- Even before *recent Nokia acquisition by Microsoft*, Maemo and Meego users had had hard time figuring out what's the future of their beloved platforms. In the meantime, another GNU/Linux-phone fan group, the Openmoko community, has tried to give their platform a new life with *OpenPhoenux GTA04 project*, selling around 300 upgrade kits for dated *Openmoko Neo Freerunner phones*.
- Now both of them join their efforts to achieve a common dream: a proper successor for both Neo Freerunner and Nokia N900, and spawning the Neo900 project. Community hopes to produce at least 200 highly-hackable, free phones with full hardware documentation for 700 EUR and port Maemo 5, as well as few other distributions, to it.
