  24. [20:56:27] <Siyao> "Oh!" Siyao accepts the package eagerly. "Phank yew!" she says as she stuffs one bun in her mouth while hiding another down the sleeve of her habit.

  28. [21:02:07] <Siyao> Siyao gulps down the last of the bun before answering. She'll show Addy 'true manners'! "We have. It has been perilous in the city of late."
  29. [21:03:08] <Addy> "Good thing I'm the bonyfied best darn Bokor this side o'Haiti!"
  30. [21:03:28] <Addy> She beams proudly, having scarfed down her food before talking. There are crumbs on her face, though.
  31. [21:05:00] <@castfromhp> Dan leans in close and whispers to Siyao. "I must admit ma'am, I do not understand this child you have brought along."

  35. [21:07:35] <Siyao> Siyao takes a seat and flattens out the front of her skirts before smiling back at him. "She...has a good heart." The nun reaches over to brush the crumbs away from Addy's mouth. "Sir, you mentioned the government's agenda for the city. If I may, I'd like to know yours."
  36. [21:10:02] <Addy> Addy playbites at one of her fingers when she brushes the crumbs. "Blub blub blub, lookie, I'm a fishy onna line!" She flops like a fish out of water.
  37. [21:10:25] <@castfromhp> "To see Hong Kong prosper as an independent sovereign entity." He flashes the flower emblem again. "Of course, that's rather long term given all this, isn't it?"
  38. [21:13:54] <Siyao> Siyao nods worriedly, as Addy continues to gnaw her finger. "I suppose. I, too, want Hong Kong to prosper, but as for the best way to do that right now..."
  39. [21:15:15] <@castfromhp> Man this guy doesn't know how to react to Addy at all. "We aren't like the government. If you disagree with us ideologically, we aren't going to just toss you out on your asses. Or send a military helicopter after you." He laughs good naturedly.
  40. [21:16:04] <Addy> Addy releases Siyao's finger. She tilts her head and interjects, "Tasty like pineapple buns, Miss Seeya! Whaddaya think this Misterguy tastes like?"

  42. [21:20:44] <Siyao> Siyao smiles back. "That's a relief. What DO you plan to do?" she persists, still perfectly genial.

  50. [21:26:37] <Addy> Addy gives a big shrug. She has no fucking clue what's going on, so it makes little difference to her.
  51. [21:28:27] <Siyao> Siyao pauses, wondering how much information she can trust this man with. "We...suspect there may be objectives in the city worth defending. Surely you've noticed some strange behavior from the Triads?"
  52. [21:29:57] <@castfromhp> "Strange is one way to put it I suppose!" Dan walks toward a wall and waves his hand, causing stairs to suddenly form. Or maybe they were there the whole time and are just now visible. They lead up to a simple wooden door.
  53. [21:32:17] <Siyao> Siyao stands and approachs, but pauses at the foot of the stair. "What do you make of it all, Mr. Dan?"
  54. [21:33:42] <@castfromhp> "My understanding is fuzzy. It's not something you have to worry about much though. In two days it'll all blow over and magic will never be a problem for anyone again."

  56. [21:37:15] <@castfromhp> "Because it will be gone." Dan opens the door, revealing a small cozy lounge area. It's a bit claustrophobic in here, but it looks homely. A couch in the corner with a young Chinese boy sitting on it, kicking his feet around. In another corner, an old man is asleep in an armchair.
  57. [21:39:11] <@castfromhp> There's a coffee table in the center of the area, with a tea pot and a few cups.
  58. [21:39:25] <@castfromhp> Old Chinese ink paintings line the walls.
  59. [21:40:00] <Siyao> Siyao exchanges a glance with Addy. "Thank you for your kind offer, Mr. Dan. Unfortunately...we have errands to attend to this afternoon. I'm afraid we'll have to decline your off for refuge here." She takes a step backwards, without turning around.
  60. [21:43:05] <@castfromhp> "That's fine too. Where does your business take you in the city?"
  61. [21:43:48] <Siyao> "The Island," says Siyao curtly, not wanting to give more detail than that.
  62. [21:44:05] <@castfromhp> The kid looks around with a bored expression before noticing Addy. He runs up and tries to snatch up her hat. "<Wow, a top hat! Haha it's like that funny guy on the American money!>"
  63. [21:46:05] <Addy> Bad idea. Addy takes a big step back, "Uh, sorry Misterboyguy, but I can't letcha do that. If ya took my hat, I'd hafta get real upset and ain't nobody oughtta like that!" In fact, her hat's the focus for her transformation as well as her prized possession. Trying to take it would be a bad idea.
  64. [21:46:23] <@castfromhp> "Well, you're not going to get there via MTR today." Dan sighs as the kid runs past.
  65. [21:47:06] <@castfromhp> "<You'reusingweirdfunnywords. Gimme, gimme, gimme!>" The kid hops toward and grabs up at the hat, bouncing on tip-toes.
  66. [21:47:54] <Addy> Addy fiercely sticks both her hands out, jabbing at the kid aggressively as she tickles both his sides without remorse.
  67. [21:49:13] <@castfromhp> "<AIYAH! NO NO NO!>" He backs up a bit. Dan looks like he's trying his hardest to ignore all this. The kid backs up and assesses his options for approaching again, eyes still pinned to the hat.
  68. [21:49:45] <Siyao> Siyao smiles to she the two kids playing happily together. To Dan, she asks, "How would you recommend we reach the island, then, sir?"
  69. [21:52:26] <@castfromhp> "The ferries, if they're not locked down like the MTR likely is by now. It may be worth chancing it. Otherwise, we have our own methods we could offer..."
  70. [21:54:24] <Siyao> Siyao folds her hands in front of her chest and gives Dan an imploring smile.

