[spoiler=Back-story]
As long as she can remember, Scarlet River has been an orphaned street urchin. Pick-pocketing, conning and stealing to survive with other orphaned children who she considered her family. As a child she was willful and clingy, but her natural talent at theft made the others look the other way, or endure her smothering habits. When puberty hit, her shows of affections grew increasingly inappropriate. But they endured, and some even grew to yearn for it when their own puberty started.

Ivory Star was her best friend, a year or two older than Scarlet River, her name alluding to her pure white hair. They were thick as thieves and were rarely found far from each other.

But things wouldn’t last. A break-in at a Guild merchant’s storehouse went wrong and in a moment of hesitation Ivory Star was struck down before Scarlet River’s eyes. She fled, not hurt and despairing at Ivory Star’s death. Seven Iron Strings, the bisclavaret offering her the tainted Infernal Exaltation barely had to explain its offering before she accepted it.[/spoiler]
