+Je Suis Ce Que Je Suis __ Cats have been bred for a very long time, yet they don't go recklessly climbing to the ends of thin branches (except perhaps kittens when firemen are near, but they remain still and meow with distress). Giant pandas, by contrast, have only been bred for a few generations. My point is that their instincts should remain (such as the natural instinct to climb trees), but some "protective instincts" can be _overridden_ with the right training (and then smattering the delicious scent of treats at the ends of thin branches).

How so? Consider that many rats are caught in traps which induce them to overextend themselves for the promise of a delicious meal. So why couldn't the same principle be applied with giant pandas to capture footage of them falling to help draw in crowds? Giant pandas are actively monitored 24/7 by CCTV so every fall, every tumble, and every mouthful of bamboo is captured on film giving plenty of footage to create fascinating "highlight reels" from.

Certainly, their ridiculously cute appearance (could a more adorable animal have been "designed"?!) and low numbers is an integral part of their "must see" appeal, and a convenient way for people to accept their perilous behaviour is "just the way they are".
