[2:01 PM] raven: They get ridiculous power in exchange for something they need

[2:01 PM] raven: Basically when all was said and done, Caim and his dragon pact partner angelus was transported to Tokyo circa 2001

[2:02 PM] raven: To which angelus countered with her own song

[2:03 PM] raven: Then they'd turn to salt
[2:03 PM] raven: Japan was quarantined
[2:03 PM] raven: America nuked Japan
[2:04 PM] raven: Because they were afraid that the disease would spread
[2:04 PM] raven: This naturally caused the disease to spread

[2:04 PM] raven: The gestalt project was founded and it detached people's souls from their body

[2:04 PM] raven: And they would hide them and then make replicants who were soulless vessels
[2:05 PM] raven: That would "live" until the disease was finished
[2:05 PM] raven: Then they'd merge the gestalts into the replicants

[2:05 PM] raven: The issue was that some of the gestalts relapsed and went crazy
[2:05 PM] raven: Because their corresponding replicants gained sentience

[2:06 PM] raven: And the plot of nier is that Nier is the replicant of the shadow lord
[2:06 PM] available | shezzy: but it was just imcompatible?

[2:06 PM] available | shezzy: 2 people
[2:06 PM] available | shezzy: by that point
[2:06 PM] raven: And his daughter is the shadow lord's replicant
[2:06 PM] raven: If I'm recalling right
[2:06 PM] raven: It's more that they gained sentience and fought back
[2:06 PM] raven: And some of the gestalts went berserk

[2:06 PM] raven: They were known to the replicants as shades
[2:07 PM] raven: And the gestalts don't speak the same language as the gestalts
[2:07 PM] raven: A major part of nier is fighting and killing shades
[2:07 PM] raven: Because they're dangerous
[2:07 PM] raven: But in subsequent playthroughs you learn that not all of them are dangerous
[2:07 PM] raven: There's actually a scene where they take on a temporary human form
[2:08 PM] raven: Then one goes crazy
[2:08 PM] raven: And you fight them and the whole village goes crazy and reveals they're shades
[2:08 PM] raven: And nier slaughters them because they have a fight or flight instinct against the shades
[2:08 PM] raven: Because they keep trying to invade the village

[2:09 PM] raven: Who is Nier's gestalt
[2:10 PM] raven: Who is also trying to revive his daughter who fell deathly ill
[2:10 PM] raven: By placing her in her replicants body

[2:10 PM] raven: Where you play as the original Nier
[2:10 PM] raven: Before his soul was detached

[2:11 PM] raven: Who is protecting his daughter from relapsed shades

[2:11 PM] raven: It's actually a very well crafted story

[2:11 PM] raven: The gameplay is so shit
[2:11 PM] raven: He's basically the head shade
[2:11 PM] raven: And he becomes relevant halfway in when he kidnaps yonah
[2:11 PM] available | shezzy: so nier's the bad guy, but his replicant wouldn't really know that
[2:12 PM] raven: But he's also the guy you play as in the prologue
[2:12 PM] raven: The nier you play as is a replicant
[2:12 PM] raven: He thinks he's saving his daughter and protecting his village
[2:12 PM] raven: He doesn't know his actions will end humanity
