  26. GDAL is a translator library for raster geospatial data formats.
  27. As a library, it presents a single abstract data model to the
  28. calling application for all supported formats. The related OGR
  29. library (which lives within the GDAL source tree) provides
  30. a similar capability for simple features vector data.
  31. .
  32. GDAL supports many popular data formats, including commonly used
  33. ones (GeoTIFF, JPEG, PNG and more) as well as the ones used in
  34. GIS and remote sensing software packages (ERDAS Imagine,
  35. ESRI Arc/Info, ENVI, PCI Geomatics). Also supported many remote
  36. sensing and scientific data distribution formats such as HDF,
  37. EOS FAST, NOAA L1B, NetCDF, FITS.
  38. .
  39. OGR library supports popular vector formats like ESRI Shapefile,
  40. TIGER data, S57, MapInfo File, DGN, GML and more.
  41. .
  42. This package contains the shared library.
