  1. [22:19] <TornSkippito> ==Start==
  2. [22:19] * distantBellicose began espering mournfulLyricist
  3. [22:20] <TornSkippito> Mira, roll perception
  4. [22:20] <mournfulLyricist> Ok, one moment~
  5. [22:20] <distantBellicose> ((whups. don't mind me))
  6. [22:21] <TornSkippito> ((perception is because last I heard your face was on your keyboard.))
  7. [22:21] <mournfulLyricist> !roll 1d20+1
  8. [22:21] <Tyche[Dice]> mournfulLyricist rolled : 1d20+1 --> [ 1d20=6 ]{7}
  9. [22:21] <TornSkippito> nothing, other than a chat ping
  10. [22:21] <distantBellicose> Mira!
  11. [22:21] <distantBellicose> Mira! Wake up!
  12. [22:22] <mournfulLyricist> hello yes
  13. [22:22] <mournfulLyricist> i am currently alive
  14. [22:22] <distantBellicose> Ah! Good! I was worried you had actually just died from not eating. Or breathing.
  15. [22:23] <mournfulLyricist> that would be way too easy
  16. [22:23] <mournfulLyricist> and not unfortunate enough
  17. [22:23] <distantBellicose> What, not eating/breathing? I dunno. One sec.
  18. [22:23] <distantBellicose> Yeah, I tried it, and not breathing is actually REALLY HARD.
  19. [22:24] <distantBellicose> I dunno about eating, because I'm not hungry right now. I'll get back to you though.
  20. [22:24] <mournfulLyricist> ah science
  21. [22:24] <mournfulLyricist> i believe that when i die it will be far more unlucky
  22. [22:24] <mournfulLyricist> speaking of which i have a virus game on my computer
  23. [22:24] <mournfulLyricist> so if i vanish assume my computer exploded and caught fire
  24. [22:24] <mournfulLyricist> possibly with me
  25. [22:25] <mournfulLyricist> probably
  26. [22:25] <distantBellicose> No, I can see you right now.
  27. [22:25] <distantBellicose> I got a goofy little UI and everything framing you.
  28. [22:25] <distantBellicose> Like a family picture.
  29. [22:25] <distantBellicose> But you're the only person in it.
  30. [22:25] <distantBellicose> And you REALLY don't wanna be in it.
  31. [22:25] <TornSkippito> ((Did not realize connection already happened.))
  32. [22:26] <mournfulLyricist> what
  33. [22:26] <TornSkippito> Cade, you see the standard Sburb UI, with all the options you would expect.
  34. [22:26] <distantBellicose> Yup. Hang on.
  35. [22:26] <TornSkippito> Well, Cade wouldn't expect them. You do though.
  36. [22:26] * distantBellicose sent screencap.png
  37. [22:26] <distantBellicose> Thaaaaaaaaat's you!
  38. [22:27] <mournfulLyricist> she does have that gray faced look of despondence and weariness at existance that suits me
  39. [22:27] <TornSkippito> Mira, roll perception
  40. [22:27] <mournfulLyricist> that doesnt tell me why
  41. [22:27] <mournfulLyricist> !roll 1d20+1
  42. [22:27] <Tyche[Dice]> mournfulLyricist rolled : 1d20+1 --> [ 1d20=14 ]{15}
  43. [22:27] <TornSkippito> You here a muffled thump from outside your window
  44. [22:27] <TornSkippito> hear*
  45. [22:27] <TornSkippito> ((wow, I can spell))
  46. [22:28] <mournfulLyricist> cade if youre going to oggle a ladys room
  47. [22:28] <mournfulLyricist> could you check and see if a bear is climbing up my window
  48. [22:28] <mournfulLyricist> to maul me
  49. [22:28] <distantBellicose> I highly doubt that, but I'll check all the same!
  50. [22:28] <TornSkippito> It also sounds like it might be raining outside.
  51. [22:28] <distantBellicose> -cade moves the camera view outside-
  52. [22:29] <TornSkippito> Outside, there are numberous tiny objects falling from a sky that is abnormally red. A rock about the size of a pingpong ball just landed, making a tiny crater.
  53. [22:29] <TornSkippito> there are very rough pebbles littered all over the smoking grass
  54. [22:30] <TornSkippito> where there is grass, that is.
