Transgender people, as lumped population, have a 41% rate of attempted suicide. Completed suicide is much rarer. Compare to the American population, which attempts suicide at a 4% rate more or less. This is NOT the same as suicide, which only a very small minority commit.

In various statistically incorrect ways, /pol/acks often attempt to demonstrate that this transsexual suicide rate is not lowered by various transsexual treatments. For example, they will cite a survey measuring post-op transsexuals attempted suicide rate directly, which will turn up similar numbers to non-op and pre-op transsexuals. However, it does not follow from this that the attempted suicide rate does not lower following the operation. The attempted suicides could have happened before the operation.

Therefore we must only look to studies who measure attempted rates *post-treatment*. Such study designs invariably turn up a attempted suicide rate much lower than 41%

Look to table 2. You will note in the far right side of the table, in the Suicide Attempt row, the two time periods have an average suicide attempt hazard ratio of 5.0. The Swedish population attempts suicide at a 4% rate as well, thus 20% of these transsexuals attempted suicide. 8% attempted suicide in the second time period.
