background:
Emi grew up in a small town with her mother and sister. Her father died when she was 7 years old due to an undetected heart defect while her mother was still pregnant with Minah. Due to the death of her father, her mother began drowning herself in alcohol and prematurely gave birth to Minah (7 months). Luckily, Minah didn’t have any problems as an infant, though in school her academics were a little bit of a struggle. Growing up was rough due to little money and an abusive alcoholic mother. At fifteen she snuck and got her a job as a waitress to help with the financial situation and support her sister. This is where she found her love for singing. At seventeen, she switched jobs to a boys and girls mentor and found her love for acting and rapping, even though she did not like rap to start with. When she was 18, she gained custody of her sister and they moved to a small apartment away from their mother. She first thought about becoming a counselor for troubled children and teens, until one of the girls she mentored said that she was very inspirational and should pursue something in music since her motto was “music is nature’s medicine” and she used it as a tool to help others. When she graduate high school, she and her sister moved with her best friend, Eli, to Los Angeles to pursue her dream in entertainment. During the final semester of their junior year, Eli had to leave L.A. to Busan, South Korea to help her grandmother take care of her grandfather. As much as it bothered Emi to see her best childhood friend struggle, she could not go with her due to her sister. It was the first time she felt burdened by her sister and it made her feel ashamed. However, in her final semester of university, Eli called with the news that her grandfather passed away. Since Minah was about to graduate high school, they boarded the plane to Busan and was able to take their finals online. They flew back for graduation, but decided to move to Busan to help Eli take care of her grandmother. Emi helped Minah get into university to study nursing. Emi thought her dream of being an entertainer was finished until Eli’s grandmother saw her dance and she pushed her to audition. Though she had been accepted at SM, she did not feel that company was for her and left.

Some say Emmaline is a born leader. She is very head-strong and stubborn, and doesn’t like taking no as an answer. She is also very empathetic and cares very deeply for those around her. Her friends jokingly call her mom, since she is the mother figure of her friends. However, Emi is a bit of a contradiction. When she meets new people, she is a bit quiet and shy, but to her friends, she is out-going and very easy to laugh. She is a bit of a prankster and troll, but she is always careful to not let it go too far. While she is empathetic to others, she does not express her darker emotions (sadness and anger) well; she bottles them up inside her. While this doesn’t seem to bother her since she is always smiling, Emi can be a ticking time-bomb, though she knows her limits. She does not anger easily, but when her anger does show, it is best to steer clear until she can calm down. She doesn’t like to cry in front of others, so when someone sees her crying, she tries to pull it off that she’s fine and not to worry. She’s very independent and does not like to have to get help from others. She has trust issues and doesn’t open up very easily; however, if she considers you a friend, even if she doesn’t open up to you, she will always have your back. One way or another. She can hold grudges like no tomorrow, but only if you wrong her (like breaking her trust), but that will not stop her from helping someone in need. She is very honest and does not like lies, in fact she is a horrid liar. She is a bit blunt, but she tries to make it come out the nicest way so that she doesn’t break anyone’s trust or humiliate them later down the road. (For example, if someone cooks something and it tastes bad, she will continue to eat it, but she will tell them that they need to work on it and she is willing to help) She is very smart. Her teachers used to say her brain was like a sponge, no matter what it was, information was sucked up and stayed. She graduated at the top of her class in both high school and university. However, she is a bit of an airhead and can come off clueless. She gets lost very easily if given directions to a place, and you will get lost if she gives directions. She also loses things easily, which frustrates her, but she gets excited once she finds it. She is also very competitive and sporty, and HATES losing; sometimes if she loses she can be seen as a sore loser, but that will be explained in a bit. While it seems she oozes with self-confidence, she has almost no self-esteem and is a bit of a control freak. This comes back from the abuse during her childhood years. She had suffered/still kind of suffers from depression, though she keeps it hidden very well and had a time with eating disorders and self-mutilation. In times of losing, she is sometimes thrown back to her childhood years where her mother would call her stupid and worthless. These doubts put her in a bit of a bad mood. During this time, it is best to keep an eye on her but also let her be since she starts to fight herself.
She does have a habit of giving a motivational speech to herself each morning to boost herself (“Today is going to be a great day. You have great friends. You are great. You are beautiful. Fighting”). She also has a habit of chewing on her thumb or lip when she’s thinking or bored. She also has a habit of pushing herself to much, which sometimes gets her sick/in trouble.