  55. [22:30] <distantBellicose> "Oh. Rats!"
  56. [22:30] <distantBellicose> Okay, Mira. You gotta move. I think this has something to do with this game.
  57. [22:30] <distantBellicose> -Cade starts clicking and deploying things. This is what Jack did, right?-
  58. [22:30] <mournfulLyricist> the bear wants to kill me because i have a virus
  59. [22:31] <mournfulLyricist> i want you to know
  60. [22:31] <mournfulLyricist> that if i could transmit disbelief with text
  61. [22:31] <mournfulLyricist> i would be
  62. [22:31] <mournfulLyricist> so much
  63. [22:31] <TornSkippito> Please deploy things individually
  64. [22:32] <distantBellicose> Okay. Let's do them in something approximating the order Jack did them, starting withthe Cruxtruder.
  65. [22:32] <TornSkippito> Options: Alchimeter, Cruxtruder, Totem Lathe, Punch Designix
  66. [22:32] <TornSkippito> You place the cruxtruder in Mira's room, it takes up most of the space.
  67. [22:32] <mournfulLyricist> oh god
  68. [22:32] <mournfulLyricist> what
  69. [22:32] <distantBellicose> Yeesh. Not much space here, huh?
  70. [22:32] <TornSkippito> Mira, please give a layout of your orphanage, or at least the nearby parts.
  71. [22:32] <mournfulLyricist> where am i supposed to flop on my face now cade
  72. [22:33] <mournfulLyricist> im stuck in prime shelf crushing territory
  73. [22:33] <distantBellicose> You know, you can flop on your face AFTER we get you out of this.
  74. [22:33] <distantBellicose> Right now, I just need you to BEAR with me. Geddit? Cause bears?
  75. [22:33] <distantBellicose> No?
  76. [22:33] <distantBellicose> Okay.
  77. [22:33] <distantBellicose> Anyway!
  78. [22:34] <distantBellicose> -Cade picks a place that's a little better to place the totem lathe. Maybe the foyer of the orphanage?
  79. [22:35] <mournfulLyricist> Mira is on the second floor of the orphanage, at the far end of the hallway. It's filled with rooms just like hers, though with various children and toys spilling out into the hallway, along with various, less depressed children of various ages. Or it would be, if the various children hadn't gone in the meantime to watch movies in the basement, because of the rain~
  80. [22:36] <distantBellicose> Okay. Let's put this thing in the neighboring room.
  81. [22:36] <TornSkippito> ((http://cdn.meme.am/instances2/500x/4159107.jpg))
  82. [22:36] <TornSkippito> You place the lathe in the neighbor's room. It takes up a good chunk of the room there. However, nobody is there at the moment.
  83. [22:37] <distantBellicose> I think we have a system here, Mira
  84. [22:37] <mournfulLyricist> (I wanted to get rid of other people so it wouldn't complicate things, if that's fine)
  85. [22:37] <TornSkippito> ((Its fine. :P ))
  86. [22:37] <mournfulLyricist> that sounds worrying
  87. [22:37] <distantBellicose> -Cade gently places the pre-punched card on Mira's desk-
  88. [22:37] <distantBellicose> Well, Mira, what IS worrying is the crapton of meteors outside.
  89. [22:37] <TornSkippito> The card appears to the right of mira's mouse hand
  90. [22:38] <mournfulLyricist> meteors
  91. [22:38] <distantBellicose> Okay, Mira, try turning the wheel of the nice thing I put in your room.
  92. [22:38] <distantBellicose> And yes, Meteors.
  93. [22:38] <mournfulLyricist> so im going to explode
  94. [22:38] <mournfulLyricist> called it
  95. [22:38] <distantBellicose> Meteors potentially the size of Texas.
  96. [22:38] <distantBellicose> And you can't say you "called it" when you've "called" literally every potential death known to man!
  97. [22:39] <mournfulLyricist> i think i just did
  98. [22:39] <mournfulLyricist> but impending doom aside
  99. [22:39] <distantBellicose> Dangit, Mira, that's not good gambling! That's like marking all the answers on a multiple choice question and saying you got it right!
