very loosely based on le grand cahier (LGC).

twins: charlotte & dj are twins. they don't look alike. When people hear they are twins they alwys say 'you don't look alike'. in LGH they are boys, so they can dress slightly boyish, for example with a guy's black coat that is too big?


world: outside there is a cold, a winter cold. the cold makes people forget their identity. Everyone is an expat but they forgot how they came to brussels and what nationality they are. Some remember arriving on a boat on the canal but they dont remember where from. People are scared to forget more, to forget their name and who are and who they love etc. People are short on food and other things.

the twins: teach themselves to forget and to live without identity. This makes them tough and unafraid and to survive well in this setting..  The twins live in their grandma's bar.

the twins talk in very short , simple sentences. They make themselves forget all the but the simple words

the dialogs have a lot of silences

The bar: They dont serve beer in the bar, only milk. People used to come to the bar for the warmth and the beer, but there is no more beer and it is not that warm in the bar anymore. People walk into the bar and dont remember why they entered.

People come to talk to the twins because they seem to know about forgetting. People talk to them hoping to stop forgetting stuff

grandma/granddad: She complains a lot. She remembers:
-people used to come to drink beer, they used to enjoy forgetting
-people came to laugh and forget about their sorrows.
-the bar used to be warm and fun.
She complains about how things were better back then, but she refuses to answer the questions of the twins about it or about how things changed. After  a while the twins stop asking and caring, they teach themselves to forget as much as possible to become tough and to survive.

grandma says things like... yes its cold, drink your milk and shut up

grandma drugs the milk to make people come back. they dont know it is drugged. the customers dont know why they are coming back. The twins know this and dont drink the milk

people who enter the bar pay money, so grandma has some money for food etc, but grandma refuses to buy a lot of food for the twins (her grandkids)


the milk: where does it come from?

Grandma orders the twins to wash the glasses etc. otherwise they dont get food.


the twins: whenever people remember something, or something happens in the city, the twins go there to erase the memories and to make sure people forget. they go to talk to the people and spread confusion and doubt until people are unsure what really happened. for example: a guy arrived from france. they ask them if they are really sure he is from framce because they dont know what french sounds like
