  1. Let's see. where we last left off, the crew had got a bunch of bandits tied up on horseback to lead back to Ol' Sam, and had rescued their hostage Runs-With-Coyotes, who asked to be brought back to the native american Apache tribe.
  2. Nicholas Hill: ((Klah, what's your skype name?))
  3. Robert S.: ((tavion1121 , Rob))
  4. Nicholas Hill: You'd be correct.
  5. We were going to drop the bandits off first and then head up to the Apache tribe, I believe.
  6. Or just send Armin and Archer to drop off the bandits.
  7. While we go escort Coyotes.
  8. Nobody Important (GM): Alright then. You guys are escorting Runs With Coyotes to her home tribe?
  9. BORIS: Yeah
  10. Nicholas Hill: Yep.
  11. Llamas: Aye.
  12. Nobody Important (GM): The trip is going to be about half a days journey to the east, about seven miles out of Wildrock.
  13. Runs With Coyotes will be leading you, but you need to make camp somewhere in between here and there because honestly you've been up all day and night.
  14. So, will you make camp in the bandit camp or press on and make camp elsewhere?
  15. Armand and Archer have taken the horses with the bandits, leaving you with three horses and Boris to ride.
  16. BORIS: Eh, there's already a camp here.
  17. Nicholas Hill: Camping down here seems smarter.
  18. Already tents.
  19. Llamas: Are you sure the scorched remains of the bandit leader won't hurt morale?
  20. Nicholas Hill: There aren't any remains, IIRC
  21. Nobody Important (GM): Nah, there's nothing let.
  22. left*
  23. Llamas: Fine then.
  24. Nobody Important (GM): You kind of exploded him. His gun survived, though.
  25. So, you camp down for the night while archer and Armand push home in their long, thankless trek.
  26. Oh well. If there's actually any reward money, it's all theirs.
  27. Runs-With-Coyotes makes a great show of ordering Nicholas around and making him do menial labor for her, clearly milking the arrangement for all it's worth. Soon there's a stew going, and the fire is blazing anew.
  28. Anything you guys want to do before you bed down?
  29. Nicholas Hill: Fireside chat?
  30. Llamas: A little dinner?
  31. Nobody Important (GM): The stew appears to be beef and cactus. Not really appetizing, but better than not eating. What do you want to talk about to who, Nick?
  32. Nicholas Hill: I was more thinking having us all sit around in a circle and chat.
  33. BORIS: What kind of cactus? This might be important.
  34. Nobody Important (GM): Um. I don't know. Saguro?
  35. BORIS: Eh, I'll just assume it's the sort that wreaks unholy havoc on the human digestive system.
  36. Llamas: its fruits should be edible. i think.
  37. Nobody Important (GM): Well, Nick, you are all in a circle right now, each poking at your stew while trying to make it look like you are actually eating.
  38. Is there anything particular you want to talk about, or are you going to let Runs With lead?
  39. Llamas: "Remember to praise the mother earth for its bounties".
  40. BORIS: "AND BORIS FOR HIS SNOUT."
  41. Llamas: "Of course, brother. Thank you again".
  42. Nicholas Hill: "We're in a desert with absolutely nothing for miles on end. I'm just gonna go ahead and praise Boris's snout instead."
  43. Nobody Important (GM): "Yes. Many thanks, Boris." Runs-With-Coyotes seems appreciative but still a bit sad at the poor show of a feast.
  44. Llamas: "Just because they're hidden doesn't mean they aren't there. She is always generous with the child who knows how to ask."
  45. "Also, it's that or rock stew."
  46. Nobody Important (GM): Runs-With-Coyotes snickers. "Rock stew is occasionally palatable. I would still not recommend it."
  47. BORIS: "WAS THERE NOT SOME HUMAN STORY ABOUT ROCK STEW WHERE SOLDIERS TRICK VILLAGERS OUT OF FOOD?"
  48. Nicholas Hill: "It's a made-up story, not a real one." Nick raises an eyebrow at Coyotes. "You've eaten rocks? Were they any good? Always wanted to try one myself."
  49. BORIS: "OH BOY, HERE HE GOES AGAIN."
  50. Nobody Important (GM): She makes a 'tztch' sound with her mouth. "Makes your teeth hurt for days. Doesn't fill stomach. Zero out of ten."
  51. Llamas: (elbow nudge to Boris)
  52. Nicholas Hill: "It can't be any worse than my mother's cooking. Made me sick for months the last time I tried it. After all that, I'm willing to eat nearly anything."
  53. Nick looks down at the measly soup in his hand. "Probably including rocks, honestly."
  54. Nobody Important (GM): "Who was your mother? I-I mean, who IS your mother, yes?
  55. ... Where are you from, again?"
  56. Nicholas Hill: "Is is fine. She's a housewife back in Jamestown, Virginia, otherwise known as the very most boring job in the very most boring place on Earth."
  57. Nick looks bored just mentioning the place.
  58. Nobody Important (GM): She stares pointedly at Nick.
  59. "Ah, from the east country, yes? Is this part of the... dark-lands? We can't go around there anymore. Can the white man endure the long shadow?"
  60. BORIS: "ARE THEY ALL AS NUTTY AS YOU IN VIRGINIA?"
  61. "MMM, NUTS. COULD REALLY GO FOR SOME RIGHT NOW."
