  1. (06:58:01) Cheeseness: Hi Luke-StateofPlay!
  2. (06:58:19) Syd: Alright, stream title should be properly updated
  3. (06:58:25) Luke-StateofPlay: Hi Josh / Cheese, and all who are here!
  4. (06:58:26) Syd: (I remembered this time! :D)
  5. (06:58:26) Cheeseness: Ah, thanks Syd!
  6. (06:58:38) Cheeseness: Thanks for joining us
  7. (06:58:47) Permafry_42: Hi StateofPlay glad you could join us!
  8. (06:59:03) Syd: We'll be starting soon
  9. (06:59:31) Luke-StateofPlay: Thanks Perma! Nice to be here!

  12. (07:00:24) Fireflower: Hey
  13. (07:00:25) Syd: Hey Fireflower
  14. (07:00:30) Cheeseness: Hey Fireflower
  15. (07:00:31) Permafry_42: Hi Fireflower!
  16. (07:00:56) RUBICN64 [Android@7DA2B63F:50D2DD52:B5035934:IP] entered the room.

  21. (07:02:00) RUBICN64: what's up Cheeseness?
  22. (07:02:01) Cheeseness: Syd: Would you mind bumping the thread?
  23. (07:02:25) Syd: Already did
  24. (07:02:27) Aeden [4f5308f6@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  25. (07:02:34) Cheeseness: <3
  26. (07:02:38) Cheeseness: Thanks ^_^
  27. (07:02:40) Cheeseness: Hi Aeden
  28. (07:03:45) Permafry_42: alright so I'll let you guys know when i start and then let me know when the stream is on
  29. (07:03:58) Cheeseness: Permafry_42: As soon as you're ready ^_^
  30. (07:03:59) kisak [kisak@hide-1E6BEB7F.hrbgpa.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
  31. (07:04:08) RUBICN64: wish Lume & Aether was available on Amazon's Android App Store :-(
  32. (07:04:09) Cheeseness: Hey kisak
  33. (07:04:19) Sven_Q45 [5084d8e2@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  34. (07:04:19) kisak: hi Cheeseness
  35. (07:04:36) Cheeseness: RUBICN64: I think Lume might be?
  36. (07:04:42) Cheeseness: Not sure about Aether
  37. (07:04:51) RUBICN64: hold on, let me check
  38. (07:04:58) Luke-StateofPlay: Lume used to be - an OS update broke it!
  39. (07:05:03) Cheeseness: Aww
  40. (07:05:09) Luke-StateofPlay: We hope to bring it back sometime
  41. (07:06:02) Permafry_42: so my 2 main questions about the game since i won't be able to ask it afterwards is 1) Why did you lock the resolution of the game, and 2) will you be allowing lumino city to run at 1080p?
  42. (07:06:42) Permafry_42: and I'll be starting the stream in 3
  43. (07:06:45) Permafry_42: 2
  44. (07:06:48) Permafry_42: 1
  45. (07:06:52) RUBICN64: Cheeseness no go on both :-(
  46. (07:07:01) Permafry_42: k let me know when its showing
  47. (07:07:05) Cheeseness: Aww
  48. (07:07:27) Cheeseness: As Luke just said, Lume was taken down because it was broken by an OS update, but they're hoping to bring it back
  49. (07:07:29) flesk: Will the screenshots be shown at the beginning of the stream?
  50. (07:07:30) Syd: It's up
  51. (07:07:37) Cheeseness: We're good to go, permafry
  52. (07:07:38) Permafry_42: k
  53. (07:07:45) Cheeseness: If anybody doesn't see video, pause and play the stream :)
  54. (07:07:48) RUBICN64: oh, at Amazon?
  55. (07:07:51) flesk: From Lumino City I mean.
  56. (07:07:54) Luke-StateofPlay: Perma - we locked the res as this was the maximum we could get working with streaming video at the time, though we managed to up the res for the iOS version!
  57. (07:08:04) Cheeseness: flesk: Half way through the stream
  58. (07:08:23) flesk: Ok. So between Lume and Aether?
  59. (07:08:25) Cheeseness: Hoping I pronounced your name right there, Luke-StateofPlay
  60. (07:08:27) Luke-StateofPlay: and with 2) Lumino City is in full 1080p.
  61. (07:08:28) Cheeseness: flesk: Yeah
  62. (07:09:10) Permafry_42: I'll give a moment to appreciate the title music =D
  63. (07:09:32) Cheeseness: Luke-StateofPlay: What inspirations did you have for the soundtrack?
