Ever since she can remember things, Serefina sees her maids as her family. Her so called ‘biological mother’ never takes care of her ever since the day she was born. Even her name, Serefina, was given by one of her oldest maid. It was because of her red hair which looks like burning flame and the fact that on the day she was born; the weather feels like hotter than usual. She also hopes that Serefina will be like the angel written on the old tales which bore the same name and has six wings.

Her old maid, who already acts like her own mother often, teaches her about a lot of things. One of it was tales and the love about music. She always heard lullaby sung by her maid and ended up loving it. Often, that lullaby is the only one which can keep dreaming about family, about love, and about better life out there. How she ended up sleeping while crying yearning of warmth from her own family.

People might say, being a daughter of a pasha must bring her happiness due to all the wealth she can have. But in reality, all she can feel is emptiness every day. Big house with party held by her mother and other riches almost every day, mocking from everyone near her mother, harsh teaching as the ‘daughter of a pasha’, and all the hard daily routines often makes her ended up running from her house just to stay outside to play with the commoner. But at the end of the day, she ended up watching enviously to the kids outside who were called back by their family to come back to their houses. Often, the old maid is the one who fetch her back home, and sometimes, she even ended up crying on her way home. Questioning why she can’t be like the others.

Grown up as a small lady, she starting to realize about her surroundings. She sees not all the people can eat meal everyday like she does. Not everyone has places to sleep like she does, which ended up making her often giving her food, her stuffs, and so on. Many times, she even ended up not eating her meals just to give it to the poor.

Sometimes, during her hungry times, she walked to the kitchen where the maid usually gather and search for recipe books there. She once heard that reading recipe book might make her forget of her hunger. While searching for easy food which hope can be made for a lot of person, and to help her forget her hunger, she accidentally open 1 book which change her life in a way. She didn’t read the cover, but she remembers it was on the shelf of recipe books. She found a lot of thing written there, food, monsters, travelling tales, everything.

And that’s how Serefina found the book called [Volo’s Guide], although she didn’t realize that’s the real title of the book.
