  1. Sci-fi is broken, and I see no hope that it will be fixed soon.
  2.
  3. Today's tv-shows are totally controlled by douchebags, who only care about money, and not actual sci-fi quality. They want to target the most broader audience they can get, and by doing so, they're producing crappy sci-fi. I'm not even sure we can call it sci-fi anymore, you see: vampires, telepaths, superpowers, paranormal... "things"!? Whatever... They're bombarding us with these dumb, over abused, crap-like ideas. Yes, sure we need three different shows about vampires, just switch the order of words in the title, and it's good to go.
  4.
  5. I see where this goes. The result of broadening the audience forces producers to focus on things that "may" interest more people, so shows must be dumbed down, and by doing that, hardcore sci-fi became totally ignored. Common people love heroes and vampires, much more than spaceships and aliens, and they are in larger numbers than honorable sci-fi fans. Watching an intergalactic war involving different races, cool technology, mind-blowing CGI? Naah, that's for nerds...

  7. Not to mention, human actors are cheap to hire, and that means quite a lot. No one wants to spend money on expensive CGI, and create something truly awesome, so they're focusing on details that can be cheaply acquired or done. I got sick of the over-hyped keywords everyone is talking about, like character development (not that it's not important, but it simply can't drive a sci-fi show by itself). Do you think the formula to throw a bunch of people in closed environments to do romance and drama all over the place is good enough? I don't think so.

  9. I don't want to watch Big-Brother in a post apocalyptic world, and I certainly don't want to watch Walker the Texas Ranger in a world invaded by aliens. Stop this!
  10. I want to see the apocalypse happen, I want to see how the invasion begins, where did the aliens come from, what's their story, what technology do they use, how does it compare to ours, what kind of resistance did we put up? (and I don't want to see two soldiers and a tank being smashed, while a fancy general admits that we are defeated)
  11. I want great background stories, don't put the whole show in the hands of a few characters, stop putting the accent on usual, everyday things as if a non-sci-fi show is being developed, like the past life of the protagonists, or boring relationships. Don't get me wrong, there are holes that must be filled with that kind of stuff, but they're totally abused, it's the only thing that's happening in shows, and once in a while, if we get lucky (but that's truly rare), part of the story is revealed. Well that's not enough!

  13. By saying that it's apocalypse or invasion, and still shooting romance/drama with two scoops of action and almost without any interesting story whatsoever is totally lame. Create some real, epic, space drama, with ships, battles, alien races and civilizations, dig into their past, how did they rise, what do they want, get into those details. I don't care at all about how Ben and Susan coming from an idyllic little-town fell in love 15 years prior to the actual events of the show.

  15. It's understandable that a show of that kind would cost pretty much, but it would be worth it! Have a look at Game of Thrones, they really got the right combination of boring stuff and awesome-epic scenes, full of action, and a totally crazy story. Do this in space, only even better! If there's a lack of inspiration, checkout Stargate Atlantis, they have the best background story ever created: the Ancients. Now that was an uber cool idea, very well thought out, and I could imagine a whole tv-show based only on that topic. An advanced civilization colonizing galaxies, getting into intergalactic war and losing it against another advanced civilization, sounds like an epic war, am I the only one thinking that it's a great story?

  17. Ok, turning off the troll gun. I could go on with this of course, but I made my point (or several points actually). There are too many worthless ideas out there being realized in hopes they just might succeed in deceiving the audience for a season or two, and then get shamefully cancelled when they're busted. Sadly, there are also real pearls getting unfairly shut down, because someone's rating expectations were not met. We don't need that. Do something about it. Please save sci-fi.
