  1. Character: Marina Jason
  2. Theme/Fatal Flaw: Desire and Ambition
  3. Marina’s Slow Descent from OS1 to OS2
  4. Blind Ambition
  5. Marina initially starts out as a boyish, internet-savy genius with a master plan. Her dreams revolve around living in a united world due to her experiences on the Internet and with other people causing her to have an immense desire to have all the people around her happy and safe, alongside create a world united and happy. This desire is the most manipulable aspect of Marina’s personality. Despite genuinely caring for those around her, Marina desires to always have them close to her as a result of her isolated childhood.
  6. Driven almost entirely by her desire to return to her family on Earth, Marina finally resolved to fight alongside the rest of the group upon growing to see them all as friends. Desiring to have a world where she and her friends lived in peace and happiness, and ultimately win Draden’s affection, Marina finds the hope in the future she needs to wield the full power of the Azure Frost Unit despite the fact that the Unit is still incomplete. Traversing the Endless Abyss and defeating the Azure Remnant allowed Marina to gain the Serpent’s Eye Akashic Record. Marina finally begins her descent when she learns of the destiny Fate has superimposed on Terras, a world she grew to love.
  7. Knowing Fate planned to drag Terras into oblivion and knowing Draden’s close friend and Jack’s half-sister Scar would perish upon Fate regaining his full power, not only realizing that the wishes the heroes make would only condemn other variations of the world to all their negative aspects, Marina expressed anger at how the flow of time itself seems determined to make it so that the heroes have no positive ending. Her scorn finally shows itself in earnest when she remembers the pain she went through when her family split apart for petty reasons, and swears to “put an end to this sick puppet show of misery”. With her judgment clouded, Marina uses the Serpent’s Eye to destroy Fate’s hold over the future by empowering her Unit with the ability to cut souls and time itself, but only if she uses her full power. Claiming to understand the weight of her responsibility, Marina then enters The Other Side in the Endless Abyss to permanently change the destinies of the people close to her, clouded by her ambition and desire for a happy ending.
  8. Marina then returns from the Endless Abyss with an uncharacteristically happy attitude, as a result of altering time so that her vision of a happy ending would occur after Fate’s death. However, thanks to her ambition and lack of foresight, this will cause complication and extreme sadness for Marina and those she loves down the road, alongside leaving her vulnerable to being completely possessed by the soul of the Azure Wyvern. Marina is too lost and high off her hope, desire, and ambition to truly recognize the consequences of trying to force the world to conform to her will. Despite this, there is also a positive aspect; her hope and desire for a better world influence those around her to do the same, resulting in their destinies changing to conform to their wills. However, Marina’s vision would shine through, with the drastic consequences made clear.

  13. Desperation and Paranoia
  14. Marina returns in The Other Side 2 as a 17 year old young woman with unrequited love for Draden Williams, who has become a Sky Pirate to fight against evil across Terras and uphold the peace brought on by both Fate’s death and the fall of the Savior Corps that awakened him. Marina shows signs of her descent when she makes clear her immense worry for Draden and his lifestyle, becoming more and more worried as Draden’s reckless and impulsive lifestyle began to strain his relationship with his twin brother, Justice Williams. Justice proved to be a vector for Marina’s worry as Justice’s increasingly volatile and templarian nature begins to make him antagonistic toward Draden and any of her friends who side with him. Aided by her friend Shirley and several new accomplices, Marina decides to go forth and get herself involved in the growing beef between the factions of Cipher (a lawful and peacekeeping army of Enforcers who uphold the law at any angle, whom Justice has allied with) and Valhalla (A chaotic and battle-hungry mercenary Sky Pirate group who run around Terras lawlessly executing, kidnapping, and robbing criminals and villains in cold blood, a faction Draden has allied himself with).
  15. Marina becomes desperate to bring back happiness among her friends despite their differing philosophies, wanting nothing more than to see all of them together and smiling again. However, Draden’s reckless attitude alongside his insistence that she not get involved continue to wear on Marina’s psyche, until she is corrupted by the Dark Side, an eldritch realm where the very essence of darkness lies, and where the Phantom race is imprisoned. Marina, feeling that there is no other way to mend the gap between her friends and create a happy future, finally solidifies her descent when she is seduced into transforming the entire human race into Phantoms, finally jaded with the violent and warring nature of the world. Marina, at this point, has become a villain driven by good intention, ultimately leaving her open to be influenced by the goddess of chaos, Nihilas the Tormentor, and driving her to delve too far in her curiosity of the Phantoms that seek to transform humanity.
  16. Marina, plagued by grisly future visions thanks to the Serpent’s Eye she kept, starts seeking solutions to the issues, namely trying to avert the future of Draden being killed by Justice and the world falling victim to Cipher’s totalitarian dystopia vision. As a result, she learns more about past bearers of the Azure Frost, and ultimately learns about the uncertain fate of the previous queen of the Phantoms, and how Phantoms have learned to transform humans into them through either killing them and reviving them with the power of the Dark Side, or the use of Dark Malcite, a substance that forces the infected person’s soul to be overridden with darkness. Marina is thrilled by their effective and united society, and is somewhat enthralled by how the society is united under a common goal; the revival of their monarchs, Astricus Dragnas and Aegis Stellune. However, still hanging on to her moral conscience by a thread, Marina decides to test her faith in humanity once again by joining her friends in battle against the Phantoms in a climactic stand in San Francisco. Marina is then captured and placed on an electric chair.
  17. Before the electrocution is kills her, Marina sheds tears at how she was unable to save Draden, and weeps over the fact that she has saved nobody from their grisly fates, as well as the fact that Draden would ultimately lose his battle against Cipher. However, as the last electrocution kills her, her final sight is Draden rushing in to save her and a dark mist surrounding her body. Marina is then enticed by Aegis, the queen of Phantoms, who reveals that Marina is her reincarnation, and offers her the chance to not only save her friends, but also have Draden to herself. With her judgment twisted not only due to the Dark Side, but also due to her own desperation and longing, alongside a hint of vengefulness toward Cipher and Justice, Marina accepts Aegis and merges with the Phantom Queen, returning to the world of the living as a Phantom.
  18. Announcing her grand design of saving her friends, killing Justice and Cipher, and having Draden to herself, Marina, now adopting Aegis’s name, has become a dangerously cunning and powerful matriarch of the Phantoms, while acting seductive and playful toward Draden to entice him to become the King of Darkness and rule alongside her. However, her calm and cunning exterior breaks the moment someone targets Draden, his family, or her own family (Especially in the case of Draden), in which she turns murderous and brutal toward any and all aggressors. Marina, at this point, has made the final step from a heroic tomboy into a dangerous yandere.
