diseases and conditions were routinely brought back into check (and in some cases their health issues were largely eliminated) by this company's very inexpensive products. For no other reason than that their "alternative" success tarnished the white-night "sheen" of the pharmaceutical industry, the founder has been subjected to endless harassment and abuse by various federal authorities, charges were drummed up against him, the company's offices and laboratories were completely trashed and had to be rebuilt from scratch multiple times, and life was made as difficult as possible for these people.
- After they were shut down, a couple of the workers' nervous systems collapsed and they died as a result, so the staff have had a lot of loss to deal with.
- This is the best example I've got of the all-out *war* that is cutting-edge, successful, inexpensive, easily findable alternative medicine. You can easily pick up the random over-the-counter alternative product here in Australia, but in most cases they have components in them that contraindicate the intended purpose of the product or exacerbate other health issues likely to occur in the demographic a given formulation would target. The intended result is that most people whose health is not 100%, and who would stand to benefit the most from taking these products, will in fact be unable to reap any benefit from the products in question, and their confidence in alternative therapy's relevance and validity will be impacted. And the companies in question will be allowed to go on operating.