  100. [22:39] <mournfulLyricist> i guess i dont have time to understand what im doing
  101. [22:39] <TornSkippito> The orphanage shakes slightly as a larger meteor lands a short ways away from the orphanage.
  102. [22:40] <mournfulLyricist> that felt bad
  103. [22:40] <mournfulLyricist> right
  104. [22:40] <distantBellicose> And if *I'M* answering the multiple choice question, "how does mira die, cade?" *I'M* marking "Old Age!"
  105. [22:40] <mournfulLyricist> wheel turning
  106. [22:40] <mournfulLyricist> Mira gets up and shuffles over towards the new machines, trying to up and turn the wheel
  107. [22:40] <TornSkippito> roll strength
  108. [22:40] <mournfulLyricist> !roll 1d20+3
  109. [22:40] <Tyche[Dice]> mournfulLyricist rolled : 1d20+3 --> [ 1d20=13 ]{16}
  110. [22:41] <TornSkippito> The wheel resists for a bit, but then suddenly gives. The top flies off of the chimney-looking thing, and a {text-color} cylinder flies out, as well as a weird glowey orby thing with a spirograph on it
  111. [22:42] <distantBellicose> Sweet, baby!
  112. [22:42] <TornSkippito> ((btw, what is your text color? I don't remember :P))
  113. [22:42] <distantBellicose> Now, throw something at the glowey orby thingy!
  114. [22:42] <mournfulLyricist> (Mira's text color is 'i hate life so my text is default black')
  115. [22:42] <TornSkippito> ((Got it.))
  116. [22:42] <distantBellicose> ((That's... actually quite ominous))
  117. [22:43] <mournfulLyricist> (^_^)
  118. [22:43] <mournfulLyricist> throw something
  119. [22:43] <mournfulLyricist> well this makes perfect sense
  120. [22:43] <mournfulLyricist> just something
  121. [22:44] <mournfulLyricist> will i lose this something
  122. [22:44] <mournfulLyricist> i like things
  123. [22:44] <TornSkippito> The roof starts pinging from lots of tiny impacts
  124. [22:44] <distantBellicose> Most likely.
  125. [22:44] <distantBellicose> Mira, WE'VE GOT TO GO.
  126. [22:44] <mournfulLyricist> right yes
  127. [22:44] <mournfulLyricist> impending fiery destruction
  128. [22:45] <TornSkippito> ((Welp, just rolled a 1 for schenanigans. Sorry guys))
  129. [22:45] <mournfulLyricist> well lets use this one its my own copy
  130. [22:46] <mournfulLyricist> Mira starts to trundle over towards her shelves to pick something out when-
  131. [22:46] <TornSkippito> Suddenly, the power goes out.
  132. [22:46] <mournfulLyricist> (Shenanigans away)
  133. [22:46] <mournfulLyricist> oh
  134. [22:47] <mournfulLyricist> well
  135. [22:47] <distantBellicose> -Cade lights a cigarette- I can make this work.
  136. [22:47] <TornSkippito> Somehow, your computer is still running without any power. Unfortunately, the internet is now down.
  137. [22:47] <mournfulLyricist> doom time
  138. [22:47] <mournfulLyricist> (Well, it's a laptop. So I guess that makes sense)
  139. [22:47] <TornSkippito> ((Ah, I thought it was a desktop. In that case, it doesn't matter :P ))
  140. [22:48] <distantBellicose> -Cade deploys the alchemiter in the last room, and tries to think-
  141. [22:48] <distantBellicose> "She's not getting my messages... Hm."
  142. [22:48] <TornSkippito> The alchimeter fails to be placed. The game says --ERROR: CONNECTION LOST--
  143. [22:48] <distantBellicose> "RATS!"
  144. [22:50] <mournfulLyricist> Mira, calm and gloomy as ever, starts to walk out of her room. There was always a solution... Probably. She'd go to the fuse box and see if anything had shorted out.
  145. [22:51] <TornSkippito> Upon arriving at the fuse box's location, you find a hole in a ceiling, and a medium sized rock in a metal house. Looks like it found a new home.