  62. Nicholas Hill: Nick looks quizzically back. "What? No, not part of the shadowlands. Further east even, Virginia. I don't know, maybe you haven't heard of it. I wouldn't be suprised, I don't think we've ever done anything of importance."
  63. Nobody Important (GM): She looks shocked, and drops her fork into her soup, where it begins to slowly bubble away as it corrodes. "There is an east of the shadow...lands?" She looks absolutely enthralled. "Tell me more."
  64. Nicholas Hill: Nick seems to perk up that someone takes an interest in his words. "Well, Virginia's a place spanning miles from a far cold north to a temperate, almost tropical south. We've got every kind of climate and person in there, and I've always wanted to explore it a little more myself, to be honest. I was born in the capital city, Jamestown, where we've got what feels like a million people. None of them are fun, though. I'd trade every single one for one of the people I've met in the last year, yeah?" Nick smiles and looks around the fireplace.
  65. Nobody Important (GM): Runs-With-Coyotes leans back a bit, clearly lost in thought. "I think... I would like to visit this 'james-town', if it's not like anything around here. There are but three kinds of people here in the badlands. The bad and in charge, the bad and want to be in charge, and the good but powerless. It cannot be the same everywhere, and I think... If I could get just a little of that goodness and bring it back here..."
  66. She looks wistful. "I could do my family and the spirits proud."
  67. Nicholas Hill: "So what category do we fit into, then?"
  68. "The bad, or the good and powerless?"
  69. Llamas: "The fourth option of course".
  70. Nobody Important (GM): A hard look. "I am not sure about you, but the rest of your lots seem to be okay people. I think one day you could be something great, if you have a big enough mind and heart to see it."
  71. BORIS: "NEVER THINK IT IS YOUR FAULT. I HAVE SEEN THE BIRTH OF ALL THIS EVIL, IN THE SHADOW OF THE BALD MOUNTAIN, WHERE NIGHTMARES WERE MADE LIFE."
  72. Nobody Important (GM): "Go on, wise boar. Tell us your wisdom."
  73. Llamas: "Anyone with a strong enough will can change the world, we're just too small for the universe to take notice yet."
  74. BORIS: "THERE IS ONE EVIL, GREATER THAN ALL OTHERS. HE IS THE MASTER OF THE DAMNED AND THOSE WHO TORMENT THEM. I DO NOT KNOW MUCH, BUT I CAN ASSURE YOU, IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE VICTORY OF THIS DEMON THAT EVIL MEN HAVE COME TO RULE THE WORLD."
  75. Nicholas Hill: Nicholas sets his bowl down on the floor, barely touched, standing and making a little, flamboyant bow. "That's quite enough inspiring wisdom and trust-building exercises for me tonight. If you don't need any more redundant labor, princess, I'll be heading off to bed." He says the word 'Princess' jokingly, but soft and without malice.
  76. Nobody Important (GM): "Don't think I'm not still mad at you." She waves you away, but it's a bit less harsh and more playful than it was earlier.
  77. With Nick off to bed, she stares deeply into the fire and shudders. "Father always said the world had been cast into a deep shadow long before I was born. Maybe he spoke of your demon, Boris. Maybe not. But the world needs people like you."
  78. Llamas: "The shadows are never as deep as they look, my girl. There are still people trying to make a better world to live in."
  79. Nicholas Hill: -- END SCENE --
  80. Nobody Important (GM): Well, not to be that dramatic but yes.
  81. BORIS: -- Exposition scene ends --
  82. Nobody Important (GM): A new day dawns, and you are on your horses and away, with Boris following parallel to you all on your path to the Apache campground. It is sadly diminished from years of drought, according to Runs-With-Coyotes but about ten families still live in this particular tribe.
  83. Along the way, Runs-With-Coyotes speaks, breaking an otherwise comfortable silence. "Why do you treat the whole world like a game, Nicholas? Surely the world must contain some great danger you must acknowledge."
  84. Nicholas Hill: Nick shrugs. "You gotta have some way to have fun, don't you? I probably would have gone crazy back home if I didn't."
  85. BORIS: "I THINK YOU DID ANYWAYS."
  86. Llamas: "That's exactly what i was thinking, yes."
  87. Nicholas Hill: Nicholas raises a hand to his mouth. "Well, I never! Catch me, Princess, for I feel I am about to faint from these terrible affronts!"
  88. Nick feigns falling backwards in the general direction of Coyotes.
  89. Nobody Important (GM): She gently shoves you back onto your horse and smirks a bit. "Still, be on guard. I do not think they will be happy to see outsiders, even if you are here to help."
  90. "They will likely meet us with the threat of violence until I can vouch for you."
  91. Nicholas Hill: "Oh, how charming. How far away are we, again?"
  92. Llamas: "Would they really be suspicious of a boar and a poor little monkey?"
  93. BORIS: "I DO NOT THINK WE ARE THE ONES WHOM NEED TO BE VOUCHED FOR."
  94. Nobody Important (GM): "About a mile now. We are hidden from sight by the shrublands and our presence in a small valley."
