- A) No one ever put a gun on someone’s had and told them: Now you buy and android or I blow your brains off.
- > People have a choice
- B) People buy android because they fit the combination of needs and requirements.
- > Elements such as prices, colors, carriers, widgets, removable battery (=long device life), removable storage, brand, operating system preference, recomendations from friends and family.
- EXAMPLE: my mum is about to ditch her iphone for an android, she grew tired of lack of widgets, the battery life, the ecosystem in general and she is certainly not ready to pay twice as much for soemthing that looks marginally better and has a bigger brand name than a Samsung.
- C) Every reports about android malware comes from people selling malware solutions. The reliability of this source is equivalent to having pharmaceutical groups reporting on diseases…
- D) The Play store is malware controlled. Apple store also had “exceptions” malwares that were not spotted right from the get go.
- E) about 99% of the malware reported is located in Southeast Asia and Russian Federation territory. That is because people in those regions are used to piracy and do not want (or cannot) pay for apps. Because Android provides the ability to sideload application, tons of black markets exist providing hacked android applications for free (but bundled with malware).
- F) Yes, Android allows to sideload applications. In my humble opinion, this is a plus and not a minus. If I buy a computer, I want to have the ability to install whatever I want even if this is not in the line of the company that sold me the phone.
- G) Apple rejected apps from Pulitzer winners because they “did not like the political tone” of the app. It’s only because of the public outrage that they turned their decision. I do not trust a corporation to make better choice for me than I would myself.
- H) This is a real issue, imagine if Apple stores in some repressive regime would start limiting apps based on local censorship. That means that your pocket apple computer would never be able to run anything that does not please the state.
- I) Android provides the ability to side load applications, BUT:
- > This sideloading is not activated by default and before you activate it you have to read and accept a warning message
- > Everytime you sideload an application, you first get the warning message again and then the list of all abilities the apps will request permission for and you have to accept it again.
- J) If people are too stupid to:
- > Stick with installing apps from a secure source (play store or amazon)
- > Blindly accepting instead of reading warning messages
- > Blindly installing apps from unsecure sources without reading which abilities this apps request permission for
- THen this people deserve what is happening to them. Just like the law: stupidity or ignorance is no excuse.
- If you are too much of an idiot to follow simple rules or even “read” then you don’t deserve a pocket computer that makes calls. If you still have more money than sense, you can buy an iphone and be babysitted by Apple.
- But at least, consumers have a choice. Those who value superb design, utter simplicity of use and homogeneity of ecosystem over price, choice, personalization, functionalities can very well go with the Iphone. But as it tunrs out, despite its huge advance on the market place, Apple has fallen behind in terms of marketshare (but certainly not profits)
- Thank you for your time.
