- “the” means it’s specific. Both the speaker and the listener know which one you’re talking about.
- “the other student” means there’s only one other student, and that’s who we’re talking about.
- “the other students” means we’re talking about all the rest, not some subgroup of them.
- “another” and “some others” means you don’t know which ones I’m talking about, because I’m not talking about all the rest.
