Anonymous is not an organization; that requires hierarchy, leadership, and — most importantly — organization. The critics and media conveniently ignore this truth. There is no membership requirement, no application, and the only lists of participants are compiled by law enforcement agencies who shit their pants when faced with the truth that you and I have the power to stand united against them.

So what, then, is Anonymous? You are Anonymous. I am Anonymous. Freedom is Anonymous.

Anonymous is not an organization, it is an idea: that the everyman can stand strong in the face of oppression, that governments and corporations are accountable for their lies, that there is strength and solidarity in numbers.

People participate in many activities in the name of Anonymous. They hack websites, leak information, participate in distributed denial of service attacks, protest in the streets, and spread information. None of this is done at the direction of leadership. All of it is voluntary.

Anonymous doesn't DO anything; people do things Anonymously.
