  20. After the second world war, Bonn became the capital of West Germany. (1949)
  21. It was in the british zone of occupation.

Bonn was chosen as the capital by the Bundeskanzler, Konrad Adenauer ( the first chancellor In the controversial selection for a "provisional capital" of the Federal Republic of Germany, Adenauer championed Bonn over Frankfurt am Main. The British had agreed to detach Bonn from their zone of occupation and convert the area to an autonomous region wholly under German sovereignty; the Americans were not prepared to grant the same for Frankfurt.

  24. Many politicians at the time , adenauer included, didnt want to have the capital in a major city like Hamburg or Frankfurt because they thought that would imply that it would be a permanent capital. They wanted Germany to be reunified and for Berlin to be the capital again.

Many thought that the new Germany shouldn't have Berlin as its capital (or at least leaving the seat of the government in Bonn) because of its links to Nazi Germany and the weimarer republic, and the closeness of Bonn to Brussels, which is to say the EU, would have made it a convenient location for a capital.
