- Mod Sabre.
- Before I start, please do not take anything personally. I do not know how long you have been at JaGeX so I'm not judging you or any other individual staff. (Though Richard Murray should take my judgement personally.)
- As you should be aware, there are plenty of RuneScape Private Servers. The majority of these are based off the game of RuneScape between the era's of 2006 to about 2009/10.
- Why?
- Well, as anybody with half a brain who has played RuneScape before 2008 would say, it was a MUCH better game. In terms of JaGex, they were not a greedy, monetary value orientated company. To deny this for the current climax of JaGeX is pure stupidity and anybody who says so should be ashamed in their lack of awareness and intelligence. Successful RSPS's are created by generally clever individuals, who take the game back to basics; they take the game back to the simpleness that made the RS so great at that time. The games obviously attracts a lot of players. Usually, these players are players who have quit RuneScape, almost all due to silly, money seeking updates that target the aged 10 children who play. (Even though the game is supposed to be a 14+ game, you know that's not the case.) These players who have quit do not wish to play RuneScape again, which is obvious in the fact that so many people give away their banks before they quit. Yes, lots of players that "quit" do log on their accounts. This includes myself, just to keep them active encase JaGex ever come to their senses and admit their wrong.
- So what's the problem with RSPS's?
- Well, I'm sure the obvious one to come to mind is the breach of any laws, usually copyright laws.
- I understand that JaGeX do not want people playing replicated games, free of charge, however why should this include any outdated game? Any RSPS's using an up-to-date game frame should be taken down, I completely agree with this. Why though, target outdated games? It's like BlackBerry releasing a brand new phone, then suing someone because they gave away the technology behind the BlackBerry 850. I'm going to assume you're thinking to yourself "but JaGeX is losing out on potential profits!" Okay, yes, I admit that. A TINY percentage of RSPS players may go back to RuneScape if their RSPS is shut down by Jagex. In fact, most players will just simply move on to another RSPS, which does nothing but delay JaGeX's "problem".
- It's obvious to anybody that A LOT of RuneScape "players" are just either bots or GP slaves, to sell RSGP onto sites such as gold4rs and what not. Money and greed has ruined the game, to a point where everything is made into some form of propaganda for membership. I noted that there's now a "suggest a friend for free membership" schemes, how wonderfully fantastic on the part of the advertisement section. Greed. Ignore the roots of the game, add more greed.
- Speaking on behalf of any players who started in Rs Classic, or at the start of RS2, we are dissapointed in how fame has corrupted RS.
- Recently, many of the current big RSPS's have been targeted in some form of RSPS Crackdown.
- Arrav, Near Reality, and closer to my heart, PwnXile.
- Arrav.com is now a redirection to runescape.com. As players go there to play the original RS they desire, they are greeted by a wave of dissapointment; JaGeX have yet again ruined their enjoyment.
- Near Reality, another big server, now reduced to little more than another gaming forum.
- 06Scape.com Hugely promising, thousands and thousands eager to play, wasted.
- PwnXile, once led MMORPG and RuneLocus RSPS Top lists. Near the end we'd be lucky to hit 80 players at peak times. This harmed you, did it?
- When Andrew and Paul Gower first set out their mission to create a game, did they know it would turn out to be one of the worlds biggest games, with over 175 MILLION players as of 2010, to have JaGeX as an award-winning company? No. Do you think they would want the company to still have the same origins and beliefs in community as it did back when RS was most popular? Most definitely. Runescape is not the same as it was. Updates have been for the most part, ruining, and young children who shouldn't even be playing have steered the game towards ruin. Little, 9 year old children are quite clearly your intended market, look at the TV advertisements Runescape has, shambolic and quite frankly, as much as I have a distaste for the insult gay, it truly is. Runescape has millions of members, each paying a monthly sum towards a company that does little but care for it's business, and not for the players who made it what it is.
- What should be done?
- I'm not suggesting RS as a whole should be converted back to how it was in 06/7, but, much like the re-release of RSClassic, an original RS2 should be re-released. Hell, make it P2P if you want to earn money. Save yourself the hassle of fighting a losing battle against the forever stemming RSPS's, and create your own. You don't have to update it yourself, hand pick a couple of the top 2006-8 based RSPS's owners and let them run it as their own team. They would probably do it for a very cheap "wage", and it would make literally everyone happy.
- I'm aware of some person near the top of Jagex claiming that they will never re-release RS2 as it should be, and quite frankly, whoever he is, he's an idiot. He obviously has no passion for the game nor it's roots, nor it's players.
- Quite frankly, I'm just annoyed that such a good game can be changed so drastically to target those who haven't hit puberty to create the most money possible.
- I know I may of repeated things, but it's to emphasize my point.
- Don't be a fool and believe that these are only my views.
- Look at the hundreds of thousands of players who play RSPS's, and the millions more that quit RS.
- I'm sending this to you, Mod Sabre, since you have replied to me. Many, many other mods simply ignore those who show them any sort of realistic view that comes from someone over the age of 10 (which is going to be the average age of RS players). Maybe, you can pass this around, maybe, other mods will agree. Maybe in half a years time, I'll be seeing the re-release of the best RS2. I doubt it though, I'm sure many developers will be thinking that they've made a great, hugely successful game. Nope, they've ruined one.
- Thanks for reading if you did infact bother to do so.