  64. (07:09:34) Klaimen: this music is so nice, always.
  65. (07:09:35) GameClubFan_788336 [76d09829@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  66. (07:09:43) Cheeseness: Yeah
  67. (07:10:20) VojtaKoci: The most beautiful menu ever. Gosh. Eyegasm.
  68. (07:10:20) Permafry_42: also what was the inspiration for the title?
  69. (07:10:22) Luke-StateofPlay: Aww cheers. I composed this one, inspiration came from some of the downtempo electronic music I was listening to
  70. (07:10:40) ReverendGumby [45b55323@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  71. (07:10:44) Luke-StateofPlay: Fourtet springs to mind but isn't the best example!
  72. (07:10:52) Cheeseness: Is it all recorded, or is some of it synthesized?
  73. (07:10:57) Typ0 [8d183583@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  74. (07:11:03) Cheeseness: Hey ReverendGumby, Typ0
  75. (07:11:20) ReverendGumby: Howdy!
  76. (07:11:23) Luke-StateofPlay: It's mostly guitar, played live and then run through Cubase
  77. (07:11:26) Typ0: hi
  78. (07:11:30) DDBandit24 [63fe0eee@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  79. (07:11:37) DDBandit24: What is up?
  80. (07:11:48) Luke-StateofPlay: the beat in the background is guitar repeating on itself
  81. (07:11:51) GameClubFan_360116 [54d15ef5@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  82. (07:11:53) Cheeseness: Hey DDBandit24
  83. (07:12:14) Luke-StateofPlay: I think I should probably namecheck Floex (machinarium composer) as inspiration too
  84. (07:12:21) Cheeseness: :D
  85. (07:12:37) Typ0 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  86. (07:12:53) RUBICN64 left the room (quit: Quit: -a- Android IRC 2.1.15 ).
  87. (07:13:26) Luke-StateofPlay: Aha! another group you guys should check out if you like this music (and Floex) - Hidden Orchestra https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3ppF0evyH0
  88. (07:13:31) Cheeseness: Luke-StateofPlay: How long did it typically take you to construct and shoot a room?
  89. (07:13:34) Luke-StateofPlay: Floex plays with them sometimes
  90. (07:13:37) kisak: coolest solar panel wiring ever
  91. (07:14:05) Babar left the room (quit: Ping timeout: 187 seconds).
  92. (07:14:07) DDBandit24: Well this doesn't look too hard
  93. (07:14:11) VojtaKoci: Floex is perfect, his performances have incredible energy. My favourite czech musician, definitely...
  94. (07:14:27) Klaimen: floex and hidden orcheastra are both awesome =)
  95. (07:14:27) Luke-StateofPlay: I guess Lume was all one big room :) It was constructed in about three weeks overall I think
  96. (07:14:48) Luke-StateofPlay: and all shot in one day
  97. (07:15:10) Cheeseness: Nice
  98. (07:15:21) Cheeseness: Has that increased for Lumino City, do you think?
  99. (07:15:40) Luke-StateofPlay: we were taking advantage of the skills of a friend of mine who's a BBC cameraman
  100. (07:15:54) frogg: Luke-StateofPlay: Look purdy
  101. (07:15:58) Luke-StateofPlay: coudn't ask for more than a day - he did a great job lighting
  102. (07:16:13) frogg: erm, I meant 'looks'. Less of a command, more of a compliment.
  103. (07:16:14) Cheeseness: Handy :D
  104. (07:16:15) frogg: <_<
  105. (07:16:29) Cheeseness: Ha, frogg ^_^
  106. (07:16:31) DDBandit24: Everyones favorite, Cursive
  107. (07:16:39) kisak: good old grandad, so much faith that his grandson can break into the house :D
  108. (07:16:43) Babar [Miranda@2685109D.CC87F2FC.83382450.IP] entered the room.
  109. (07:16:44) Luke-StateofPlay: Cheeseness yes!
  110. (07:17:02) Luke-StateofPlay: I think each scene in lumino city has been more work than the whole Lume model
  111. (07:17:11) Luke-StateofPlay: and there are about twenty of them
  112. (07:17:21) Luke-StateofPlay: and that's just the exteriors
  113. (07:17:33) Luke-StateofPlay: We've kind of gone to town.
  114. (07:17:35) Cheeseness: Luke-StateofPlay: How did Lume as a project start, and which aspects began to form first as it took form and direction?
  115. (07:17:37) Cheeseness: Woo :D
  116. (07:17:37) Klaimen: oooh, so lumino city is going to be much longer? how long would you say is it gonna be?