  75. [21:58:17] <@castfromhp> A tall shadowy humanoid appears in front of Addy, rising from her shadow. His eyes glow yellow as he extends long spider-like armors down to the boy and tickles him ferociously.
  76. [21:59:47] <Addy> Addy's eyes, meanwhile, turn just as yellow. They're not glowing golden orbs, but rather, her irises are a bright, almost orange yellow. It makes her skin almost seem even more pale than usual. She giggles, a little bit of reverb echoing in her voice.
  77. [22:02:20] <@castfromhp> Dan turns toward Siyao. "I'm uh, gonna need an explanation. I caught on that the one with the goggles was involved in this magic. Just what is YOUR agenda here?"

  79. [22:05:09] <Siyao> Siyao smiles gently at the man. "I'm just a simple sister, sir. But the people of this city are in danger, and it's up to me to protect them. The Good Shepherd watches over his flock."
  80. [22:06:32] <Addy> "Vessel? Naw, I'm a Bokor, silly, but I can be a real good Cheval sometimes, I reckon. Ain't that kinda like a vessel?"
  81. [22:08:19] <@castfromhp> Slenderman has chased the boy over to the couch where he is still being furiously tickled.

  83. [22:09:23] <@castfromhp> Dan sighs as he asks his question, slumping against the door frame.
  84. [22:09:28] <Addy> Addy cheers on her ghostbuddy. /x/ would be drooling right now. "Gettim! There ya go! Ain't Slendy great?"
  85. [22:13:22] <Siyao> "Stop the rituals," says Siyao firmly, "and protect the citizens. You're doing a good deed here, Mr. Dan, but it isn't the only deed that needs done. Help us, and I know we can make a difference out there."
  86. [22:13:26] <@castfromhp> "Your...familiar is well-dressed." Dan doesn't seem to know what else to say about the slenderman.
  87. [22:14:24] <Addy> "Familiar? Naw, he's just a buddy o'mine. I got plenty friends sorta like him but lots different."
  88. [22:15:17] <@castfromhp> "You mean stop the government from claiming a meridian? They practically have a lock on Wood. The only ones who could steal it from them now are the corporations, but I hardly think they have good intentions either. Chalk it up as a loss. Prepare to defend another meridian. That's our plan at least."

  90. [22:17:17] <@castfromhp> "Meridian. Or you can call it a chakra I guess. For each element." Dan's speech is sudden slower and more cautious, gauging your reactions.
  91. [22:20:37] <Siyao> "The five objectives," says Siyao to Addy, giving her a nudge. "We have advantages you don't, Mr. Dan. A girl undercover with the group trying to take today's Meridian."

  97. [22:25:27] <Siyao> "Do you intend to fight at all, Mr. Dan?" The question is asked quietly, but with an accusing tone. Siyao's smile is gone, replaced with a tight grimace.
  98. [22:26:02] <@castfromhp> "Why do you oppose the government though? What's your objective?" Dan then turns to Addy. "Fire...fire is claimed solidly by the government as well. But even then, it is only 2 of 3, and we can reclaim water in time."

