Hot and Cold [PP/RD Short]

>The sun blazes down over Ponyville with an unrelenting heat.
>Even the swift wind under your wings brings little relief.
>Rising pockets of warm air lift you higher with ease and send shimmering waves across the landscape below.
>The air is stagnant since the winds are currently carrying rain to Canterlot.
>But Ponyville isn't due for a shower for a couple more days.
"I've got to get out of this..."
>You swoop low to land on one of the deserted streets in the shade of a nearby shop's awning.
>You flick your sweaty mane out of your eyes and lean against the wall panting.
>"OOH! Hi Rainbow Dash! What're you doing pushing up on that building? Is it gonna fall over? Don't worry I'll help!"
"Um, hi Pinkie. No, the building's fine. I'm just taking a little rest."
>Pinkie Pie stops pushing her forehead against the wall and looks over at you.
>"Aha! That makes MUCH more sense. You should be fine though. You gotta stay cool in this heat, and nopony's cooler than you!"
"Ha, yeah. Thanks, Pinkie Pie. What have you been up to?"
>She dances in a little circle showing off her excitement.
>"I was just out at the Rich Estate throwing an AWESOME pool party for a bunch of foals."
>You nod, that sounds like a lot of fun.
>"But even with the pool, water balloons, squirters, buckets, and hoses the poor little guys couldn't stay out under the sun for long."
"I'll bet. There's no cloudcover with resources going to Canterlot right now. It's rough."
>Pinkie nods sagely.
>"Exactly! The party started fun, but it ended up going nowhere FAST! SO, I rolled my eyes WAY back and asked myself, What would Pinkie Pie do?"
>She demonstrates the technique and falls over backward.
>"And so THEN I realized, if it's too hot just make it COOLER!"
>She sits back on her haunches with her forelegs crossed and a triumphant smile on her face.
"Um, Pinkie, changing the weather isn't exactly easy. And besides we can't until it comes up on the schedule."
>You're starting to think that your running into her wasn't exactly an accident.
>"Well, DUH. I know I can't change the weather! I'm not a pegasus, silly!"
"Hu-wha?"
>"If I can't make the Outside cooler I had to make their INSIDES cooler!"
>Your eyes widen with worry at the thought of what THAT could mean.
>You open your mouth against your better judgement to ask a question, but before a single sound can get out a bright pink hoof shoves a large cupcake covered in sapphire blue icing into your pie hole.
>The whole thing was COLD. Like ICE cold. A bold combination of cream, blueberry, and mint floods your senses.
>The airy, light cake acted as a vector spreading the cooling flavor through your whole mouth.
>A delightful shiver runs down your spine as you swallow and feel your core temperature drop a few degrees.
>A puff of crystalized air forms as you exhale in satisfaction.
>"Not too shabby, huh?"
"Wow, Pinkie. What even WAS that?"
>"Everypony was soooo hot I just HAD to think of something! So I ran to the kitchen and whipped up a batch of Bluemint Coolcakes! Didja know the Riches have a BLASTFREEZER cuz I want one now!"
"You've made these before?"
>"Nope. Here have a couple more. I'm gonna go give some to the ponies around town. See ya later Dashie!"
>She shoves another three cupcakes into your hooves from her saddlebags and bounces off around the corner trilling some upbeat tune.
>You just shake your head and stuff another one into your mouth.
>How is it even better than the first one?
>Well, at least you know how you'll keep cool until the rain comes.
"Thanks Pinkie Pie."
>You mutter under your breath as you trot off down the street.
>Her voice echoes from several streets over.
>"YOU'RE WELCOME!"