  95. As if on cue you think you can see a plume of smoke in the distance.
  96. Nicholas Hill: Nick adjusts his little orange sash, suddenly looking a little more uncomfortable.
  97. Llamas: "Don't worry brother, we could just say you are Boris' pet".
  98. Nobody Important (GM): It's about five minutes on horseback before you hear a rustle from some of the nearby shrubs. You can just see the tips of what appear to be strange white bushes over the next dip in the ground before six men, painted white and orange in the face leap out, brandishing firearms and shouting.
  99. Nicholas Hill: "Yes, and we could say you were our meal for tomorrow."
  100. BORIS: "I AM PRACTICALLY HIS KEEPER ANYWAYS>"
  101. Nobody Important (GM): If you had to take a WILD GUESS, you would assume these are Apache braves.
  102. Nicholas Hill: ((Pause for figuring out if Ponderous who just got here is actually here or not, for all you viewers at home))
  103. BORIS: RESUME
  104. Nicholas Hill: ((Ponderous is now our third horse.))
  105. Nobody Important (GM): The screaming and wild flailing of rifles dies down awkwardly after a moment as they take in who is actually in your group.
  106. Llamas: I'm just trying to hide my wings and look like a normal Arizonian Beaked Monkey.
  107. Nobody Important (GM): One of them pipes up. "Runs-With-Coyotes, what are you doing here? Who are these..." he looks at the group. "Strange... 'people'.?"
  108. Nicholas Hill: Nicholas rests one hand on the handle of one of his swords, but doesn't draw it. He looks more uncomfortable than usual.
  109. BORIS: "NICK SHUT YOUR MOUTH NOW, WE DO NOT WANT REPEAT OF GETTING SHOT AT."
  110. Nicholas Hill: "I haven't even said anything yet!"
  111. BORIS: "YET."
  112. Nobody Important (GM): The braves awkwardly lower their rifles. "They didn'
  113. t kidnap you, did they?"
  114. Foul Ole Bill: I angrily snuffle at Nick and try to eat his sash
  115. Nicholas Hill: I kick at Bill and awkwardly hop away from him towards Boris, still trying to maintain eye contact with the Braves.
  116. Nobody Important (GM): Runs-With-Coyotes sighs. "No, they aren't bandits, Sings-To-Snakes. In fact, they dealt with the bandits because you couldn't. You should really be thanking them, odd as they are."
  117. Foul Ole Bill: I walk away, flicking him with my tail, and go over to Coyotes, trying to get her to pet me as if I were a cat, which works out strangely due to the fact that I am a full-sized horse
  118. Nobody Important (GM): One quick stroke of the mane and head, then a 'shoo, i'm busy' gesture.
  119. Foul Ole Bill: I am content
  120. Nobody Important (GM): Sings-To-Snakes looks a bit... awkward is the only way to describe it. "O-oh. I'm supposed to bring you back to the chief if I see you, so... Would they mind?"
  121. Nicholas Hill: "The fair lady is correct, painted half-naked men. I did, in fact, take down an entire nest of the scoundrels." Nick puffs his chest out. "It was quite a feat."
  122. BORIS: "NICK WHAT DID I TELL YOU."
  123. Llamas: (Narrative staffing to the knee.)
  124. BORIS: "LYING WILL NOT GET YOU ANYWHERE BUT IN TROUBLE."
  125. Nobody Important (GM): Sings-To-Snakes looks at you side-eyed. "I don't believe you."
  126. Nicholas Hill: Nicholas elbows Boris, hissing something about appearances and impressing.
  127. Nobody Important (GM): "There were twenty one of them."
  128. Nicholas Hill: "And now there are none! This is proof enough in itself." Nick goes for a hair flip and smile.
  129. Llamas: "let's just say he had some help, fgood sir."
  130. Nobody Important (GM): "Must have been a nice bit of distraction to get her free, huh?" the youngest pipes up before being elbowed into silence.
  131. Foul Ole Bill: in Horse, I tell him that Nick nearly got everyone killed, and the others present saved him
  132. Nicholas Hill: ((WILD NEIGHING))
  133. Nobody Important (GM): "Oh, fascinating." the one with a broken nose neighs back. "Did the bandits get removed? can we take credit for it?"
  134. Nicholas Hill: Nicholas plugs his ears. "WHY IS THE HORSE GOING CRAZY?"
  135. BORIS: "WHY DID I HAVE TO GET STUCK AS IDIOT'S WATCHER, THIS IS WORSE THAN FIREWORKS DISPOSAL DUTY."
  136. Llamas: "Believe me, there are worse things. Subject tests grooming time comes to mind."
  137. "just having a bit of conversation with this good man, don't worry nick."
  138. Nobody Important (GM): "So, uh... White man, boar, weird... bird creature, I guess we have to escort you back now. Hopefully it's not too much of a problem and you can leave whenever you want as long as you promise not to tell anyone where we are."
  139. Nicholas Hill: "Why- eh, why would it matter where you are?"
  140. BORIS: "REALLY, NICK?
  141. "REALLY?"
  142. Nicholas Hill: "What? What? I'm asking questions!"
  143. Foul Ole Bill: I swat Nick in the face with my tail for talking
  144. Nobody Important (GM): He looks at you like a man might at a particularly stupid child. "So the bandits and their flying monster don't attack us?"