  100. [22:28:58] <@castfromhp> "I can keep people safe, take in anyone the government is looking for who doesn't want in this fight and keep them hidden. No one chooses to be born on a magically significant day, right? Some people want no part of this war, and I'm here to oblige them."
  101. [22:30:54] <Siyao> "Very charitable. But aren't you really just snatching them up like all the others? You haven't been forthright, Mr. Dan. What do you mean to do with these Meridians you'd have us believe you'll claim?"
  102. [22:32:25] <@castfromhp> "They come with me willingly. And are free to leave, as you are now." He shrugs. "Keep them. If no one USES them, they'll fizzle and all this magic will just disappear when the time has passed. And if we have enough, we'll be able to oppose whatever the government does with theirs."
  103. [22:34:15] <@castfromhp> "And if the Triads claim one or two, well, that just extends the stalemate."
  104. [22:36:17] <Siyao> "So you think you can get enough to keep the government from using them to take over?" Siyao strokes her chin through her wimple. "I could see it working. How does the board stand now, though? The government seems to have you at a disadvantage."
  105. [22:37:59] <@castfromhp> "The government will have three by the end of the day, unless the corporations take Wood. We will hold Metal, and all that's needed is to take Water back from them to even the score. The PRC resents Chinese mysticality. They crack down on Falun Gong. They can't hold Water."
  106. [22:40:59] <Siyao> "Then it would help if the corporations took Wood. Two-two-one, rather than three-two."

  111. [22:47:30] <@castfromhp> "It's certainly possible." Dan ponders. By this point the little boy has somehow escaped slenderman's grasp and tries to sneak up behind Addy to grab her hat.

  114. [22:48:33] <Addy> It grabs the boy and tries to pull him inside
  115. [22:49:25] <@castfromhp> "<AIYAH!>" The kid grabs onto Addy's dress and holds on for dear life.
  116. [22:49:40] <@castfromhp> "In any case," Dan steps lightly around the two kids. "What do you plan to do now?"
  117. [22:50:34] <Addy> Out of the ruffles comes another shadowy hand.
  118. [22:50:41] <Addy> It still tries to push him into the hat, though.
  119. [22:50:52] <Addy> "Aw, settle down now, c'mon.'
  120. [22:54:17] <Siyao> Siyao thinks about his question. "Five Meridians, five days, right? Wood is today, on day three; when were the others?"
  121. [22:55:05] <Addy> "Can't forget the wind and the TV!"
  122. [22:56:59] <@castfromhp> Dan shakes his head. "It doesn't have to be one a day. Just whoever manages to...say, just what do you know? You're missing a good amount of it, I feel."
  123. [22:57:34] <@castfromhp> The little kid looks up at Addy with pleading puppy eyes as he grabs harder to not be pulled in. "<I just wanted to wear the hat!>"

  125. [22:58:07] <Addy> It's bearing a lollipop.
  126. [22:58:22] <Addy> Addy giggles, "They jus' wanna say hi, boo."
  127. [22:58:54] <@castfromhp> "..." He lets go and reaches for the lollipop.
  128. [23:00:32] <Addy> The hands circle around him like sharks in water, but they don't grab him. At the very least, not yet. The arms are long and stringy, almost like the shadows of ribbons stretching out with hands attach. Long, almost clawed hands with fingers of unnerving length.
  129. [23:01:10] <Siyao> "That's possible," says Siyao, frowning. "We know Water went two days ago, to the government, and that Wood goes today. And we know all the locations. What am I missing?"
  130. [23:01:43] <@castfromhp> "<You have a funny hat! It's like grandpa when he's around flowers.>" The kid grins a wide toothy grin at Addy.

  132. [23:02:07] <@castfromhp> "Locations? What are you doing to keep up to date on those?"
  133. [23:02:09] <@castfromhp> He is indeed.
  134. [23:02:14] <Addy> It's really fucking spicy.

  136. [23:02:43] <@castfromhp> "<It takes like mapo tofu! My favorite!>"
  137. [23:03:11] <Addy> Addy smiles obliviously and nods. She has no idea what she's saying and it's not like she realizes what the lollipop was really like anyway.
  138. [23:04:02] <@castfromhp> A few more seconds of sucking and the kid dashes downstairs. "<WATER!>"
  139. [23:06:09] <Siyao> Siyao smiles. "I asked first," she teases, glad to have a tidbit of information he doesn't. Or at least, hoping she does. "It seems like we can help one another. What's the significance of the arrival times? What makes a new Meridian become available?"
  140. [23:07:15] <@castfromhp> "They're always available." Dan looks confused. "It's just up to someone to create enough symbolic significance to take claim of one of them."
  141. [23:08:03] <Addy> "Bye, li'l guy!"
  142. [23:11:56] <Siyao> Siyao wrinkles her brow. "Hm... Then how do they build significance? And where do the demons come from? There was fighting around the Buddha statue."