  146. [22:51] <mournfulLyricist> how appropriate
  147. [22:51] <mournfulLyricist> i wish there was someone here to appreciate how the universe is trying to kill me in particular
  148. [22:52] <TornSkippito> You hear the thumping of feet of a multitude of movie-interrupting kids heading to check on the fuse box
  149. [22:52] <TornSkippito> movie-interrupted*
  150. [22:53] <mournfulLyricist> Well... The only solution left is to borrow someone elses's wifi. She'd borrow some to not die. Mira gives the kids a gloomy look and explains that. "the power is probably out for a while now..."
  151. [22:53] <distantBellicose> "Oh, man. This is gonna get ugly."
  152. [22:54] <TornSkippito> !roll 1d20 kids perception
  153. [22:54] <Tyche[Dice]> TornSkippito rolled : 1d20 kids perception --> [ 1d20=3 ]{3}
  154. [22:54] <TornSkippito> The kids look at you, then the rock, then at you again.
  155. [22:55] <TornSkippito> Then they all start yelling about how you ruined the power and interrupted the movie.
  156. [22:55] <mournfulLyricist> yes it was me
  157. [22:55] <mournfulLyricist> i dropped a meteor from the sky on the power
  158. [22:55] <mournfulLyricist> i am a spooky magic person
  159. [22:55] <mournfulLyricist> fear me
  160. [22:55] <mournfulLyricist> lest i curse you
  161. [22:55] <distantBellicose> "AUGH!"
  162. [22:55] <TornSkippito> um, roll intimidation?
  163. [22:56] <mournfulLyricist> It's sarcasm ^_^
  164. [22:56] <mournfulLyricist> But sure.
  165. [22:56] <mournfulLyricist> !roll 1d20-1
  166. [22:56] <TornSkippito> doesn't matter, they rolled a 3 on perception :P
  167. [22:56] <Tyche[Dice]> mournfulLyricist rolled : 1d20-1 --> [ 1d20=4 ]{3}
  168. [22:56] <speedingCyclone> ((lol))
  169. [22:56] <TornSkippito> The two regular bullies go to the front.
  170. [22:56] <TornSkippito> "Normally, you aren't any fun to beat up."
  171. [22:56] <TornSkippito> "But you deserve it this time."
  172. [22:57] <TornSkippito> The other kids cheer them on.
  173. [22:57] <distantBellicose> -Cade pounds his fists on his desk- "ARGH! THOSE LITTLE RATS!"
  174. [22:58] <TornSkippito> !roll 1d20 initiation bullies
  175. [22:58] <Tyche[Dice]> TornSkippito rolled : 1d20 initiation bullies --> [ 1d20=7 ]{7}
  176. [22:58] <TornSkippito> if you roll higher, you can leave if you like.
  177. [22:58] <mournfulLyricist> Higher on what?
  178. [22:58] <TornSkippito> initiation.
  179. [22:58] <mournfulLyricist> !roll 1d20-1
  180. [22:58] <Tyche[Dice]> mournfulLyricist rolled : 1d20-1 --> [ 1d20=2 ]{1}
  181. [22:58] <mournfulLyricist> I'm assuming that means intimidation.
  182. [22:58] <distantBellicose> Holy crap, Kriema
  183. [22:58] <mournfulLyricist> And no.
  184. [22:58] <mournfulLyricist> You're saying Mira has bad luck?
  185. [22:59] <distantBellicose> He means initiative
  186. [22:59] <mournfulLyricist> Oh~
  187. [22:59] <mournfulLyricist> That's Dex.
  188. [22:59] <TornSkippito> You can either keep the roll or roll again :P
  189. [22:59] <mournfulLyricist> Eheheh.
  190. [22:59] <mournfulLyricist> Yay ^_^
  191. [22:59] <mournfulLyricist> !roll 1d20+2
  192. [22:59] <Tyche[Dice]> mournfulLyricist rolled : 1d20+2 --> [ 1d20=17 ]{19}
  193. [22:59] <TornSkippito> also the wrong mod.
  194. [23:00] <mournfulLyricist> Oh woops >_<
  195. [23:00] <mournfulLyricist> Wrong character's dex.
  196. [23:00] <mournfulLyricist> Yeah, hers is 0.
  197. [23:00] <mournfulLyricist> !roll 1d20
  198. [23:00] <Tyche[Dice]> mournfulLyricist rolled : 1d20 --> [ 1d20=7 ]{7}
  199. [23:00] <mournfulLyricist> I don't know what to do anymore ^_^

  205. [23:00] <mournfulLyricist> so shoo

  214. [23:08] <distantBellicose> Just mourned your departure.