  117. (07:18:06) Luke-StateofPlay: Klaimen well in terms of just scenes, at least twenty times bigger
  118. (07:18:07) VojtaKoci: By the way, Lume is huge inspiration for me, so thank you very much. I'm currently working on papery game too, but the graphics style is completely different. Also, it's a logical platformer, so no worries, I won't steal your beautiful work.
  119. (07:18:24) DDBandit24: Yeah, congrats for the success man
  120. (07:18:37) Luke-StateofPlay: Cheers VojtaKoci - don't worry the more paper games the better!
  121. (07:18:45) Klaimen: cool. that sounds awesome. can't wait to play =)
  122. (07:18:50) Luke-StateofPlay: Send us a link when it's coming together
  123. (07:18:56) Klaimen: do you have a release window yet?
  124. (07:19:20) Luke-StateofPlay: So, looking at the stream here, the puzzles are pretty basic looking compared to Lumino City
  125. (07:19:27) Luke-StateofPlay: but then I always look back and want to change things
  126. (07:19:40) Cheeseness: In terms of difficulty, complexity or both?
  127. (07:19:45) Luke-StateofPlay: Release-wise, we're aiming for mid-2014
  128. (07:20:10) Klaimen: that's a foreseeable future. cool!
  129. (07:20:23) Luke-StateofPlay: The biggest unknown right now is music (can I compose twenty times more? I dunno), and how long the polishing will take
  130. (07:20:35) VojtaKoci: Paper is beatiful material, by the way. It has incredible "ductility"...
  131. (07:20:41) Luke-StateofPlay: Ahh the music puzzle... I like that one
  132. (07:20:44) VojtaKoci left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  133. (07:20:59) VojtaKoci [5ab22ef9@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  134. (07:21:02) Aeden left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  135. (07:21:19) GameClubFan_060085 [4f5308f6@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  136. (07:21:26) Luke-StateofPlay: Cheeseness in terms of complexity of build and 'realness' I guess
  137. (07:21:40) DDBandit24: This game looks very puzzely
  138. (07:21:42) Cheeseness: :)
  139. (07:21:42) Luke-StateofPlay: and hopefully we've thought through the difficulty of some of them better than Lume
  140. (07:22:11) Luke-StateofPlay: there's a puzzle under the sink which is very tricky
  141. (07:22:27) Cheeseness: What're your thoughts on the difficulty of Lume's puzzles in retrospect?
  142. (07:22:28) Klaimen: in lumino city, will you go have to back and forth through the whole city to solve puzzles? and will you meet other people there?
  143. (07:22:33) Luke-StateofPlay: and this map one can be confusing (tho I guess that's the point)
  144. (07:22:36) Permafry_42: 1 moment XD
  145. (07:22:41) DDBandit24: Are we about to go on an adventure or is the whole game about puzzles?
  146. (07:22:44) Cheeseness: Yeah, the map one was nicely obtuce :D
  147. (07:23:01) Cheeseness: obtuce^
  148. (07:23:03) Taekon [3aaab5ff@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  149. (07:23:07) Cheeseness: Hey Taekon
  150. (07:23:11) Luke-StateofPlay: Cheeseness I like the difficulty of some in a way, I like the way they ask you to use your head
  151. (07:23:14) Cheeseness: DDBandit24: Lume is pretty puzzle oriented
  152. (07:23:20) udoncat [3cf1c8cf@hide-B64552F4.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  153. (07:23:26) Luke-StateofPlay: and there's a nice mix of easy and hard ones which you can attempt in any order
  154. (07:23:28) Klaimen: Lume's difficulty was adequate.
  155. (07:23:29) Taekon: Hey! I'm super late :D
  156. (07:23:37) VojtaKoci: Well, few puzzles in Lume are incredibly easy, but some of them were too hardcore for me. (*cough cough* the book one *cough cough)...
  157. (07:23:40) Luke-StateofPlay: so you don't feel like you're necessarily stuck down a linear path
  158. (07:23:53) DDBandit24: This reminds me of Proffesor Layton
  159. (07:24:16) Luke-StateofPlay: VojtaKoci yeah the book one is too hard I reckon
  160. (07:24:28) Luke-StateofPlay: we actually changed it a little for the iOS version
  161. (07:24:48) Luke-StateofPlay: I think we underlines a lot of the numbers in the book
  162. (07:24:54) Taekon: The music's really sweet :o
  163. (07:24:54) Luke-StateofPlay: *underlined
  164. (07:25:04) Luke-StateofPlay: Cheers Taekon!
