  1. Welcome to the /ecg/ FAQ. This document is designed to give players new to Eternal Crusade a brief run down of the mechanics and need-to-know information in the game. More than likely these questions will be expanded upon, and new ones added, as the life of the game continues. I'm trying to keep these answers as universal as possible, but I main Chaos (as you should) and so can't really comment on Ork or Eldar mechanics.

  4. >>> STORE <<<
  5.
  6. >What should I spend my Requisition points on?
  7.
  8. Req points should be spent initially on the Meltagun and Lascannon if you are a CSM or LSM, for Eldar get a Reaper launcher and for Orks a Zzap gun, then focus on the drop crates in increasing price order. Begin with the 1k crates, then move to 5k, 12k, and lastly 30k. The only reason you should deviate from this pattern is if there's a basic weapon you want to use that is being sold in the store, as you'll usually end up spending less buying the item outright than if you tried to get lucky with a crate.
  9. NOTE: At some point I'll invest the time necessary to get a comprehensive list of crate drops.

  11. >What should I spend my Rogue Trader Coins on?
  12.
  13. RTC, being the premium currency that it is, can be spent on anything that your little shill self wants. In the store itself you're able to purchase premium weapons with the same stats (usually) as their regular counter-part but with additional mods attached. As of this writing there are a few (namely Abaddon's Grace) that have an additional effect making them an actual P2W weapon, but the goal of the devs is to have premium weapons no better or worse than the stock counterparts. RTC can also be spent on character cosmetics, offering not change in stats from default looks.

  16. >>> ADVANCEMENT <<<
  17.
  18. How do I earn advancement points?
  19.
  20. Advancement points are earned in any of the game modes whenever you earn XP. The rate is 1 AP for every 300 XP and from what I've read on the forums you actually will not be able to buy every single item in the advancement tree upon earning the maximum amount.
  21.
  22. What should I spend them on?
  23.
  24. Pick the class you think will be the most >fun, but don't forget to spread your points around to other classes and upgrades as well, as one trick ponies don't get very far in match.
  25.
  26.
  27. >>> CONTROLS <<<
  28.
  29. >How do I do X?
  30.
  31. I highly advise you familiarize yourself with all controls in the Garrison prior to hopping into any type of gamemode. Some important keybinds to remember are:
  32. 'M' to bring up a map overlay while you're spawned in game, tactically useful.
  33. 'T' to taunt, this plays a short voice clip (as a CSM try it with different marks equipped) and your character throws a small fit. I recommend using this liberally in and out of combat.
  34. 'Y' to bring up teamchat (in game) and all chat (post match). Don't forget to post "gg ez" after the match, regardless of whether you've won or lost.
  35. 'Q' (tap) in order to tag an enemy and give your friendlies an update on it's location and (hold) in order to mark a waypoint for you squad.
  36. 'V' for a quick comms menu.
  37. Note: there is an option in the controls menu to bind your defensive bash to a specific key. This is essentially vital as the poor framerate and netcode of the game means holding two mouse buttons down is not always registered properly.
  38.
  39. How does weapon bracing work?
  40.
  41. Weapon bracing is primarily a tool for heavy weapons classes, but can be used by anyone with a ranged weapon. Press the middle mouse button when up against a railing and your character will get a severe recoil decrease at the cost of being a very obvious target. At this point in the game some rails are bugged as shit and will not let you look down. Devs pls fix.
  42.
  43.
  44. >>> COMBAT <<<
  45.
  46. >How do melee duels work?
  47.
  48. There are three basic moves to melee in Eternal Crusade; the light attack, heavy attack, and defensive bash. When dueling with another player there is a rock-paper-scissors style to the combat, whereby light > heavy > d-bash > light... The player who plays the "winning" move will often stun the losing player, giving them a chance to escape, deal more damage, etc. This stun is based on stamina and weapon values that I can't be fucked to look up for the guide. Should both players execute a light attack at the same time (possibly also for heavy and d-bash but I've never seen it) they will "clang," meaning both weapons take a little damage based on their size and weight. Enough clangs and the smaller weapon breaks, resulting in a stun.
  49.
  50. >How do the melee weapon tiers work?
  51.
  52. Higher tiers beat lower tiers in terms of durability, the tiers are:
  53. Tier 0 - Knifes, Nartheciums, Painboy needles, knuckles.
  54. Tier 1 - Chainswords, Force Swords, Witchblades, and Power Swords
  55. Tier 2 - Power Mauls, Power Axes, Chain Axes and Force Axe
  56. Tier 3 - Power Fists
  57.
  58. >How do grenades work?
  59.
  60. Short answer? Badly.
  61. Basic anti-personnel grenades have very little killing power and you're better off skipping them as soon as possible. You should be using your faction's version of the Krak grenade if at all possible. They act as sticky bombs that will insta-kill a player who is close enough, and stun them if they are slightly farther away. If you are stuck by one you can roll to shake it off of you. Also, one not well known fact is that you can throw a grenade and shoot it yourself to ensure your enemy is standing in the kill radius.
  62.
  63. >How do I into vehicles?
  64.
  65. Vehicles drive according to your camera alignment, pressing forward causes the vehicle to drive (or attempt to turn) in the direction your camera is pointed. Holding shift gives your vehicle a boost which will need to replenish after a few seconds.
  66.
  67. >Using transport vehicles?
  68.
  69. These are essential to keeping your team on the offensive, if you're the driver it is recommended you remain in the vehicle to keep it safe from enemy AV troops by casually driving around the block while your friends spawn. They can be spawned from the respawn screen when it doesn't bug out, and replenish team-wide on a cooldown.
  70.
  71. >Using tanks?
  72.
  73. Absolutely DO NOT use a tank as your own personal transport. A tank with only one person in it removes any semblance of worth to the team. Ideally you should have a driver, a main gunner, and a secondary gunner for any other turrets your factions tank may have. Any more than that and you begin to take away from your team's capping power.