  215. [23:08] <mournfulLyricist> That was all.
  216. [23:08] <TornSkippito_> You walk past the bullies, your standing up to them for once suprising them long enough for you to get past.
  217. [23:08] <TornSkippito_> You arrive back in your room, and there is now a timer on the tall machine with the floating orb and cylinder next to it

  223. [23:11] <mournfulLyricist> Mira breaks into something resembling a sprint, rushing her laptop to the roof, trying to set it up to find a wifi signal, rain dripping down on her.
  224. [23:11] <TornSkippito> This hurts a lot more than rain... are they tiny rocks?
  225. [23:11] <TornSkippito> !roll 1d20 nearby wifi signals

  227. [23:11] <TornSkippito> You find a one-bar connection to an unsecured point titled "iPhone"
  228. [23:12] <mournfulLyricist> thank you mysterious phone person you saved me from exploding
  229. [23:12] <mournfulLyricist> Mira attempts to reconnect to the internet
  230. [23:13] <TornSkippito> you successfully connect, but the signal wavers between one and zero bars.
  231. [23:13] <TornSkippito> Dang, these rocks hurt. If they hit your screen too much it could be an issue.
  232. [23:13] <distantBellicose> MIRA
  233. [23:13] <distantBellicose> I have connection!
  234. [23:14] <distantBellicose> I'm deploying the last piece of equipment.

  238. [23:14] <mournfulLyricist> both is good
  239. [23:14] <distantBellicose> Throw something at that ball, grab the card and rod, take it to the lathe, and stick the rod and the card in their appropriate slots. Then, take that carved up rod to the alchemiter, it'll be in the last room of the hallway.
  240. [23:15] <distantBellicose> Put the rod on the raised platform, push the button, and GO.
  241. [23:15] <mournfulLyricist> i have a few posters in my room of gloomy people in the rain
  242. [23:15] <mournfulLyricist> use those or something

  252. [23:16] <mournfulLyricist> (One sec)
  253. [23:17] <mournfulLyricist> Mira starts to run down to her room, actually moving for once, grabbing a toy soldier from the ground as she passes back, ducking down and chucking it inelegantly at the sphere as she gets to her room to grab the various objects Cade mentioned.
  254. [23:18] <TornSkippito> roll to hit dex
  255. [23:18] <mournfulLyricist> !roll 1d20
  256. [23:18] <Tyche[Dice]> mournfulLyricist rolled : 1d20 --> [ 1d20=6 ]{6}
  257. [23:18] <TornSkippito> not well practiced at throwing, you toss it right out the window.
  258. [23:18] <TornSkippito> Whoops, so much for that.
  259. [23:18] <distantBellicose> ((Christ God in heaven))
  260. [23:19] <TornSkippito> ((That was not a prototype denial. It was a good prototype, you just missed. :P ))
  261. [23:19] <distantBellicose> ((If it weren't literally impossible to fail an entry, I'd be freaking out right now))
  262. [23:20] <TornSkippito> ((Who said it wasn't impossible? If she stopped trying to succeed, I would have it kill her.))
  263. [23:20] <mournfulLyricist> i hate everything
  264. [23:20] <mournfulLyricist> i really do
  265. [23:20] <distantBellicose> Try again.
  266. [23:20] <mournfulLyricist> Mira dashes out of the window and scoops up a doll instead, taking a moment to aim it before glumly tossing it at the sphere again.
  267. [23:20] <TornSkippito> The second story window....
  268. [23:21] <mournfulLyricist> Erm.
  269. [23:21] <mournfulLyricist> My brain.
  270. [23:21] <mournfulLyricist> I meant out of the door into the hall.
  271. [23:21] <TornSkippito> got it. :P
  272. [23:21] <mournfulLyricist> Sorry, I was thinking of windows~
  273. [23:21] <mournfulLyricist> Just a random toy doll from the hall, no time for good decisions ^_^
  274. [23:21] <TornSkippito> The doll also misses the sphere, and lands in your room in a heap. ((We already have a doll proto))
  275. [23:22] <mournfulLyricist> cade i hate everything right now
  276. [23:22] <TornSkippito> You do however have the two objects.