  165. (07:25:06) VojtaKoci: Damn. I spent several evening just trying and trying and trying...
  166. (07:25:11) Cheeseness: I got the impression that Lume was intended to be small and episodic, but everything I've heard about Lumino City makes it feel like it's much larger in scope than that. What prompted this change in direction?
  167. (07:25:13) Taekon: For some reason it reminds me of the music from a typical RPG Fantasy town :)
  168. (07:25:17) Luke-StateofPlay: There's actually an OST with more tracks
  169. (07:25:37) Taekon: Np! Thanks for joining us Luke-StateofPlay!
  170. (07:25:37) Luke-StateofPlay: It was part of a Humble Bundle recently
  171. (07:26:28) Klaimen: i got that one, well, from groupees, though, i think. it's really nice. I think 3 more tracks even?
  172. (07:26:32) Luke-StateofPlay: Cheeseness I always wanted to tell a larger story, and I guess when that actually got drawn out it felt like it needed to be one big thing
  173. (07:26:43) VojtaKoci: And hey, where did you find those old photos in the book?
  174. (07:26:46) Luke-StateofPlay: from a purely practical standpoint
  175. (07:26:48) Luke-StateofPlay: ...
  176. (07:27:17) Luke-StateofPlay: we had to build a whole city in any case, and because it had to be filmed it had to all be there at once
  177. (07:27:25) flesk: I think Lume is more like Drawn than Layton in terms of gameplay.
  178. (07:27:28) DDBandit24: I like how that X button breaks the contrast XD
  179. (07:27:43) JakeSpencer [32aa7ae8@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  180. (07:27:47) Luke-StateofPlay: and also, I really like the experience of getting a fully rounded story
  181. (07:27:48) VojtaKoci: Oh my, I love the ecological context of this game...
  182. JackLeHamster JakeSpencer
  183. (07:27:52) Cheeseness: Hey JakeSpencer
  184. (07:27:59) JakeSpencer: Hello.
  185. (07:28:10) Taekon: I for one am glad that it's easy to see the X without it being way too prominent
  186. (07:28:20) Taekon: I suck so hard at finding things...
  187. (07:28:55) Cheeseness: Luke-StateofPlay: I have to say that I do too, although I think something is a little lost when people power through games instead of having a break and having time to absorb them (it was much nicer before walkthroughs were a thing ^_^ )
  188. (07:29:08) Luke-StateofPlay: thanks VojtaKoci. Yeah it's a subject which is often hammered home unsubtly (and hardly ever at all in games). I wanted it to be 'there' but something you understand through play, rather than it being didactic
  189. (07:29:41) Taekon: Agreed Cheeseness!
  190. (07:29:44) Cheeseness: Looking at Broken Age as a recent example, I think that Act 1 will resonate a lot more for players who've had a couple of months to think about it, than for those who play the thing as a whole
  191. (07:29:54) Luke-StateofPlay: yeah hints are a strange thing - some people demand them, some people don't even want them there!
  192. (07:30:00) Cheeseness: Yeah
  193. (07:30:18) Taekon: Oh man one of my pet peeves is when people skip tutorials
  194. (07:30:21) Luke-StateofPlay: but it was just like that with magazine walkthroughs and Monkey Island. My dad banned me from reading that one as he'd just bought me the game
  195. (07:30:23) Taekon: and then wonder how to do things
  196. (07:30:27) Taekon: :(
  197. (07:30:29) Luke-StateofPlay: but I found out where he kept it.
  198. (07:30:32) Cheeseness: Heh
  199. (07:30:45) Permafry_42: i love the camera shake here
  200. (07:30:59) Luke-StateofPlay: Then I had to lie and say I never peeked
  201. (07:31:05) DDBandit24: Did you just put a hamburger and a cake on the wind turbine?
  202. (07:31:12) Klaimen: there it is =)
  203. (07:31:14) Luke-StateofPlay: Permafry_42 yeah I love the shake
  204. (07:31:16) flesk: Is the camera handheld or on a boom?
  205. (07:31:16) DDBandit24: And a thing happened?
  206. (07:31:23) udoncat: This is really cute
  207. (07:31:30) Cheeseness: I recall that a friend of mine had a magazine walkthrough for Monkey 2. We had gotten very stuck, and turned to the walkthrough, but being from Australia, we had no idea what "half-inch" meant
  208. (07:31:32) Cheeseness: :D
  209. (07:31:35) Cheeseness: Hey udoncat!
