  1. =-=YOU are now known as FredrickCruise[22:51]guileWell then. Welcome, good sir. If the Hero Of The City would be so kind as to come this way? Drinks shall be served in the sitting room. Which is also the liquor room.[22:51]guileWhere did I put that picture of our bar?[22:53]guileLuckily, we have several bars. I believe we will be leading Frederick to the less gaudy, more ostentatious bar room- http://homethangs.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/homebar1.jpg[22:54]FredrickCruise"Thanks. This is quite the place you have here." [22:55]FredrickCruisefollows the unnamed man, his companions trailing behind him[22:55]guileHa haa, there's the picture. She'll be by to take your order. http://image.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/263380/263380,1302532536,1/stock-photo-young-waitress-in-a-retro-waitress-uniform-75036994.jpg[22:56]guile*quietly* We shall have her beaten for her poor habits later. really, nibbling from the hors d'oeuvres?[22:58]guileIs sir's guest a giant hairy man in a vest?[22:58]FredrickCruiseis wearing a silken suit of deep black, with white highlights. He is followed by 5 men in various types of business attire.[23:00]=-=guile is now known as MsHall[23:00]=-=Grail is now known as MrSurridge[23:01]MsHallnods. Her suit is functional but not particularly notable- businesslike. Rather like the rest of her. 'Very good. I believe Mr. Surridge has been alerted and will be with you shortly.'[23:02]MsHallThe help is rather prettier than she is.[23:02]FredrickCruise"Thank you, I don't believe I caught your name though Ms..."[23:04]MsHall"Hall. Christina, if you like. In the meantime, is there anything I can do to make you gentlemen more comfortable?"[23:04]MsHall"I was certainly... let's say, impressed with your actions of late. So do let me know."[23:05]FredrickCruise"Ah, no thank you, you have been wonderful" Cruize says with a slightly quizzical/amused expression on his face[23:05]MsHallThe tone, pleasant and engaging. The face... like a marble block. A bored marble block.[23:06]MsHall"Of course." By this time, the servant girl is taking the orders. Cruise first, then the others in no particular order.[23:08]MsHall"Odds are, if there's something to your taste, we have it. Or can procure it."[23:08]MsHall"Regardless." A subtle glance aside. "I understand that you are a fan of Mr. Surridge's work?"[23:09]FredrickCruisebrightens up[23:09]IronybotOne of the suited men tailing Mr. Cruise looks like he's about to break out into enthusiastic babbling, but holds his tongue with a glance at his boss.[23:10]MsHallIf Frederick is a keen sort of fellow, he might spot a well-worn paperback peeking out of her purse, which she has set aside.[23:11]MsHallThe first hors d'oeurve... I'd say this one http://files.kevineats.com/pics/2010/100818-TestKitchen/DSC06221.jpg[23:11]FredrickCruise"Oh yes indeed you could say that. Mr surridge has such a way with words, the way he mixes fantasy with a deep understaning of real world issues, showing their seriousness even while poking fun, is amazing. In fact I would like to speak to him a bit about those very topics"[23:12]FredrickCruiseYou can see faint dark circles under Fredrick's eyes, though his gaze remains piercing. The suit is of a high quality but he doesn't wear it as well as he could. However the most stand out thing for those who look would be a series of tattooes reaching our from under his sleeve to wrap around his fingers. Wild but ordered with sharp, striking borders [23:12]FredrickCruiseorders a scotch[23:14]MrSurridgeenters the room with a swing in his step and a smile. Carefully groomed and wearing a keen suit, fitted perfectly he wears it as if it were a second skin, completely comfortable it's obvious indulgent and pricey glory[23:14]FredrickCruisewillingly partakes of the delicious looking treats[23:14]MsHallThe marble block becomes more animated- a statue, at least. "Isn't the blending of themes magnificent? One of his many talents. He really is a master of his craft- but excuse me, I do go on."[23:14]IronybotThe hors d'oeurves are devoured rapidly by Mr. Cruise's men, particularly an exceptionally large man with numerous facial scars and several recently-healed cuts that appear to come from cat claws. In spite of the impeccable service, they're eaten just about as quickly as they can be brought out- perhaps a testament to their deliciousness.