  277. [23:22] <distantBellicose> You always hate everything.
  278. [23:22] <mournfulLyricist> more than usual
  279. [23:23] <TornSkippito> the pinging on the roof gets a bit louder
  280. [23:23] <mournfulLyricist> Giving up on having things she enjoys, Mira takes one of her gothic poetry books and hurls them at the sphere, quietly lamenting her loss, trying not to look at the cover.
  281. [23:23] <TornSkippito> roll to hit, dex.
  282. [23:23] <mournfulLyricist> !roll 1d20
  283. [23:23] <Tyche[Dice]> mournfulLyricist rolled : 1d20 --> [ 1d20=2 ]{2}
  284. [23:23] <TornSkippito> ((You can always come back to proto a bit later if it fails))
  285. [23:23] <mournfulLyricist> why ;-;
  286. [23:24] <TornSkippito> Lamenting so much, you kind of just drop it on the floor.
  287. [23:24] <mournfulLyricist> cade use your fancy cursor thing and just put something in there
  288. [23:24] <mournfulLyricist> that doll fell outside
  289. [23:24] <mournfulLyricist> something
  290. [23:25] <distantBellicose> I'm a little fed up with shitty dice rolls. Can I just empty the contents of the bookcase into it? See what gets proto'd amongst all the books?
  291. [23:25] <TornSkippito> You could easily proto anything right now with the cursor.
  292. [23:25] <TornSkippito> No roll involved.
  293. [23:25] <TornSkippito> You will see why in a moment.
  294. [23:25] <TornSkippito> if you try.
  295. [23:26] <TornSkippito> I did not intend for the proto to be this hard.
  296. [23:26] <distantBellicose> -Cade selects the book she just dropped, and gives it an emphatic shove towards the kernel-
  297. [23:27] <distantBellicose> -...not that he knows that's what it's called, obviously. Still!-
  298. [23:27] <TornSkippito> The book struggles to keep up with your cursor. Your connection is barely working, and packets are dropping left and right! the book moves in one meter jumps.
  299. [23:27] <TornSkippito> Using the lag to your advantage, you move the book into the orb in one lagspike, leaving no time to dodge!
  300. [23:27] <TornSkippito> A large white flash occurs!
  301. [23:28] <TornSkippito> ((Okay, I honestly don't know what to call this thing, gimme a minute.))
  302. [23:28] <distantBellicose> ((Hm.))
  303. [23:29] <distantBellicose> ((Baudelairesprite? After Charles Baudelaire, who wrote some of the grodiest poetry of all time?))
  304. [23:29] <mournfulLyricist> (Sure ^_^)
  305. [23:29] <distantBellicose> "It's Ennui!β€”his eye brimming with spontaneous tear
  306. [23:29] <distantBellicose> He dreams of the gallows in the haze of his hookah.
  307. [23:29] <distantBellicose> You know him, reader, this delicate monster,
  308. [23:29] <distantBellicose> Hypocritical reader, my likeness, my brother!"
  309. [23:30] <TornSkippito> ((Also went to the bathroom, and this is more generic than something like that.))
  310. [23:30] <TornSkippito> When the flash fades, the orb appears to have a book inside, with small tendrils of smoke ocassionally coming out of it
  311. [23:30] <TornSkippito> you have created DarkVerseSprite!
  312. [23:31] <mournfulLyricist> ominous
  313. [23:31] <mournfulLyricist> im going to go not die now hopefully
  314. [23:31] <distantBellicose> Remember what I told you!
  315. [23:31] <mournfulLyricist> Mira takes the card and the rod and shuffles over to the next room, to insert them as per instruction into various doo dad slots.
  316. [23:32] <TornSkippito> The objects are placed correctly
  317. [23:32] <TornSkippito> You figure you have 1:45 remaining.
  318. [23:33] <mournfulLyricist> what now
  319. [23:34] <TornSkippito> a button glows on the machine
  320. [23:34] <distantBellicose> Activate the doodad!
  321. [23:34] <mournfulLyricist> Mira is standing in front of the Alchemitter with her carved rod, slouching.