  145. Llamas: "I suppose a little indian tribe would be a rich target for many disreputable individuals."
  146. Nobody Important (GM): "Surely you ran into some in the West."
  147. BORIS: "YOU SEE WHAT I HAVE TO PUT UP WI-HOLD ON A SEC, FLYING WHAT?"
  148. Foul Ole Bill: "Flying Monster?
  149. Llamas: "Flying...monster?"
  150. Nicholas Hill: "Can we take it?"
  151. Nobody Important (GM): "Yes, a great thing with wings like a bat and a hatred for all that lives." He pauses for a moment. "It eats horses."
  152. Foul Ole Bill: "Harumph"
  153. Nicholas Hill: "It does not sound so tough, yes?"
  154. BORIS: "WELL, NICE KNOWING YOU CRAZY HORSE."
  155. Foul Ole Bill: "You guys deal with horse-eater on your own"
  156. Nobody Important (GM): Sings-To-Snakes looks at you wide-eyed. "It's twenty feet long at the wingtips and IT EATS HORSES. I didn't say it didn't eat people, too!"
  157. Foul Ole Bill: "The other horses and I will stay here with the nice sane people"
  158. BORIS: "HOPEFULLY IT IS NOT FOND OF BACON. AH, BOLSHEVIKOFF, WHO AM I KIDDING, EVERYONE BUT THE JEWS ARE FOND OF BACON."
  159. Foul Ole Bill: "Yes, but they have the jumpy one who runs towards danger, and they don't know enough to tie him to a fence post"
  160. BORIS: "MAYBE I GET REALLY LUCKY, AND IS JEWISH MONSTER."
  161. Nicholas Hill: Nick gives an eyebrow-raised glance back.. "It may eat people, but you know what it doesn't do?" He cocks a finger at Snakes and offers a wide smile. "It does not eat Nicholas Hill."
  162. Foul Ole Bill: "I told you. I just told you"
  163. BORIS: "I THINK IT MIGHT TRY."
  164. Nobody Important (GM): All of the Braves drop their rifle points and speak in unison. "You are insane."
  165. Nicholas Hill: "No! I am Nicholas Hill."
  166. BORIS: "YOU SEE WHAT I HAVE TO DEAL WITH?!"
  167. Nicholas Hill: Nick clambers onto Boris's back and strikes a pose.
  168. Foul Ole Bill: As Nick strikes a heroic pose, I drop some horse manure on his foot, ruining the effect
  169. Nobody Important (GM): Runs-With-Coyotes has her head in her hands. "He's insane."
  170. BORIS: "PRINCESS, PLEASE, BETWEEN MAKING HIM COLLECT WOOD AND CLEANING YOUR GARMENTS, PLEASE TEACH HIM SOME SENSE."
  171. Foul Ole Bill: ((before he gets on Boris, not after. Boris is cool with horses))
  172. Nobody Important (GM): "Um..."
  173. "Follow us, then."
  174. BORIS: "NICK, I LET YOU DO THIS, BUT JUST SO THAT YOU LEARN NOT TO BITE OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW."
  175. Foul Ole Bill: I follow
  176. Nicholas Hill: Nick kicks off his boot at the horse the second the Braves leave and scrapes off as much as he can on the ground.
  177. "Ah, Boris, we'll be fine. It will be fun, trust me."
  178. Nobody Important (GM): The braves escort you to the quite desolate camp. There's maybe ten tents here, but everyone has come out to see you.
  179. Foul Ole Bill: I unceremoniously start chewing on a tent
  180. Nicholas Hill: Wave and smile to the people coming out.
  181. Make it flashy.
  182. BORIS: "YES, THAT'S IT, SMILE AND WAVE, JUST KEEP YOUR LIPS SEALED. LEAVE TALKING TO BORIS."
  183. Llamas: Just take a look around the village.
  184. Foul Ole Bill: "Do you have any apples?"
  185. BORIS: (no children?)
  186. Nobody Important (GM): A man in a truly spectacular headdress sits on a rickety wicker chair in the center of the camp. Everyone else is staring but his eyes remain shut and his lips twitch occasionally.
  187. Llamas: "Do you happen to have some apples for our horses?"
  188. Nobody Important (GM): ((Couldn't find good icons. Just imagine about three children per family running about.))
  189. BORIS: "DO THEY LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE APPLES?"
  190. "HAVE YOU EVEN SEEN A TREE SINCE WE GOT OFF THE TRAIN?"
  191. Nobody Important (GM): The people here, while not obviously desperately poor, do look like they are on hard times. The tents are raggedy and tattered and there is no food storage anywhere around here.
  192. Foul Ole Bill: ((so no apples))
  193. Nobody Important (GM): ((Probably not.))
  194. Foul Ole Bill: I keep chewing on a tent
  195. Nobody Important (GM): Nobody has shooed you away yt.
  196. yet*
  197. Nicholas Hill: We should probably let Coyotes lead us in here.
  198. Nobody Important (GM): The braves sort of cough awkwardly till the Chief breaks from his trance. He looks impassively from left to right at the lot of you before settling on Coyotes. "Daughter."
  199. Llamas: Agreed, let the princess make the presentations.
  200. Nobody Important (GM): "Now what did I tell you about running off?"
  201. BORIS: "WAIT, YOU MEAN SHE IS REALLY AS BAD AS NICK?"
  202. "OH THIS JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER."