  210. (07:31:41) Cheeseness: How long have you been hiding here?
  211. (07:31:43) udoncat: Morning :)
  212. (07:31:53) udoncat: Just a little bit
  213. (07:32:00) Luke-StateofPlay: my cameraman buddy (http://www.tomhooker.tv/) was unhappy with it but I kept saying no leave it in
  214. (07:32:01) udoncat: Haven't played this before
  215. (07:32:24) VojtaKoci: That was quick.
  216. (07:32:26) Cheeseness: It's short, but sweet
  217. (07:32:26) Luke-StateofPlay: camera was hand-held
  218. (07:32:28) Cheeseness: :3
  219. (07:32:39) DDBandit24: Was that a live-action cutscene?
  220. (07:32:42) flesk: Oh, so it's not intentional. I think it looks cool though.
  221. (07:32:44) Luke-StateofPlay: really difficult for him to do, as the camera has to match up in a circle
  222. (07:32:58) ReverendGumby: The videography here is fantastic.
  223. (07:33:08) Cheeseness: It really is a lovely game
  224. (07:33:17) Luke-StateofPlay: in Lumino City we had a 10-foot motion control arm :) accurate down to a nanometer, so that wasn't a problem
  225. (07:33:28) kisak: this is a cool possessed diarama you got here ... what's that? it's not a video feed but a game?
  226. (07:33:29) JakeSpencer: "Cheating" in games is so fascinating to me. I used to, practically by default, play every game on NES with Game Genie. Obviously it gave me an experience that wasn't what the developers intended, but cheating is how I learned how to play video games in the first place.
  227. (07:33:31) Luke-StateofPlay: thanks cheeseness!
  228. (07:33:33) Cheeseness: Alrighty, so Luke has shared with us a bunch of screenshots of Lumino City, which we'll be showing in a tick
  229. (07:33:39) Permafry_42: alright so I'll show the screenshots for lumino city now =D
  230. (07:33:41) DDBandit24: Did we just beat the game?
  231. (07:33:44) Fireflower: Nice game
  232. (07:33:52) udoncat: Is there anymore?
  233. (07:33:57) flesk: Yeah, I was checking in on your blog at least weekly for the longest time after playing Lume the first time.
  234. (07:33:58) Luke-StateofPlay: you did just beat it
  235. (07:33:58) Klaimen: screenshots? cool! =)
  236. (07:34:01) udoncat: The environs sort of remind me of the Neverhood
  237. (07:34:03) VojtaKoci: Is the animation motion capture?
  238. (07:34:16) flesk: I so wanted more.
  239. (07:34:18) udoncat: Going to have to get this now :P
  240. (07:34:18) Luke-StateofPlay: the animation is Flash
  241. (07:34:26) DDBandit24: Did we just beat the game?
  242. (07:34:31) Cheeseness: Luke-StateofPlay: Could you talk us through what we're looking at
  243. (07:34:31) Luke-StateofPlay: hand-motion tracked to the background
  244. (07:34:32) udoncat: Oooh nice!
  245. (07:34:36) Permafry_42: can't wait for lumino city =D
  246. (07:34:36) Luke-StateofPlay: ok sure
  247. (07:34:43) Cheeseness: DDBandit24: Yep. The first episode is really short
  248. (07:34:44) flesk: Will Lumino City also be Flash?
  249. (07:34:47) Luke-StateofPlay: right, so this is lumino city
  250. (07:34:54) Cheeseness: But the sequel is shaping up to be a much larger game
  251. (07:35:02) Klaimen: man look at this gorgeousness...
  252. (07:35:03) Luke-StateofPlay: we've got a lot more detail and depth in this game
  253. (07:35:06) Permafry_42: the screenshots are beautiful btw
  254. (07:35:16) Klaimen: not so quick! lol
  255. (07:35:18) flesk: Yeah, those look gorgeous.
  256. (07:35:18) Luke-StateofPlay: we built a city 10 foot high from paper, miniature lights, motors
  257. (07:35:20) Fireflower: How long did it take to make the game?
  258. (07:35:30) VojtaKoci: Holy moly, colour colour colour!
  259. (07:35:32) Luke-StateofPlay: it's still going!
  260. (07:35:33) Taekon: Regarding the cheating in video games: I'm the same, I used to do it pretty much by default when I was younger. Makes it seem more enjoyable - but as I grow up I take more satisfaction from training for exp and working for money or items more than just POOF and instant success :o
  261. (07:35:36) udoncat: That's amazing :)
  262. (07:35:46) Klaimen: this is all so lovely...
