  2. Snow knocked her of her paws, slashing his claws on every part of her he could reach. He wasn't sure if he was even making contact anymore but soon enough she was limp. Thyme was already trying to pack frozen water into Ice's wound to stop the bleeding. It obviously wasn't working and her gentle orange paws were quickly being covered with blood. Snow ran over to her, looking down at their leader. He had run the tribe since before he was even kitted. It seemed wrong for him to die because of the pettiness of one cat.
  3. Snow swallowed hard, moving his muzzle near Ice's so that the older cat could hear him better. "I'm sorry. It's my fault." He whimpered, burying his nose into the senior cat's fur.
  4.
  5. Their Leader of many seasons did not respond, he was too far gone. He died later in the evening. Thyme did everything she could, but supplies were scarce this far into winter and Ice was much too old and weak to survive such a vicious wound.
  6. Thyme sat in her den, herbs scattered around; bloody paw-prints going to and fro across the floor. She stared blankly at the wall, wondering what she could've done, should of done how Ice could be alive now. How she had failed them. It wasn't that long ago that her mentor, Rosemary had died. She felt so guilty and hopeless. Everyone would hate her now.
  7.
  8. Snow paced back and forth, sometimes watching the seniors preparing to bury Ice. His mind rushed and he found himself unable to focus on any one thing for too long. He couldn't speak to their ancestors for advice on how to lead. He didn't know what to do. The only other cat he had known that would be able to help him was Rosemary and she had died a moon ago.
  9.
  10. Rain's body rested outside of camp, snow kicked over it bitterly leaving just a few splotches of her tabby fur sticking out of the pure white. She felt a kind of a peace, now that she was dead. It wasn't so bad there were a few other cats like her in the dead-world.
  11.
  12. In the clearing the tribe was gathered, all of them sharing ideas and grief. Many were too shocked to think straight. The mumbled around, asking others to make sure that Ice had actually been killed. It had been generations since a cat had killed another...
  13. Everyone was in shock, it had been generations since a cat had killed another, let alone one from their own tribe.
  14.
  15. "Attention!" Snow called to the tribe attempting to bring them together. Thyme stood next to him; her head tilted forward slightly so that the morning sun shone on her ginger muzzle brightly. Next to her Rock, Snow's appointed vice-chief stood, his grey fur seeming very tight on his muscular frame. He seemed to scan the crowd, his fluffy head moving left and right slowly.
  16. A few of the cats broke from their daze to face their new leader. They all looked apprehensive, if he hadn't spoken to their ancestors then he wasn't a real leader. It was just an arbitrary title.
  17.
  18. "I know this is very hard for all of us. The betrayal of our clan by Rain, the death of our leader, but do not worry I am here for all of you. I consider all of you my brothers and sisters-"He glanced to Thyme giving her a coy look, "I want you to know that I have full faith in all of you. The weight for all of us to bear. If any of you have a problem with anything I want you to come and talk to me or Thyme. That is all." Snow stepped away, quickly trotting inside of the leader's den.
  19.
  20. Thyme watched dejectedly as Snow padded back into the dark of the leader's den. Secretly she wished he had spoken to her before given his speech or invited her to talk about what to do next. She wasn't just a healer she had acted as Ice's advisor after her mentor died.
  21. It smelled like sickness and misery in the den. Snow hated it, he didn't want to end up like Ice had. Murdered by one of his own clan-mantes. The thought terrified him. He rested his head on his paws, shaking slightly.
  22. Eventually his need for sleep won over him and he passed out.
  23.
  24. Rock sat on his hind paws outside the leader's den, making note that Thyme was lingering outside. He wasn't particular trusting of the other members of the tribe. Every cat in the tribe was confused and scared, it wouldn't be surprising to him if they tried to overthrow the new leader. He had seen it happen many times in his life, they took a vote and that was it, nothing to it.