[23:15]FredrickCruise(HRRNG) [23:15]FredrickCruisecontinues to speak to Christina, seemingly unaware of Surridge's arrival[23:16]FredrickCruise"Indeed, but not only the blending of these themes, any hack can mash together two worlds, but his intricate understanding of what makes a good read and his world development... it.."[23:16]FredrickCruiseseems speechless for a moment[23:16]MsHallobliges. "Which one caught your eye? The high literature? The modern classics? Or perhaps his..." her smile edges slightly toothy. "his racier volumes?"[23:17]FredrickCruisebreathes out softly and grins widely[23:17]MsHall(be back- need more tortilla chips)[23:17]MrSurridgetakes note of the situation, watching, a smile still plastered on his face. Certainly not in response to the swelling of his ego[23:17]FredrickCruise"Well I must admit that those are the ones that caught my eye, but not for the reasons you might think"[23:18]FredrickCruise"Though it had many prevalent romantic themes, the underlying messages and the unobtrusive but witty satire of the current political scene, it's astounding" [23:19]FredrickCruise"One would think he knew what was going to happen, unless he puts them out in a matter of months, which I find a bit unlikely due to the sheer quality of the content" [23:19]MrSurridgegives a small deadeyed glare at Ms. Hall at the mention of his 'romance novels'[23:20]FredrickCruise"And of course, the romantic plot was also entertaining in it's own right" [23:20]IronybotMost of Mr. Cruise's men seem to have picked up on their host's presence, and are waited slightly awkwardly for Mr. Cruise to finish before pointing it out.[23:20]Ironybot(Waiting. Excuse me.)[23:20]MsHall's eyes flick to Mr. Surridge, amused.[23:20]FredrickCruise?[23:21]MrSurridgestands idly, a patient smile on his face as he looks to Mr. Cruise[23:21]FredrickCruisefollows MsHalls glance[23:21]FredrickCruise![23:21]MsHall"Sir, I am glad you could join us."[23:22]FredrickCruise"Oh Mr.Cruize, I didn't notice you there. Pleasure to meet you sir" [23:22]MrSurridge"Thank you Miss Hall, I trust you've entertained our guest?"[23:22]FredrickCruiseannounces, a broad genuine smile taking over his face[23:22]MsHall"One does one's best, sir. If you'll excuse me a moment, gentlemen? i'd like to see that all is in readiness." And that the bodyguards are standing by. One never does know the quality of one's dinner guests...[23:23]IronybotThe man of Mr. Cruise's that perked up earlier looks like it's all he can do to keep himself from dashing over to Mr. Surridge and begging for an autograph, but he stays quiet. Certainly not almost vibrating in glee.[23:23]MsHallCertainly not.[23:23]FredrickCruisesighs and nods to him[23:23]IronybotThe others are decidedly less impressed, and look like they find the whole situation more awkward than anything else.[23:23]MsHallMore alcohol will help with that.[23:23]MrSurridge"And you Mr. Cruise, I see you've brought guests! The more the merrier, well at least for us, I'm sure Chef Gustave won't be pleased."[23:24]MrSurridge"Don't worry, he's never pleased."[23:24]MsHallnotes blandly, "To be fair, the man complains entirely to much. One might think he had a love of his own voice."[23:25]FredrickCruisetakes a drink of his scotch[23:25]MsHallexheunt. (I need to check on dinner, or I'll just keep up the peanut gallery comments all night)[23:25]FredrickCruise(lulz)[23:26]FredrickCruisesteps over to shake Peter's hand[23:26]IronybotWith his boss' nod and Mr. Surridge addressing his presence- if indirectly- the eager man finally bursts into conversation. "It's an honor to meet you sir your books were fantastic I only started reading them a couple weeks ago but I've already finished all of them twice and bought copies for all my friends and family and when is your next one coming out and um I brought a copy of the very...[23:26]Ironybot...first one I bought and I really hope you could sign it if it wouldn't be too much trouble?"[23:29]MrSurridge"I could never say no to such enthusiasm." (Proceeds to sign with a decidely practised flourish)[23:33]MsHallreturns, bearing more scotch. A Laphroaig 31-year, this one. "With your permission, sir, it seems scotch is the drink of choice tonight. May I pour you one?" Christina includes Cruise with her eyes, but is very definitely asking Mr. Surridge.[23:33]MrSurridgegives a firm handshake to Mr. Cruise in turn. As if done the thousandth time, but with the air and gustvo of having met his first fan in the world.