  1. HIM: I don't mean to start a GG flame war or anything here, but I've been staunchly anti-GG since the beginning and I feel the need to share my piece.
  2.
  3. GG began when a man named Eron Gjoni posted an 8000 word rant against his ex-girlfriend, claiming she slept with games journalists to get good reviews. These allegations were extremely false, but she is a feminist and an indie game developer and for whatever reason the allegations would not go away. Actor Adam Baldwin created the GamerGate hashtag specifically to target her, once again, despite the fact that she did nothing wrong of public interest.
  4.
  5. In the past month, GG has tried to pretend that Zoe Quinn never mattered and this has been about games journalism since the beginning. There are some issues with games journalism that need addressing, but GG is not doing that. Some of the things they advocate for are actually unethical from a journalistic standpoint, such as the idea that publications should alter their editorial stance on something if their audience doesn't like it. And of course, women are fleeing the games industry right now, specifically because of GG and the people who claim to be a part of it.
  6.
  7. This article sites sources for everything I've said. Once again, I really don't want to step on anyone's feelings here, people obviously care very much about this. But I think GG is misguided and ignorant at best, and yes, an internet lynch mob against women at worst.
  8.
  9. SUNNY: I'd like to address your post
  10.
  11. Eron Gjoni posted a rant against Zoe Quinn. This was the spark the ignited GG. With that in mind, the notion that GG is about Zoe Quinn is false. The Zoe Quinn incident was the catalyst for GamerGate because of the allegations posed against her regarding her relationship with members of games media publications. These allegations led to further investigation into ethical breaches by these gaming media outlets.
  12.
  13. The notion that GG is not addressing issues in games journalism is also wrong. I would direct you to the subreddit /r/KotakuInAction or the GG git repository I'll link at the bottom of this reply. Read through the literature on the git repo and all of the threads/comments on KIA. There are people who are concerned about corruption in the games media. They are being wrongly mislabeled as misogynistic when they want nothing more than an open dialogue about the issues they have with nepotism, cronyism, and agenda-driven journalism. They are tired of being told that they are bad people for liking game. They do not want artists' works to be censored or altered just because it doesn't appeal to certain people.
  14.
  15. #GamerGate is approaching 2 million tweets. KIA has over fifteen thousand subscribers. This has been going on for months. Men and women of many ethnicities, sexualities and creeds all fervently support this movement.

  17. Regarding that rationalwiki article, you can recognize the bias fairly easily. A few points:
  18.
  19. For starters, it paints Christina Hoff Sommers as a right-winger in this except: "Several commentators of conservative and libertarian persuasion chose to throw their support behind the Gamergate controversy. Christina Hoff Sommers of the conservative think tank the American Enterprise Institute released a video on YouTube which dismissed the existence of sexism in games and gaming culture." This is misleading. Christina Hoff Sommers is a registered democrat. Furthermore, it is implying that there is something inherently wrong with being conservative or libertarian. It perpetuates the notion that people have an "incorrect" political view just because it isn't theirs. It is an ad hominem attack that has no place in an article that attempts to be objective.
  20.
  21. Secondly, it wrongly dismisses the situation regarding TYFC. It plays off the hand ZQ had in the doxxing and DDOSing of an organization that did nothing but try to further women in gaming and donate proceeds to charity. You can read in TYFC's own words about ZQ's hand in the attempted dismantling of the campaign at the APGNation link at the bottom. The rationalwiki page also fails to mention that #GamerGate saved TYFC's game and contributed upwards to seventy thousand dollars to ensure that the campaign was funded. Donating thousands of dollars out of their own pockets to help further women in gaming is not something a horde of misogynists would do. Notably, the gaming press refused to cover that.
  22.
  23. Thirdly, and forgive if I just happened to miss it, but I saw absolutely no mention of the "GameJournosPro" secret mailing list on that rationalwiki page. This is major evidence of collusion between various game journalists on major publications. They used this private mailing list to determine amongst themselves what should and shouldn't be reported on across all games journalism websites. Such a mailing list is a direct breach of journalistic integrity and ethics. You can read more about the GameJournosPro mailing list at the realgamernewz link posted at the bottom of this reply.
