First i tried:

* first thing
* second thing

Which made one big string.

Then I tried

/* first thing
/* second thing

which just ended up in random italicising in one big string

Then I tried

* first thing

* second thing

which ended up in alternating italicised and normal lines

Then finally realised i needed to combine stuff and did

/* first thing

/* second thing

and got a widely spaced list with asterisk bullet points. But it's a list.