  263. (07:35:48) Permafry_42: i'll let them go through one more time to let people have a second look at them
  264. (07:35:58) DDBandit24: Well this all really cool concept art!
  265. (07:36:02) Taekon: And dang that's friggin' awesome!
  266. (07:36:08) Permafry_42: after that I'm going to pause the stream so i can switch to aether
  267. (07:36:12) Luke-StateofPlay: we've used microwave motors to get turbines spinning, and used laser cutting to get all the fine detail in the ladders, railings etc
  268. (07:36:14) Klaimen: is love this crane scene
  269. (07:36:25) Cheeseness: Permafry_42: Maybe go three or four times through
  270. (07:36:30) Klaimen: the tree goes through the roof =)
  271. (07:36:30) Luke-StateofPlay: this is all from the game DDBandit24
  272. (07:36:40) Permafry_42: @cheese alright sure
  273. (07:36:41) JakeSpencer: Have you tracked the quantity of paper you've put into this?
  274. (07:36:42) Luke-StateofPlay: you get to control that crane :)
  275. (07:36:53) Klaimen: cool! =)
  276. (07:36:54) Permafry_42: want me to slow them down?
  277. (07:36:55) VojtaKoci: I hope there's gonna be more and more hand crafted videogames in the future.
  278. (07:36:59) Luke-StateofPlay: hmmm. It might not seem such an eco friendly game if I did
  279. (07:37:00) ReverendGumby: Wow. I don't know why the hand-wrought miniature works are so attractive.
  280. (07:37:02) flesk: Are these posted on your blog as well?
  281. (07:37:08) DDBandit24: Well this looks very creative I'm hoping you guys have future plans for it.
  282. (07:37:12) Cheeseness: How much of the materials are recycled/do you recycle?
  283. (07:37:22) Luke-StateofPlay: some are on the blog I think. Some of these are being seen for the first time
  284. (07:37:32) flesk: Ah, cool.
  285. (07:37:32) Luke-StateofPlay: I'll put them up and maybe a few more this week
  286. (07:37:40) Klaimen: yeah please do!
  287. (07:37:42) Luke-StateofPlay: http://www.stateofplaygames.com/blog/
  288. (07:37:48) flesk: Looking forward to that.
  289. (07:37:48) Permafry_42: Thanks very much for letting us see them btw =D
  290. (07:37:49) Klaimen: these would make awesome wallpapers, too
  291. (07:37:55) Klaimen: yeah, thank you!
  292. (07:38:08) Permafry_42: the lumino sign one is going to be my new background
  293. (07:38:18) Klaimen: ^
  294. (07:38:29) flesk: Yeah, that one's exceptionally awesome.
  295. (07:38:30) DDBandit24: So is the main character all in flash?
  296. (07:38:33) Cheeseness: Luke-StateofPlay: Let me know when these are up on the blog and I'll pop them in our forum thread
  297. (07:38:39) Luke-StateofPlay: :) go for it! I'll get some higher res ones up on the blog too
  298. (07:38:48) Klaimen: yeah, please =)
  299. (07:39:05) Taekon: Where do you guys keep the miniatures after the production's finished?
  300. (07:39:12) Luke-StateofPlay: main character (and all the others in this) are created in paper first, their pieces photgraphed, put into Flash then animated there
  301. (07:39:29) Permafry_42: alright so we're going to have to pause the stream now so that I have enough time to play through aether
  302. (07:39:35) Cheeseness: I'd love to see a tie-in popup book :D
  303. (07:39:38) JakeSpencer: Gosh, the music.
  304. (07:39:39) Luke-StateofPlay: we've developed our own tech for adding camera blur so she really sits in the scene
  305. (07:39:40) Klaimen: are there going to be other characters?? =)
  306. (07:39:56) Luke-StateofPlay: Plenty of others! That's what's taking up most of the time
  307. (07:40:04) VojtaKoci: By the way, how long is the Lumino City soundtrack?
  308. (07:40:13) Luke-StateofPlay: that crane city has people popping out of all the windows
  309. (07:40:14) Klaimen: will they get voice dub?
  310. (07:40:38) Luke-StateofPlay: the OST has about 5 tracks I think. Only 2 are in the game, the others are ones which never made it in (but might appear in Lumino City)
  311. (07:40:49) Syd: Now we're switching over to the second game for today's session, Aether.
  312. (07:41:04) Luke-StateofPlay: I think voices might take away from the identification you feel
  313. (07:41:05) DDBandit24: Oh it's two games?
