  1. Oblivion Speedrunning FAQ:
  2. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  3.
  4. What does OoB mean?:
  5. "Out-of-Bounds", meaning that "no oob" is a rule saying we must stay inbounds and not clip through things. The run that uses OoB(any%) beats the game in about 4 minutes.
  6.
  7. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  8.
  9. What class do you use?:
  10. We use a High Elf female because they are the tallest and the taller you are the faster you are(I have no idea why, I assume it's their long strides). We also choose The Steed sign for the speed upgrade and either Scout or Nightblade as classes because they both have Acrobatics, Athletics, and Speed attribute bonuses.
  11.
  12. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  13.
  14. Why are you hitting the NPC's?:
  15. They need to stand in certain locations to hit triggers that activate future events in the game, so if we hit them and agro them they will chase me. We lead them to said triggers and then we yield so they behave themselves.
  16.
  17. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  18.
  19. What difficulty is this?:
  20. The lowest difficulty possible. Trust me, the difficulty isn't the hard part of the run, it's the movement, text, menu navigation, and precise timing on multiple occasions. The difficulty being very low is much faster because enemies will die sooner, letting us beat the game sooner.
  21.
  22. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  23.
  24. Duplication with arrows(v1.0 only):
  25. Do some sort of fighting action such as punching, drawing a bow, swinging a sword, etc.. Now, go into your inventory during the animation and unequip the arrows. Next, drop whichever item you wish to duplicate and exit the inventory. This will not work on certain larger items like most armor or weapons. Also, the number of arrows you have equipped corresponds to the number of items you will dupe, and duping something like 500+ items can crash your game.
  26.
  27. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  28.
  29. Duplication with scrolls:
  30. This duplication glitch will still work even after installing the version 1.2 patch
  31.
  32. 1) Acquire two or more copies of the same scroll. The number of identical scrolls that you have will determine the number of duplicate items you can create.
  33. 2) Open your inventory.
  34. 3) Highlight the stack of scrolls and select them once.
  35. 4) Highlight (but do not equip/use) an item (either single or a stack) that you wish to duplicate, and drop it.
  36. 5) Close your inventory and on the floor will be multiple copies of the item that you dropped.
  37.
  38. Acquiring a large number of identical scrolls can be difficult. However, as long as you can find two identical scrolls to start with, you can initially use the exploit to repeatedly duplicate scrolls. Once you have a large number of duplicated scrolls, you can then start duplicating other items. When the duped scrolls are on the ground, pick up one scroll and repeat the process.
  39.
  40. This is useful for duping arrows as you will need a large number of scrolls to dupe arrows. When duping arrows, it may be helpful to drop all the arrows that you want to be duped except for one. This may seem counter-intuitive but they will build up faster that way.(Example: With 33 scrolls and three arrows duped you will get 11 arrows on the ground, because 33/3=11. But with one arrow duped you will get 33, because 33/1=33.) Just like you did with the scroll duping process describe above, pick up one arrow and repeat.
  41.
  42. Duplication of stacks of items works best if the number of scrolls is an exact multiple of the number of to-be-duplicated items in your stack. So 33 scrolls can be used to duplicate 11 rings (creating 3 "items" on the ground, each containing a stack of 11 rings). 1000 scrolls can also be used to duplicate 100 potions (creating 10 "items" on the ground, each with 100 potions). Using stacks can be much more effective when duplicating large numbers of items, in particular because it reduces the number of individual items on the ground, preventing game lag problems.
  43. Nirnroot, stolen items, quest items, and items repaired or damaged at all will not duplicate.
  44.
  45. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  46.
  47. Why does duping work?:
  48. Dude we don't know...
  49.
  50. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  51.
  52. Why do you go into the menu to use Skooma? Why not use it from the Hotbar?:
  53. I actually do use it from the hotbar, I just use some from the menu too. You can only have 5 potions at a time, so we have 4 from the hotbar and 4 from the inventory to have 8 Skooma active at once, bypassing the limit of 5. If I'm traveling a short distance, I'll only use 5 from the hotbar.
  54.
  55. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  56.
  57. How are you jumping so high?
  58. Those are called Skooma Jumps. Immediately after ascending, if you bounce off an object the right way, you will ricochet and transfer all that speed to the new angle you are going. This works without Skooma, but is far less effective or noticeable.
  59.
  60. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  61.
  62. Why are you making save files? How does the "Load Warp" work?:
  63. If you load a save file at the same time as entering (most) locations via doorways, the character (along with their stats, inventory, quest history, etc.) that you load will be the one that goes through the doorway. This way we can save traveling time by foot. For instance: you can grab the stone in Miscarcand and instead of walking out you can quicksave, then load an earlier save outside Weynon Priory. Then, as you enter the main Weynon Priory building from that save file, just pause the game and load the quicksave from inside of Miscarcand. You will then be inside the Weynon Priory building with the character that finished Miscarcand.
  64.
  65. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  66.
  67. Why do you get the Umbra/Masque of Clavicus Vile?:
  68. We gotta give Martin a legitimate Deadric item from a daedric quest, that Masque is the quickest one. Umbra isn't a genuine daedric item, but we can sequence break the Clavicus Vile quest with it, thus giving us a real daedric item.
  69.
  70. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  71.
  72. What's that flashing that you do before fast travelling? Quicksave/Quickloading?:
  73. If you save and then load, HOPEFULLY the enemy agro from the map you were just in will be de-agroed, allowing us to fast travel.
  74.
  75. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  76.
  77. Why are you sitting down and making save files?:
  78. If you Load Warp a character who is sitting down, the XYZ coordinates of that character will also carry over. This can be used to skip portions of indoor rooms.
  79.
  80. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  81.
  82. Why are you killing that Lich in Miscarcand? What do you want from it?:
  83. We are looking for a staff that does an explosion, which lets us skip Sancre Tor and get the Armor of Tiber Septim immediately. There are ~25 different staffs that drop, and 5 of them are good for the run. Fireball, Conflagration, Thunderbolts, Storms, and Sickness.
  84.
  85. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  86.
  87. Why do you keep resetting?
  88. Trust me, there is little room for error when playing at a top level. Common reset points are the rat wall, AI misbehaving, staff farming, and dying(of course).