  322. [23:34] <mournfulLyricist> > Push glowing buttons aplenty
  323. [23:34] <TornSkippito> the machine carves the cylinder, making some kind of carving.
  324. [23:35] <mournfulLyricist> right next room now right?
  325. [23:35] <mournfulLyricist> Mira awkwardly carries the object to the next room with her laptop, feeling the terrible urge to flop on her face and rest from all this for a while
  326. [23:35] <distantBellicose> Yup.
  327. [23:36] <distantBellicose> Last room.
  328. [23:36] <TornSkippito> In the next room, there is an eight your old boy curled up on his bed and crying. Filling up the entire room, and having crushed his desk, is a very wide and flat machine with a pedestal and a main platform
  329. [23:37] <mournfulLyricist> sorry...
  330. [23:37] <mournfulLyricist> i didnt do this
  331. [23:37] <mournfulLyricist> dont mind me
  332. [23:37] <mournfulLyricist> just trying to not die
  333. [23:38] <TornSkippito> the boy continues crying, either not hearing you or not being stable enough to respond.
  334. [23:38] <mournfulLyricist> Mira looks for a place to insert her carved cylinder, respecting the small child's decision to proceed moping
  335. [23:39] <distantBellicose> Almost there. Not much further.
  336. [23:39] <TornSkippito> The cylinder would fit perfectly on the taller, smaller pedestal
  337. [23:39] <TornSkippito> -- connection lost --
  338. [23:39] <distantBellicose> "Tch! Figures!"
  339. [23:40] <mournfulLyricist> Mira disregards the waning net for now, and slips it onto the tall pedastal, standing on the ruins of the boy's life. Appropriate, probably.
  340. [23:41] <TornSkippito> As soon as you place it, a laser scans the carved cylinder, and a screen lights up. It shows a blue gusher and a green zero next to it. A button underneath is lit up
  341. [23:41] <mournfulLyricist> more buttons yay
  342. [23:41] <mournfulLyricist> one will blow things up
  343. [23:41] <mournfulLyricist> eventually
  344. [23:42] <mournfulLyricist> > Press the button.
  345. [23:42] <distantBellicose> "Time to watch the fireworks."
  346. [23:42] <TornSkippito> Pressing the button, the carved cylinder dissapears and a black magnifying glass appears on the large platform
  347. [23:43] <distantBellicose> "What's she s'posed to do with THAT?!"
  348. [23:45] <mournfulLyricist> Mira picks up the magnifying glass, trying to peer at her surrounding with it.
  349. [23:45] <mournfulLyricist> *surroundings
  350. [23:46] <TornSkippito> As usual, the magnifying glass magnifies close-up objects
  351. [23:46] <TornSkippito> roll perception
  352. [23:46] <mournfulLyricist> !roll 1d20+1
  353. [23:46] <Tyche[Dice]> mournfulLyricist rolled : 1d20+1 --> [ 1d20=19 ]{20}
  354. [23:46] <mournfulLyricist> Woooo~
  355. [23:47] <TornSkippito> Small meteorites pound the ground outside, and the sky is a bright red as the sun and the heat from rocks from astmospheric entry intermingle. The mix of the two sources of light streams through the window. If the rocks get much bigger, the roof may not be able to hold up.
  356. [23:47] <TornSkippito> 50 seconds
  357. [23:49] <mournfulLyricist> Mira takes the magnifying glass over towards her DarkVerseSprite, waving it towards the book dolefully and trying to look through it again.
  358. [23:49] <mournfulLyricist> what am i supposed to do with this game
  359. [23:49] <TornSkippito> back in the other room, connection is regained.
  360. [23:49] <TornSkippito> The reddish light also streams in from the window
  361. [23:50] <distantBellicose> -Cade has amassed a suitably large pile of cigarette butts next to him. Jack would be furious at the sight.-
  362. [23:51] <TornSkippito> -- Connection Restablished --
  363. [23:51] <TornSkippito> 44 seconds
  364. [23:51] <distantBellicose> It's your ride, kid. Drive it home.
  365. [23:51] <mournfulLyricist> that is very much unhelpful
  366. [23:51] <mournfulLyricist> what do people do with magnifying glasses
  367. [23:51] <mournfulLyricist> er
  368. [23:52] <distantBellicose> Well, you just gotta figure out what to do with that thing in the next 40 seconds.