  203. Nobody Important (GM): Runs-With-Coyotes looks... sheepish? as she steps forward. "I'm sorry, father."
  204. BORIS: "AND BY BETTER I MEAN RECIPE FOR DISASTER."
  205. Nicholas Hill: Nick has a rapidly broadening smile on his face.
  206. Llamas: "Let's not jump to conclusions, brother."
  207. Nobody Important (GM): "What were you looking for this time? More hope? Your time would be better spent on food or water."
  208. Llamas: "I was meaning you too, Nick."
  209. Nobody Important (GM): He turns to the rest of you, as if noticing you for the first time. "Come in, come in, strangers. To what do I owe the honor?"
  210. BORIS: "NICK IS BIG IDIOT. WE MAKE HIS DO WHATEVER YOUR DAUGHTER WANTS AS PUNISHMENT."
  211. "WILL HOPEFULLY TEACH HIM NOT TO BE IDIOT."
  212. Nicholas Hill: "That's a biased interpretation."
  213. Llamas: "What my porcine friend mean is: we saved your daughter from a dastardly band of bandits, and we think we could still be of help to your people, noble chief."
  214. Nobody Important (GM): He snorts. "Hopefully she didn't ask anything too ridiculous?" A moment of pondering at Llamas words. "Hm. Interesting."
  215. "But first, your name and in exchange, mine."
  216. BORIS: "BORIS. I AM TOLD IT IS PUN."
  217. Llamas: "Dances with Llamas, from the Andes."
  218. Nicholas Hill: "Nicholas Hill, from Jamestown, Virginia!"
  219. BORIS: "I THINK JAMES MEANS IDIOTS."
  220. "DON'T QUOTE ME ON THAT THOUGH."
  221. Nobody Important (GM): "A boar, a southerner, and a destroyer. How interesting. What a strange band you have picked up, daughter of mine. Now, I am Dances-With-The-Spirits, and we are the last of the Apache." He pauses. "That I know of."
  222. "And how do you plan to help the noble apache, southerner? We are scattered and gone. Would you remove the bandits? Then the colonists and towners will take their place. No, I think perhaps we are finished. This is our last gasp."
  223. BORIS: "WITH THAT ATTITUDE, YOU MIGHT BE."
  224. Llamas: "As long as there's life there is hope. The bandits are a concern, yes, but i think the survival of the tribe is our priority".
  225. Nobody Important (GM): "And how would you do that? What power do you have?"
  226. Llamas: "my frame might not look like much, but I am a consummate alchemist and well versed in many disciplines."
  227. BORIS: "YEAH, I DON'T KNOW WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT EITHER."
  228. Llamas: "But most of all i am a speaker for the earth. if you are ready to negotiate, I could summon aspirit of nature itself to help you out."
  229. BORIS: "HONESTLY, HE NEARLY AS CRAZY AS NICK."
  230. Foul Ole Bill: "and I am a wizard of vast unspeakable power!"
  231. I go back to chewing on the tent
  232. Llamas: "The first step to fund a thriving community is finding a way to use the environment, and i can put you on a first name basis with it."
  233. Nobody Important (GM): Dances-With-The-Spirits looks... Interested, mostly. "no, you are not a wizard. But... It has been a long time since the earth has spoken to us. I fear..." He sighs. "As foolish as this sounds, I fear that the 'sheriff of the west' has some sort of power over the land itself. There has been little rain these few years past."
  234. BORIS: "THIS HORSE TAKES THE CAKE THOUGH. I WISH OTHER SANE ONE WAS HERE."
  235. Nobody Important (GM): "He is an idiot, which is the worst part. Who controls their mount via yodeling?"
  236. BORIS: "WAIT, WHAT?"
  237. "WHAT IS THIS YODELLING OF WHICH YOU SPEAK?"
  238. Llamas: "I have seen for myself that the new rulers of the world have a more or less subtle influence over their realms, yes, but a little understanding with a local representative couldn't hurt."
  239. Nobody Important (GM): "Singing. Painful singing."
  240. Llamas: "A traditional singing technique i think."
  241. Foul Ole Bill: "I don't want to talk about it"
  242. BORIS: "LIKE CRAZY DEMON MAGICS SINGING?"
  243. Nobody Important (GM): "Sort of. But with more banjoes."
  244. Foul Ole Bill: "WORSE"
  245. Llamas: "That sounds, annoying."
  246. Nobody Important (GM): "It dominates the minds of animals who hear it. Beware, large pig."
  247. Llamas: "Anyway, your braves were talking about some kind of flying creature at the bandit's service.
  248. Nobody Important (GM): "Ah, yes. The sky demon."
  249. He closes his eyes again. Runs-With-Coyotes fidgets nervously.
  250. "It is a great thing of hate and anger rode by a hateful and angry man."
  251. "He calls himself... Pete of the smoking gun, but we know him as the terror of the plains."
  252. BORIS: "OH GOD I AM GETTING THE FLASHBACKS AGAIN."
  253. Foul Ole Bill: "SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD GUY"
  254. Llamas: "yes that sounds like a pretty big problem for someone trying to hide away. Any idea where we might find this Pete fellow?"
  255. BORIS: "PLEASE DON'T TELL ME IS MOUNTAIN. PLEASE."
  256. "NEVER AGAIN."
