  1. The original post that Rachel submitted (albeit dramatically, she has a flair for that) states that our buff bot network was banned, and states that she is in the process of talks of getting the bans lifted. She suggests that if you support their un-banning, you can show your support by opening a chat window in the game itself, not in the forums. I carefully read the rules of the Warp Portal forums, and the petitioning rules seem to only apply to the forum itself, to prevent unnecessary 'bumping'. In the case that this thread does break a rule that I'm unaware of, then it should be locked regardless. Oda has seen this thread since it was created, and he did not lock it, so he judged that it did not break rules.

  4. So, I don't think you're correct on this particular matter. I can understand that you're upset that Fiolina (and other buff bots) existed and felt threatened or offended by it. Since you seem like in the mood to talk, let's give things a chance to open up constructive discourse.

  7. I contest your point that the bots served no purpose. Rachel and I are both very old Ragnarok players. I started playing around the Amatsu patch, and I think Rachel started even earlier than I. Back then, I played on iRO Sakray, because of some reason or other that I can't remember anymore (exp rates, i think?). The first thing that struck me about this game was that it had such a rich, friendly community. I fondly recall a memory of there being a semi-permanent settlement in the middle of the cross of the Glast Heim churchyard. In the middle of the cross was an assortment of acolytes and priests healing other players that went there to level on the undead. If a player was attacked by a Hunter Fly, they could fly wing to safety, and return to the middle to heal. Before Ragnarok, the only game I had played online was Tibia. It had an awful community, and I hated it. Ragnarok was like a dream for me.

  9. What does this have to do with Fiolina, and our buff scripts? Rachel and I haven't played the game like a 'game' in years, but we were still enamored by it. Initially, she set out to do the work herself, and I supplied characters for her to use. However, as I gained my stripes as a programmer, I began to help on that front as well. She and I both wanted to help people, and that was our only motivation to do so.

  11. Originally, we had grand plans. We wanted to change how people thought about bots. Botting for personal profit is not a problem unique to Ragnarok, but few games use a communication protocol that is quite as wide-open as Ragnarok's is. We saw this botting, and decided that outside of banning bots as they appear, without heavy modifications to the game, botting is NOT a solvable problem. And the changes required to the game to solve the problem of botting is not something that any GM can fix. These problems are deep, and to fix them, would require a complete overhaul of the game's internal code. This, to put it simply, is mostly impossible. Rachel and I debated over the topic, and came to the conclusion that the players should embrace botting for what it is, a tool. A tool that could potentially be used to help people. I'm ashamed to see that the precedent that we set has caused so much selfishness from others.

  13. No, the bots served a purpose. They failed at it.