[23:33]MrSurridgegusto*[23:34]MsHallOh dear, I've interrupted[23:35]MrSurridgeIt's fine Ms. Hall, and yes to the scotch. I'm absolutely parched.[23:35]FredrickCruise"Thank you Ms.Hall, that would be lovely" He says after finishing the handshake [23:35]MsHalldoes not mention the state of preparations she left to see to. As such, it is of a certainty that all is set to a nicety.[23:35]MsHallSorry guys, gotta run, but I figured I'd drop off my load of pics before being NPC'd[23:35]IronybotThe man whose book was signed gives a an astonishingly broad grin and clutches the book to his chest with an air that says this is one of the greatest days of his life. Then eats an ors d'oeurve.[23:36]FredrickCruise(kaaay) [23:36]FredrickCruise(have fun guile kun) [23:40]FredrickCruise"Thank you for having me. I don't normally do this, I was just so impressed with your work, that I wanted to meet the man behind it, and *chuckle* maybe get his autograpgh" [23:41]FredrickCruiseproduces a book from his breastpocket[23:43]MrSurridgeOf course, it'd be a delight for one of this cities heroes (as he takes the book and snaps off another signature handing the book back with great care)[23:44]FredrickCruisetakes the book and deftly replaces it in his breastpocket[23:45]FredrickCruise"Well I don't know about hero, I was just doing what any good man would do in that situation" [23:45]MsHall(A man with access to enormous funds and a retinue of fanatically loyal mercenaries, anyway)[23:45]MsHall(Oh yeah, and magic)[23:46]FredrickCruise*blinks*[23:47]FredrickCruiseshakes his head slightly[23:48]MrSurridge"I must say it was quite the spectacle, do tell me how you managed to handle it all? It must have been quite a trial, you must have lost so many men."[23:50]FredrickCruiseshrugs slightly "I...just did what I had to do. There is suffering in life, but I don't really like to dwell on it. I believe that you show your strength by moving forward despite the pain, to carry on the work those left behind cannot"[23:50]FredrickCruisesighs[23:50]FredrickCruise"Well my injury took me out of active service in the force, so it might seem a bit strange to say that" [23:52]MrSurridge"Poor fellow, if you don't mind me asking-what happened?[23:52]FredrickCruise"But I haven't stopped working for the people yet" *grin* [23:53]FredrickCruise"Ah, nothing much. I was shot in the chest, near my heart. The doctors say it was a close thing. But either way, I might have survived but I can't do all the running around anymore, doctors orders" *grin* [23:53]FredrickCruise"Still can't lift my left arm over my head" [23:53]MsHall"Admirable, certainly," Hall mentions. "Mr. Surridge also contributes to the common man's good in his way. His charities are quite well thought of in those circles." Mr. Surridge, of course, has her to do his boasting FOR him.[23:56]FredrickCruise"Good man, good man. If you have the inclination, you might want to look to supporting the police force. The men and women of the force work tirelessly to protect the city and, as you can see with me, pay dearly for it every day" [23:56]FredrickCruiselooks down slightly and chuckles[23:56]FredrickCruise"Actually, this isn't what I came for, but I might as well" [23:56]FredrickCruiselooks back up, straight into Peter's face[23:57]FredrickCruise"I'm trying to form a group of powerful and influential people to garner some support for the force, so people will, ya know, cooperate more. Would you be interested in such a thing?"[23:58]MsHall"Certainly Mr. Surridge would need to know the particulars before committing," Ms. Hall interjects idly.[23:58]FredrickCruise"Nothing difficult I assure you, just a few words in front of a camera would suffice for someone as charming as yourself" [23:59]FredrickCruise"Oh well, of course I'm not asking for a commitment now" Fredrick says, turning slightly to face Ms.Hall [23:59]FredrickCruise"I'm just asking if you would be interested in seeing the police force be able to do their job better" [00:04]MrSurridge"An interesting proposition, although don't you think with the recent hardships the people of our fine city have been more than cooperative?"[00:07]MrSurridge"I've never seen them look up more highly to the force than now, but what would I know? I'm just an author, certainly not an expert on these things."