  257. Nobody Important (GM): He casts his gaze northward. "To the north. Probably among the hills and rocks, where he makes his den." He shrugs. "Either that or Vegas. I hear he goes there to gamble occasionally. But that is a dangerous place, and one must not simply walk in with no plan. The evil there does not sleep."
  258. Foul Ole Bill: "Can we go there? Let's go there."
  259. Llamas: "heard that Boris? No mountains".
  260. BORIS: "HILLS AND ROCKS, I DO HILLS AND ROCKS WELL. LET US CRUSH FLYING DEMON IN IT'S SLEEP."
  261. Foul Ole Bill: "Rocks hurt my feet, and I will defend you from evil. Or join the evil, if they have apples. But probably the first one"
  262. Nobody Important (GM): "The mountains are to the east and west. They are small, though. More like large hills."
  263. Llamas: "Yes, if this beast is so much of a hassle, we will find a way to make it inoffensive. Probably by taking out its rider."
  264. Nobody Important (GM): "Probably for the best. Now, we cannot offer you much, but all that is ours will be yours if you can... " he sighs. "At least attempt to restore us to our former glory."
  265. Foul Ole Bill: "I will destroy the beast on my own with my ancient cosmic powers if you can get me apples"
  266. Nobody Important (GM): "Do I look like I have an apple tree?"
  267. Foul Ole Bill: "Yes"
  268. BORIS: "NICK, OPEN YOUR MOUTH, HORSE IS WORSE THAN YOU COULD EVER BE."
  269. Llamas: "Knowing we did our part to restore the balance is all the reward we need, really. I still would feel much better if i could somehow help with your food scarcity. You do have a plantation of some kind, yes?"
  270. Nobody Important (GM): His face darkens. "We did. Till the 'sheriff' took it from us.
  271. He grows tobacco there now."
  272. There is general muttering from the Apache. This is a well-remembered event, clearly.
  273. Foul Ole Bill: ((for those of you following along at home, Foul Ole Bill is a vicious, insane horse that thinks he is magical, but really just kicks things))
  274. BORIS: "HEY, IF WE TRY TO TAKE PLANTATION BACK, CRAZY SKY DEMON WILL COME TO US YES? TWO BIRDS ONE STONE!
  275. Foul Ole Bill: "No, one bird, one plantation"
  276. "No stones"
  277. Nobody Important (GM): "One is unlikely to catch a bird with a stone, unless their head is full of rocks."
  278. Llamas: "it could be the perfect spot to lay an ambush, yes."
  279. Nobody Important (GM): "To the south and east lies our former plantation, if you must know. Please, if you must burn the crops, spare the houses."
  280. Foul Ole Bill: "I will go save your people, on one condition
  281. Llamas: "We'll try to avoid collateral damage, but we obviously can't promise anything."
  282. Foul Ole Bill: "When you get the farm back, plant an apple tree"
  283. BORIS: "MAYBE YOU KEEP CROPS AND SELL TAX-FREE CIGARS?"
  284. "I HEAR IS ALMOST AS GOOD AS CASINO TO MAKE DOSH."
  285. Nobody Important (GM): "Horse, when have I spoken to you about this? You are a horse. These are heroes."
  286. "That is a thought, Boris. We shall see."
  287. Foul Ole Bill: "But, but, but... I am Bill"
  288. Llamas: "Don't worry, one day you will find some one day."
  289. BORIS: "I SAY YOU ARE 3 WEEKS FROM GLUE FACTORY."
  290. "4, TOPS."
  291. Foul Ole Bill: I go sulk
  292. *grumble grumble grumble I'll show them grumble grumble grumble*
  293. Nobody Important (GM): "Well then, is that all?"
  294. Runs-With-Coyotes pipes up. "Father, I want to go with them, too!"
  295. He looks at her like a man who must explain to his quadriplegic daughter that her dreams of being a ballerina will never come true. "If you do this, do not expect anyone to go looking for you. You will be on your own. Understand?"
  296. Llamas: "Do not worry, we will take good care of her".
  297. "I guarantee for the safety of your daughter."
  298. Nobody Important (GM): "Fine, then. I entrust her to your likely capable care, but she should take care of herself. Can I offer you a drink before you go?"
  299. He seems... almost casually dismissive, as if extremely tired of this line of conversation.
  300. Llamas: "But of course."
  301. Nobody Important (GM): "Sajah! Beer!"
  302. That's where we're gonna call it tonight.
  303. Two lessons for everyone, sorry for the short session.
  304. So, I guess the fourth session starts here.
  305. Nicholas Hill: Reminder: We're attacking one of Slim's plantations that was used as Apache farmland before, so they can not starve.
  306. It's used as a tobacco plantation currently.
  307. We're currently planning out stuff in the OOC channel.
  308. Armand: sneaky stuff
  309. Nobody Important (GM): Where we last left off, Armand, Boris, Dances-With-Llamas, Nicholas, and Runs-With-Coyotes were off to go retake a farm from the dastardly bandits and Slim's lieutenant, Smoking-Gun Pete.
  310. The Apache Farming Lands, such as they were for a largely hunter-gatherer society, have been turned into an expansive plantation that ranges over a mile but is mostly staffed by workers.
  311. However, Smoking-Gun Pete will need to die. Probably not a horrible on-screen death, but at the least he needs to be disarmed to cripple Alameda Slim's influence over South Nevada.