  314. (07:41:14) DDBandit24: I thought it was one
  315. (07:41:17) VojtaKoci left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  316. (07:41:21) Cheeseness: The second game hasn't been released yet
  317. (07:41:25) Luke-StateofPlay: I like the fact that when you read the words you're kind of investing in them a little
  318. (07:41:26) Syd: Today is a double-feature. :)
  319. (07:41:28) Klaimen: Luke: true, stay true to the formula =)
  320. (07:41:34) Cheeseness: Oh, right, the session. Yeah :D
  321. (07:41:40) GameClubFan_360116 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  322. (07:41:51) DDBandit24: Okay, I thought Ume and Aether was the title of the game
  323. (07:41:53) Cheeseness: Luke-StateofPlay: Yeah, I think text is definitely the right way to go here
  324. (07:41:57) Cheeseness: Ahh, no, sorry ^_^
  325. (07:42:14) ReverendGumby: I feel VO would pull you out of the environment in this case.
  326. (07:42:17) DDBandit24: But they're seprate ones
  327. (07:42:27) Taekon: Agreed with text-only :)
  328. (07:42:39) Luke-StateofPlay: We *could* make Ume and Aether... a bit like a marvel film
  329. (07:42:42) flesk: Yeah, I prefer the text too.
  330. (07:42:47) Luke-StateofPlay: Lume vs Aether?
  331. (07:42:54) Klaimen: thanks for sharing your time, this was amazing! =)
  332. (07:42:55) flesk: Same with The Dream Machine.
  333. (07:43:01) Klaimen: goodbye!
  334. (07:43:07) Luke-StateofPlay: No problem Klaimen!
  335. (07:43:10) Luke-StateofPlay: Thanks all!
  336. (07:43:15) Klaimen left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  337. (07:43:16) udoncat: Thank you!
  338. (07:43:17) flesk: Thanks for joining, Luke.
  339. (07:43:20) Permafry_42: cya state of play thanks again!
  340. (07:43:22) Cheeseness: Thanks heaps for coming! You're welcome to hang around and continue chatting :)
  341. (07:43:26) ReverendGumby: Thanks Luke-StateofPlay
  342. (07:43:35) DDBandit24: So where's the game?
  343. (07:43:44) Permafry_42: Alright so i'll be starting aether up in 3
  344. (07:43:44) Syd: I think Perma is still setting up
  345. (07:43:45) Cheeseness: We're just waiting for Permafry_42 to get things set up
  346. (07:43:45) Permafry_42: 2
  347. (07:43:46) Permafry_42: 1
  348. (07:43:59) ReverendGumby: -1
  349. (07:44:04) Luke-StateofPlay: Nice one, I've got to head now but thanks for the chat!
  350. (07:44:11) Cheeseness: Our pleasure!
  351. (07:44:12) Permafry_42: k is the stream up again?
  352. (07:44:14) Taekon: Thanks for joining us! Have fun :D
  353. (07:44:15) Syd: Bye Luke!
  354. (07:44:16) Cheeseness: Best of luck with Lumino City!
  355. (07:44:20) Luke-StateofPlay: Bye!
  356. (07:44:21) Cheeseness: I look forward to playing it :D
  357. (07:44:25) DDBandit24: Good Luck dude
  358. (07:44:26) flesk: Bye.
  359. (07:44:33) JakeSpencer left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  360. (07:44:47) Permafry_42: has the stream gone up yet?
  361. (07:44:54) Syd: It's up
  362. (07:44:59) Permafry_42: k
  363. (07:45:12) Syd: The title card is a tiny thing in the center though. Did you remember to stretch it to fill the screen?
  364. (07:45:26) Syd: Oh, nevermind, Aether fits tine
  365. (07:45:27) Cheeseness: Alrighty, so Aether
  366. (07:45:48) Luke-StateofPlay left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  367. (07:45:48) DDBandit24: Ok I remember this game
  368. (07:46:02) DDBandit24: And I had no idea what the hell to do
  369. (07:46:23) Cheeseness: It's a bit abstract
  370. (07:46:52) DDBandit24: This artstyle reminds me of the Binding of Isaac
  371. (07:46:52) Permafry_42: i love the art style btw
  372. (07:47:01) Permafry_42: made by the same person
  373. (07:47:02) Cheeseness: DDBandit24: It's the same artist :D
  374. (07:47:07) DDBandit24: oh really?
  375. (07:47:11) Cheeseness: Yup
  376. (07:47:13) Syd: Wikipedia page, if anyone wants to look through it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aether_%28video_game%29
  377. (07:47:17) DDBandit24: That's awesome!