  144. [23:14:17] <Siyao> "You know what I mean," persists Siyao, recalling her conversation with Jing-Wei.

  146. [23:16:44] <Siyao> "I was chased through Walled City Park by a monster made of concrete. You don't happen to know about that either, do you?"
  147. [23:17:40] <@castfromhp> "Golems. The Triad is fond of them. They're not demons by any measure though. Look, the meridians are neutral. They're just raw power and symbolism waiting to be claimed. I don't know what you mean by demons."
  148. [23:19:35] <Siyao> "Mm." Siyao frowns. "Did any other factions oppose the government taking the Water Meridian? The Corps, perhaps?"
  149. [23:20:38] <@castfromhp> "We did. We picked a battle we were ill-equipped to win, unfortunately, that time."
  150. [23:20:54] <Addy> "Who're y'all, again?"
  151. [23:22:27] <@castfromhp> "The Hong Kong Independence Movement. And are you working with...anyone?" Dan only briefly looks down at Addy before returning his gaze to Siyao. "I've seen groups of people like you working around the city. It's brave work, but the odds are against you."
  152. [23:24:05] <Addy> "I work with m'friends! An' with the Loa, y'know."
  153. [23:24:35] <Siyao> "Because of how much work goes into capturing a Meridian, right? It takes more power than we could expect to marshall ourselves?""
  154. [23:27:10] <@castfromhp> "And because you're going up against large organizations like the government. We're barely getting by, even with the numbers we have. Then again, we're sorely lacking in anyone with magical power. It's why I'm to stay safe."
  155. [23:31:53] <Siyao> "I see." Siyao nods. "There's strength in numbers, true. Let me give you my cell number. If you need to get in contact with us."

  157. [23:33:19] <@castfromhp> The kid is back now, carrying a really tall glass of water. He offers the lollipop to Addy. "<Share! Don't worry, I'm not sick.>"
  158. [23:34:25] <Siyao> "Ah, he wants to share, Addy."
  159. [23:36:14] <Addy> "Oh! Awrity." She accepts the lollipop and pops it in her mouth.
  160. [23:40:12] <@castfromhp> It tastes however you made it.
  161. [23:40:42] <@castfromhp> "Anyhow, you want to be getting somewhere don't you, ma'am?" Dan turns and waves another hand, and a walkway appears at the landing at the top of the stairs, leading to another door across the room.
  162. [23:42:09] <Siyao> "Ah! We do. Where does this lead?"
  163. [23:44:00] <@castfromhp> Dan pulls out a phone and taps at it as he walks. After a few seconds he stops and mutters a few choice curses in Cantonese.
  164. [23:44:25] <@castfromhp> "Well, we HAD teleportation pads set up on the island, but it seems the government works faster than we imagined."
  165. [23:44:41] <@castfromhp> "The closest I can get you to is a set of tunnels going underwater under the bay."
  166. [23:45:04] <Siyao> "They come up on the Island?"
  167. [23:46:04] <@castfromhp> "Yeah."
  168. [23:47:32] <Addy> "Unnerwater tunnels? But I ain't REALLY a fishy!"
  169. [23:47:38] <Siyao> "That will be fine, then." Siyao bows. "Thank you for all your assistence, Mr. Dan. May the Lord in Heaven bless you."
  170. [23:48:20] <@castfromhp> "No problem. Here's my number as well. Best of luck, and may your prayers be heard." He exchanges phone numbers with you.
  171. [23:50:49] <Siyao> Siyao nods again, then gestures Addy toward the door. "We should get going, then. No time to lose."
  172. [23:51:38] <@castfromhp> "<Bye bye, thanks for the lollipop!>" The kid pulls out an identical lollipop to the one that Addy gave him as he waves.
  173. [23:53:44] <Addy> Addy, for one, doesn't seem to be bothered by the ridiculously hot lollipop! She falls in line behind Siyao.
  174. [23:54:29] <@castfromhp> And Dan opens the door for you two. It opens up into a large glass tunnel, clearly underwater. The door frame glows slightly.
  175. [23:55:29] <Siyao> Siyao grabs Addy by the hand (the one without the lollipop) and steps through the glowing portal.
  176. [23:55:55] <@castfromhp> You step through and the door closes behind you, disappearing into empty space as it does so. Alertness checks.

  181. [23:59:20] <@castfromhp> Siyao notices a large serpentine shadow lurching from the waters toward the glass tunnel behind them.