  312. If I recall, the crew intends to turn over the Old West to Ol'
  313. Ol' Sam and the actual lawmen who were ousted by Alameda, yes?
  314. Nicholas Hill: That's correct.
  315. Llamas: yeah.
  316. Nicholas Hill: And a generous portion to the Apache.
  317. Nobody Important (GM): They are a diminished people now, but I'm sure they'll be happy to get their ancestral lands back.
  318. Nicholas Hill: So, we were off to the Plantation, then.
  319. Nobody Important (GM): Yes.
  320. It's about five PM when the Chief, Dances-With-The-Spirits finishes giving you what meager supplies and directions they can offer.
  321. Would you guys like to go under the cover of night, or wait till daytime?
  322. Nicholas Hill: Let's head in Night.
  323. Waiting is boring.
  324. Nobody Important (GM): Waiting is boring, I agree.
  325. Llamas: Let's go yes.
  326. BORIS: ROBUSTNESS STEALTH
  327. Nobody Important (GM): It's, oh, 11:30 if you had to guess when you can see the plantation on the horizon.
  328. God, everything is so FLAT here.
  329. It's... sprawling, would be the best way to describe it.
  330. Ten foot ditches which the tobacco plants are watered in and planted, and ten foot walkways of raised dirt. For over two miles.
  331. You can see the central building complex from here -- three large wooden buildings which even now have torches on as laborers work in the light.
  332. Luckily the farthest reaches have no torches mounted, and you can easily sneak through the unmanned tobacco fields furthest from the house.
  333. Nobody Important (GM): There's still about two hundred meters of lit and manned tobacco fields to cross if you want to get to the house, though.
  334. Llamas: Gonna finally follow up with my spirit speaker act.
  335. Nobody Important (GM): Alright.
  336. How so?
  337. Llamas: Well I attract the attention of the nearest spirit with the traditional andean way: by offering an alcoholic drink. And sacrificing some water from our canteens as an offering.
  338. And a Will point of course.
  339. Nobody Important (GM): Alright.
  340. Llamas: "Come spirit, heed my call and accept a friendly gift from your flesh-brother."
  341. Nobody Important (GM): There is a rumble in the dirt, dust, and sand below you, and the rest of the group reflexively stands back as an eight-foot tall... thing forms out of rock and dirt.
  342. It's like someone cut a shape out of earth in the general proportions of a human, but forgot to add any details.
  343. It's face is just two divots filled with gems for eyes and a gaping hole for it's mouth.
  344. Nicholas Hill: "Mind telling us what exactly you plan to do with this thing?"
  345. Nobody Important (GM): "I gratefully accept this gift. For what purpose was this given?" It's voice like rocks grinding against each other.
  346. It gingerly takes the alcohol between it's enormous rock fingers and pours it into the hole in it's mouth, where it vanishes... somehow.
  347. Llamas: I bow my head "hail to you, friend. Me and my companions are on a great quest to give these lands back to the proper hands of their indian propietors. Your help would be most welcome."
  348. "We require nothing but some information on that compound."
  349. Nobody Important (GM): "Ah, yes. The children of the land. Their cries have not gone un-noticed, but we are not as..." the spirit shrugs. "Able, as we used to be. What do you want to know? I shall do all that is in my power to help."
  350. Llamas: "We are mostly interested in the inhabitants and what's inside the structures. Guards, workers, whatever you know."
  351. Nobody Important (GM): It leans back. I say "It' because it lacks any anatomical features that would distinguish it as a him or her. "Numbers... Always with numbers, you humans." A rumble of rock on rock, and it finishes thinking. "Many feet tread this land. Workers are the ones without guns, those spitters of metal and fire, yes? There are roughly two hundreds of those. The guards are less. They do not need them to keep the workers in line, for they have nowhere but the desert to run and it is less forgiving than it was before the Usurper came."
  352. "As for the guards... They bring new workers in every few days, the workers that do not live here. I think there are fourty and seven of them."
  353. "Twenty of them sleep at a time."
  354. "Their boots are not very good, either. But I suspect you don't care much about that."
  355. Llamas: I translate everything out loud, just to be sure. "Thank you brother. Unless my friends have any more question we must say goodbye".
  356. Nobody Important (GM): "With a gift like that, you are welcome to ask questions any time!"
  357. BORIS: "WELL CLEARLY THERE ARE TOO MANY GUARDS FOR HEAD-ON ATTACK. PERHAPS WE LEARN WHO IS LEADER AND ELIMINATE HIM?"
  358. "WORKED LAST TIME."
  359. Llamas: "47 guards then. What's the plan?"
  360. "Oh, it did work. Not before we were treated to a rain of bullets tough."
  361. Nicholas Hill: Nick crouches and points a finger at the abandoned, darkened parts of the plantation to the side. "Before we do anything, how 'bout I slip in over there and see what's actually going on? No offense, but I'm not sure how much we can rely on a gnashing rock."
  362. Llamas: "yes, a bit of first hand information can't hurt."
  363. Nobody Important (GM): Are you going to dismiss the spirit then?
  364. BORIS: "SO WE MUST ISOLATE HIM FROM THE REST, DAH? NICKOLAS TOVARISCH, PLEASE FIND WHO IS LEADER."
  365. Nobody Important (GM): Or does anyone have any more questions for the rock monster?
  366. Llamas: If nobody has any more questions yes.
  367. BORIS: WAIT
  368. Nicholas Hill: Nick stands up and flicks his sash a little. "Well, certainly glad at this newfound trust in my overwhelming abilities! I'll be back in five, Princess, weird animal companions, Armand."
