Azar is a dead human barbarian known for his affinity with rats and ratkin.

He died 100 years ago in legendary battle with a demon.

He is a hero to ratkin as well as humans.

His remains are in the dungeon-crypt.

Urous is a giant dire rat and a Fabulous Animal figurine (DF8, p. 38).

Urous was given to Azar by the church of the night.

The figurine was buried with Azar.

Rats started to infest the crypt and town (Brecconary).

The rats have glowing green eyes.

Another hero was buried with a wooden box containing a glowing-green orb.

The glowing green orb is a Voice in the Darkness (GURPS: Creatures of the Night,

Vol. 4, p. 12).

The VitD is a "natural enemy" of the night church, which focuses more on the good

aspects of night.

The church of night decided a powerful magical rat artifact should not be in a

crypt infested with evil rats and a VitD.

Another cleric of the god of night went to the crypt to retrieve the figurine.

He "inadvertently" activated the figurine.

At that time, the evil rats ambushed.

They captured Urous and implanted the Voice in the Darkness' orb in its still -

living body.

Urous cannot revert to figurine form now that he is undead/VitD.

Gaffer was dispatched to kill Urous and retrieve the figurine.