[00:08]FredrickCruise*grins* [00:08]MsHall"Certainly, it is the duty of every man to want to see to the common good, and the police are essential to a safe and orderly community. And people have come forth to help as they may. How exactly would you say the police do better? Seeking more funding? Better equipment? More volunteers? A wider mandate- Martial law, perhaps?"[00:08]FredrickCruise"You would think so, but the people haven't really changed much" [00:08]FredrickCruisechuckles[00:10]FredrickCruise"Well im sure those would help, but that's not what I seek to do here. All I am trying to do is get the support of well respected people to say things like 'The police are doing a great Job, you should listen to them, cooperate and help investigations" and other things along those lines."[00:11]FredrickCruise"My hope is that when people see people like, for example, you Mr.Surridge, supporting the police force and saying things like that, that they will be more willing to help."[00:12]FredrickCruise"Now I will be actively seeking more dedicated support as long as I live, but now this is all I am looking for. I can at least do this much for the force" [00:12]FredrickCruisegets a serious look in his eyes[00:12]MsHallonce more fades into blank stiffness, judging nothing, thinking nothing, agreeing with nothing, like a statue in a smart business suit, awaiting her employer's lead.[00:13]FredrickCruise"I care about this city, I really do. But I have seen too many guilty men get away because someone refused to step forward and speak against them" [00:13]FredrickCruisesighs[00:13]FredrickCruiserubs a hand across his face[00:13]FredrickCruise"But I apologize, I am monopolizing your dinner time with unrelated issues."[00:14]MsHall(And now, Guile exheunt)[00:14]|<--MsHall has left irc.rizon.net (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)[00:17]MrSurridge"It's fine, really, ah I do believe the next course is coming in, a favorite of yours I believe" http://thelosangelesbeat.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/pork-belly.jpg[00:20]FredrickCruise(one day surridge, one day) [00:20]FredrickCruisegreets the food with a smile[00:22]MrSurridge"While I ponder you concerns Mr. Cruise, I must congratulate you on your recent business ventures, I hear you run a company now. Clam Celestial was it? I'd love to hear where you're going with that."[00:23]MrSurridge"...and offer you the number of a good tailor."[00:24]FredrickCruiselaughs out loud[00:25]FredrickCruise"Oyster Pantheons Co, yes. It's through it that I seek to make this world a better place. The tailor would be appreciated" [00:27]FredrickCruisechows down and invites his 'guests' to do the same[00:28]IronybotYour companions are more than happy to enthusiastically demolish the startlingly scrumptious provided food in a matter of seconds.[00:31]MrSurridge(Yet another course comes in, somewhere in the manor a pair of hands moves at great speed and an unheard grumble of frustation is uttered) http://flavorboulevard.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/sura-doenjang-samgyeopsal.jpg[00:33]FredrickCruisecontinues to OM NOM NOM "So if you don't mind me asking. When will your next book be out?"[00:35]MrSurridge"Oh within the next couple months I imagine, between all the...oddness as of late I've been quite busy. I have a fair number of chapters down already, but find myself always wanting for time."[00:37]FredrickCruise*nods* "Indeed, you can never have enough time"[00:37]FredrickCruise"Trust me"[00:39]MrSurridge"I'm curious, any word on what's being done to retrieve the prisoners lost in the earthquake jailbreaks?"[00:42]FredrickCruise"Ah, well, as I explained, I'm not actively serving anymore and as such, am not privy to the inner workings of the force. I'm sure that they are doing everything possible however. From what little I do hear some high profile criminals were causing trouble."[00:42]MrSurridge(To Mr. Cruise) "Oh and if your friends find themselves bored I could secure some other entertainment for them. They don't seem the bookish types."[00:44]FredrickCruise"Hmm? Oh don't worry about them. They are doing their jobs" [00:45]MrSurridge(Somewhere in the mansion scantily clad individuals sigh disappointedly)[00:46]FredrickCruise(lol) [00:47]MrSurridge(Don't worry, they'll enjoy themselves later)[00:48]MrSurridge(Bleh I feel like this is shaping up to be fairly bland)[01:10]FredrickCruiseeats the hell out of everything, everything
