Cryxian Necromancers lost one of many Cortextes that was planned for use in a plot in the north.

One of these cortexes were found by Warr Ormod, a former member of the Golden Crucible.
He stored the Cortex in a box, got a Arcanist to cast a protection spell on it to make sure its power wouldn't affect people around it.
then he marked the box with "miscellaneous surplus" to make it less suspicious.
The box was supposed to be destroyed but ended up in the hands of mercenaries,
who tried to deliver it to Cert Aletan but he was dead,
so they agreed with a contact to get the box sendt to Corvis for destruction instead.

The box arrived safely in corvis and was delivered to the alchemist Jorvis Torm.
But was liberated from him when some river pirates broke in, killed Torm and ran away with the box.

The pirates made a deal to hand the box over to a necromancer but was attacked by a local mercenary charter, who also was interessted in the box. The charter made quick work of the riverpirates  and desided to bring the box with them, rather the Nyss, who saw this Cortex as corrupt swore that it had to be destroyed and wouldn't part with it untill it was.

Irony has it... that the Nyss brought it with them to investigate an event at Fort Ryker, when they were captured by cryxian necromancers and they got the Cortex back, and in perfect timing for their plot also.

The Cortex were fitted in a Khadoran Juggernaut and sendt to the frontlines to cause massive havoc to both the Khadoran and the Cygnaran army, weakening both sides in favor of the Cryxian army.