  369. BORIS: "YOU SPEAK OF 'USURPER'. I HAVE SEEN HIS EVIL, IT FORCED ME TO FLEE HOME. BUT FOR HIM TO BE USURPER, HE HAD TO USURP SOMEONE. WHO DID HE USURP?"
  370. Nicholas Hill: Rollan for stealth to get over to the first building.

  382. Llamas: "That's an excellent question". Simultaneous translation.
  383. Nobody Important (GM): The spirit ponders for a moment.
  384. "I think... perhaps we are talking of different usurpers. I know little of what is outside of myself, but I know that the yellow suited wide man has stolen the rightful ownership of this land from it's people."
  385. "You call him 'slim', but he is not. You see?"
  386. Nicholas Hill: ((COLD))
  387. Nobody Important (GM): "What a strange paradox. Perhaps I shall devote some years to thinking about it."
  388. BORIS: "MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT SUCH NAMINGS IS HUMAN PHENOMENA CALLED 'IRONY'."
  389. Nobody Important (GM): "There is nothing iron about it."
  390. "It is naught but wind."
  391. "Have you another question, then, little boar?"
  392. BORIS: "IRONY NOTHING TO DO WITH IRON; THEY JUST SIMILAR SOUNDING WORDS. I DO NOT QUITE UNDERSTAND IT MYSELF."
  393. "NO, I AM GOOD NOW."
  394. Nobody Important (GM): "Then, I shall depart. I will be everywhere if you need me."
  395. It stands still for a moment, and the life goes out of the golem. It collapses upon itself within moments and sinks back seamlessly into the earth. Within moments there is nothing to indicate anything weird happened.
  396. "that was a bit more... Literal... than the usual spirit dance, Dances-With-Llamas." Runs-With-Coyotes remarks.
  397. Llamas: "I did tell you my experience in the lowland of the Empire was pretty intense, did I not?"
  398. Nobody Important (GM): Alright, Nick, you're going in?
  399. Nicholas Hill: Yep.
  400. Nobody Important (GM): Test me Stealth, please.
  401. How close do you want to sneak?
  402. Nicholas Hill: Already tested Stealth.
  403. BORIS: he got a 26 previously
  404. Nicholas Hill: Up to the first building.
  405. Nobody Important (GM): Ah, my bad.
  406. BORIS: And I will use robustness stealth to move not nearly as close, but certainly close enough to rush to Nick's aid if everything goes to hell.
  407. Nobody Important (GM): Okay. It's difficult, but you manage to sneak up through the rows and rows (and rows and rows, lord almighty) of Tobacco. This is the biggest building, and there are roughly five guards on a balcony supposedly watching but really just playing cards and smoking tobacco.

  422. The handful of tired, dirty workers don't give you a second look.
  423. BORIS: "I AM AT ONE WITH THE EARTH."

  455. Workers are sleeping two a bed, but nobody appears to be awake in this main room. You think you can see a dining room/kitchen to your right, and there are stairs on the far left wall probably to the balcony.
  456. Or to the second floor, either way.
  457. Nicholas Hill: Are there any guards sleeping, or is this just the worker's quarters?
  458. Nobody Important (GM): Worker's quarters.
  459. If you recall from Llama's translation of the weird rock thing he did, the guards sleep in the barn with the horses.
  460. Nicholas Hill: Alright then. Doubt there's anything useful in there or the kitchen, so let's move up to the second floor before going to the Guard's place.
  461. Nobody Important (GM): Why? Probably because it's more comfortable than those beds. Those mattresses look like rocks.
  462. More beds up here. Few people moving sleepily about before they collapse after a hard day's work for under minimum wage. Door to the balcony. There's a poker table in here with something on it, but you can't see it from the stairwell.
  463. Nicholas Hill: I have to roll anything to get over to that poker table?
  464. Nobody Important (GM): Well, roll and get me over 15.
  465. Nicholas Hill: Auto
  466. Nobody Important (GM): Nobody in here is looking for an intruder.
  467. Alright. You slip and sneak your way over to the poker table. Your back is to a pillar and you can hear people shuffling about behind you. On the table appears to be a set of keys, and a small book.
  468. Flipping open the book, you find it's a shipping ledger for the tobacco, along with a 'payment received' notice after each shipment.
  469. Not that Nick understands MUCH of this, mind, but he understands what 'payment for goods delivered' means.
  470. BORIS: (acquire keys)

  490. Somehow, nobody notices your flashy display and softly hummed theme music.
  491. The barn has a couple entrances, and you're at the second floor window right now if you care to climb up.

  609. At the very least, it's gotta be better than working outside for a dollar a day or less.
  610. "Alright, so what's the plan, then?" They seem pretty organized for a bunch of exhausted laborers.
  611. Nicholas Hill: "Well, half the guards are totally unarmed now, and the other half are tired and working the fields. If we take the couple out there by suprise and inspire our friends toiling even now to join us, we can take the entire plantation in one fell swoop!"
