>You and the other ponies exchange worried glances.
>The hotel room is completely silent.
>Applejack creeps over to the open door and looks around the corner.
>Suddenly a deafening barrage of magical lasers shoot through the doorway, narrowly missing Applejack's head.
>Twilight reacts quickly.
>She levitates Pinkie out of the bed, then turns and, on the spur of the moment, charges at you.
>Twilight hits you hard and you stumble backwards and fall out the open window, followed by Twilight, Pinkie, and Applejack.
>The fall towards the ground is short, but just before you impact the road a bright light envelops you.
>You're lying face down on wet cobblestone.
>Twilight has teleported you all safely to a different part of the city.
>"Is everyone okay?" she asks.
>You get to your feet.
>"Yep!"
>"Just fine."
"I'm okay."
>"we're only about a block away from the hotel. I can get us further, but after that I'll be too tired to teleport."
>Without warning, there is another white flash.
>You're somewhere else now.
>The disorientation is making you sick.
>"Now we have to go on foot. Quickly!"
>Twilight lifts Pinkie Pie in a magical glowing aura and runs.
>Before you have time to think you're struggling to keep up with them.
>Some Manehattanites give you strange looks as you pass by, but most ignore you.

>You all stop to catch your breath when you've put a few more blocks between you and the attackers.
>"I can't believe they followed us here!" cries Twilight as it starts to rain.
>Applejack is looking at the surrounding buildings excitedly.
>"My Aunt and Uncle live right over here!" she exclaims, "We can stay with them until it's safe to leave."

>Soon you have arrived outside 'Aunt and Uncle Orange's apartment door.
>Pinkie is walking on her own now.
>You knock.
>"I haven't seen them in ages!" Applejack says.
>You knock again.
>No answer.
>"Maybe they're not home..." says Pinkie.
>Twilight looks around nervously.
>"For pony's sake!" She bangs hard on the door. "Hello?!"
>You try the doorknob; It's unlocked.
>Cautiously, you push the door open.

>The apartment is a complete mess.
>It looks abandoned.
>Evidently, someone has been here to take everything of value.
>You can see Applejack is clearly distressed, so you give her a hug.
"Don't worry about your Aunt and Uncle, Applejack. I'm sure they're fine. They probably left to go somewhere safer until the princesses are found."
>"Thanks, Anon."

>"Okay, we really need to get some sleep," says Twilight. "We'll take turns staying awake to keep an eye out for danger. Pinkie, you need rest more than any of us, so you don't have to keep watch. The rest of us should stay awake in two hour shifts. That will give each of us about four hours of sleep. Anon, do you mind taking the first shift?"
>Adrenaline is still pumping through your veins.
"No, I don't mind. I don't think I could sleep right now if I tried."
>You decide Pinkie and Applejack deserve the beds in the other rooms, and you and Twilight will sleep on the couches in the main room.
>You say goodnight, and the ponies get into bed.

>"Anon," says Twilight a few minutes later. "I can't sleep."
"I'd be surprised if anyone could sleep an hour after jumping out a window."
>She laughs
"Thank you, by the way. You saved us all back there."
>"I'm not a stranger to stressful situations. Still, I think that's the first time my choices when panicking have been good ones." She giggles. "I once had the entire population of Ponyville fighting over a doll so I could get a friendship report in on time!"
"Haha, what?"
>"That must sound ridiculous out of context. I was trying to create a friendship problem..."
>Twilight stays up for a while telling you stories of her adventures.
>She also tells you about her life, her brother, and her friends back home.
>Eventually she falls asleep with her head propped up on her hoof and her mouth wide open.
>God, that's cute.
>The next hour and a half pass without incident.
>You pass the time by going over the past few days' events in your head.
>You can't stop thinking about the voice you heard before you came to Equestria.
>It sounded completely neutral, yet terrifying.
>You feel guilty waking Twilight when her turn comes, but you're fucking drained.
>You try to stay up with her, but fall asleep almost immediately.

>That night you have a dream.
>You're looking up at the stars.
>Something about them is very unsettling.
>A massive red sun hangs in the sky.
>The land around you is dark and rocky.
>Lifeless.
>You feel like your being watched.


>"Anon. Wake up!"
"Huh? What's wrong?"
>"Everythin' is fine, but we don't have time to sleep in."
>It's Applejack.
>"We can't wait around for them to find us."
"Okay, I'm up."
>Applejack wants you to start on breakfast while she wakes Twi and Pinkie.
>You look through her saddlebag and discover eggs, bread, and some fruits and vegetables.
>Thanks to years of experience, you cook the eggs and toast perfectly.
>You set the table as the three ponies enter, rubbing sleep from their eyes.
>"Oh, wow, Anon! That smells delicious!" Pinkie tells you enthusiastically.
>Twi and Applejack nod in agreement.
>The four of you sit down to enjoy breakfast
>They finish everything quickly and you receive many complements from your pony friends.

>"Is everyp0ny ready to go now?" asks Applejack "I don't want to spend too much time waitin' around here."
>You depart as soon as your prepared

>You're soon leaving the city of Manehattan and seeing the rural areas of Equestria for the first time.
>Perhaps your eyes are playing tricks on you in the dim light, but the colors seem very different from on Earth.
>The grass and trees seem so bright and vivid; you wish you could see them in the daylight.
>The air smells so clean and pure, the rivers look clear and drinkable.
>The moon continues to hang low in the sky, permanently unmoving.
>It's beautiful but sad.

"Is P0nyville far?"
>"'Bout a day's walk," replies Applejack. "It's an easy journey. I went to the city and back alone with no problems when I was just a little filly. I didn't even have my cutie mark yet!"
>She looks with pride at the image of three apples on her flank.
>"That's a mark every p0ny gets that represents who they are or what their purpose is in life." She says in response to your inquisitive look.
"Your purpose is apples?"
>"Mah purpose is to continue the family tradition of runnin' the farm that the town of P0nyville was built around." She says proudly.
>"My special talent is to bring happiness to anyp0ny I meet!" says Pinkie. "Or any human."
>"And I'm meant to study magic and discover it's full potential!" says Twilight.
"Aren't you studying friendship?"
>"Same thing."
>"Don't humans have cutie marks?" asks Pinkie.
"No. And as far as I know we don't have any purpose in life, either."
>Pinkie puts her arm around you.
>"I think you're wrong, Anon," She smiles at you. "You do have a purpose!"
"What makes you say that?"
>"Idunno!" Pinkie bounces off ahead of you in the moonlight.