  378. (07:47:23) Cheeseness: Edmund also did art for Gish and Super Meat Boy
  379. (07:48:18) udoncat: a space octopus?
  380. (07:48:25) udoncat: Yay!
  381. (07:48:26) Cheeseness: udoncat: Best kind :3
  382. (07:48:40) Arthur_D left the room (quit: Quit: Leaving).
  383. (07:49:26) udoncat: Whoa, definitely not for those who get motion sick easy O_O
  384. (07:49:29) Cheeseness: I sort of wish that this game had a bit more to guide players at first
  385. (07:49:51) Cheeseness: I've talked to a lot of people who said they flew around to a couple of planets, couldn't work out what to do and left
  386. (07:49:52) Taekon: <- gets motion sick real bad
  387. (07:49:57) ReverendGumby left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  388. (07:50:12) Cheeseness: It's a nice segue through from the difficulty/walkthrough discussion from earlier^_^
  389. (07:51:08) Cheeseness: The controls are kinda neat. The swinging feels really enjoyable once you get a hang of it
  390. (07:51:25) Fireflower: Interesting game
  391. (07:51:40) udoncat: Can we take the lonely people with us?
  392. (07:51:46) Cheeseness: The idea is that there's something to do or achieve on each planet
  393. (07:51:47) DDBandit24: Man... I haven't played this game in a while
  394. (07:51:52) Cheeseness: udoncat: Sadly, no :(
  395. (07:52:00) Cheeseness: (unless I missed something :D )
  396. (07:52:20) kisak: Space, The Final Frontier, these are the voyages of monster and kid, boldly going where no monster/kid friendship has gone before
  397. (07:52:27) flesk: How many planets are there?
  398. (07:52:30) Cheeseness: 5 or 6?
  399. (07:52:32) udoncat: :P
  400. (07:53:00) Cheeseness: So the puzzle on this planet is to explode all these gravity things(?) by swinging counter clockwise around them
  401. (07:53:31) udoncat: Freedom!
  402. (07:53:59) Cheeseness: It's pretty cute :3
  403. (07:54:07) udoncat: Oh there's actually markers pointing out the planets?
  404. (07:54:10) Cheeseness: Yeah
  405. (07:54:13) Taekon: That moon kinda looks like an eye
  406. (07:54:16) Cheeseness: Moving through space gets a bit old though
  407. (07:56:42) kisak: oh frack ... flash 9
  408. (07:56:46) GameClubFan_788336 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  409. (07:57:47) Permafry_42: i actually found going through space relaxing
  410. (07:58:37) nulian left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  411. (07:58:39) Cheeseness: I foudn that once I wanted to start focusing on solving the planets, it felt a bit lengty
  412. (07:59:37) Fireflower: water planet :)
  413. (08:00:16) Cheeseness: I like that most of the puzzles are achievable aren't too bad once you get the idea
  414. (08:01:20) DDBandit24: so how long is this game?
  415. (08:01:45) Permafry_42: around 30-45 minutes
  416. (08:01:52) Syd: It's not very long. Looks like Perma as 2 planets left to go
  417. (08:02:23) Syd: According to wikipedia, this game was made over the course of 2 weeks.
  418. (08:02:27) Cheeseness: Yup
  419. (08:02:37) DDBandit24: Wow
  420. (08:03:10) DDBandit24: This must be how Mario Galaxy got it's consept
  421. (08:03:16) DDBandit24: *concept
  422. (08:03:59) Cheeseness: The music is pretty neat
  423. (08:07:04) Cheeseness: :3
  424. (08:07:48) DDBandit24: Oh? Is the game beaten?
  425. (08:08:07) Syd: Yep
  426. (08:08:09) Cheeseness: Finished perhaps. Is it something you really beat?
  427. (08:08:54) Cheeseness: ^_^
  428. (08:09:09) Permafry_42: Thanks to everyone for coming =D
  429. (08:09:16) Cheeseness: Thanks for streaming!
  430. (08:09:22) DDBandit24: Yeah, it was nice!
  431. (08:09:23) Fireflower: Thanks!
  432. (08:09:40) DDBandit24: I like Ume the most ;)
  433. (08:09:44) Syd: I super-duper encourage anyone that might already have Brothers from a past Steam sale but hasn't played it yet to play through it before the next session. It's only about 3 hours long so it doesn't take a long time to complete.
  434. (08:09:48) Cheeseness: Don't forget to leave some opinions in the forum thread! :D