  369. [23:52] <distantBellicose> Should be a snap, right?
  370. [23:52] <mournfulLyricist> Mira tries awkwardly to angle the red light through the magnifying glass, enhancing it.
  371. [23:53] <TornSkippito> focusing the ray of light onto a single point, A page of a diary appears underneath it.
  372. [23:53] <TornSkippito> 35 seconds
  373. [23:54] <TornSkippito> the point begins to warm the center of the page.
  374. [23:54] <TornSkippito> 30 seconds.
  375. [23:54] <TornSkippito> the page begins to smoke
  376. [23:54] <TornSkippito> 25 seconds.
  377. [23:55] <TornSkippito> an ember appears, and the magnifying glass becomes opaque.
  378. [23:55] <mournfulLyricist> Mira keeps the magnifying glass focused on the page, trying to make out words.
  379. [23:55] <TornSkippito> 20 seconds
  380. [23:55] <TornSkippito> The words are some child's plans for the next day, and hopes of adoption
  381. [23:55] <TornSkippito> right as the magnifying glass goes solid, a tiny flame appears.
  382. [23:56] <mournfulLyricist> Mira leans forward to look closely at the flame. frowning.
  383. [23:57] <TornSkippito> the flame stars slowly burning the page
  384. [23:57] <TornSkippito> 16 seconds.
  385. [23:58] <mournfulLyricist> Mira tries to blow on it gently, to stir the fire, hoping that her curse wouldn't ruin it instead.
  386. [23:58] <TornSkippito> the fire grows a bit, and starts consuming more of the page
  387. [23:58] <TornSkippito> 12 seconds.
  388. [23:58] <TornSkippito> 1/3 of the page is burned.
  389. [23:58] <distantBellicose> -Cade begins helpfully blowing on the screen-
  390. [23:59] <distantBellicose> -Cade hopes it helps in some small way-
  391. [23:59] <TornSkippito> 9 seconds. 1/2 of the page is burned
  392. [23:59] <distantBellicose> -Cade blows harder-
  393. [23:59] <TornSkippito> 4 seconds, 2/3 of the page is burned
  394. [23:59] <distantBellicose> "C'MON, DANGIT! WE AIN'T GOT ALL DAY YOU LOUSY EMBER."
  395. [00:00] <TornSkippito> 2 seconds, 5/6 of the page is burned.
  396. [00:00] <TornSkippito> 0 seconds, the page is all but one scrap burned.
  397. [00:01] <mournfulLyricist> thanks for trying anyway cade
  398. [00:01] <distantBellicose> -Cade ignites his zippo and brings it to the screen-
  399. [00:01] <TornSkippito> Elsewhere in the orphanages, a giant explosion sounds
  400. [00:01] <TornSkippito> the whole building shakes, and right as Mira is about to be consumed by flame, the last scrap of paper finished burning
  401. [00:01] <TornSkippito> everything goes white.
  402. [00:02] <TornSkippito> eventually, sight returns.
  403. [00:02] <TornSkippito> Two walls are gone, and the orphanage beyond is almost entirely destroyed.
  404. [00:02] <TornSkippito> Only the two other rooms nearby are intact.
  405. [00:03] <distantBellicose> -Cade whistles.-
  406. [00:03] <TornSkippito> Outside, there is a peaceful river going past, and it is sunny and warm out.
  407. [00:03] <distantBellicose> Man, your home looks like it's seen better days.
  408. [00:03] <TornSkippito> Welcome to your land, which I will not tell you the name of at the moment.
  409. [00:04] <mournfulLyricist> cade
  410. [00:05] <mournfulLyricist> is this my fault
  411. [00:05] <distantBellicose> Well
  412. [00:05] <mournfulLyricist> for installing the game and all
  413. [00:05] <distantBellicose> No. I don't *think* it's your fault.
  414. [00:05] <mournfulLyricist> or just cosmic punishment for being me
  415. [00:05] <distantBellicose> I don't think anyone's punishing you for anything.
  416. [00:05] <distantBellicose> ((Punished "Venom" Mira: A Fallen Girl... on her face))
  417. [00:08] <mournfulLyricist> really
  418. [00:08] <mournfulLyricist> so im just cursed in general
  419. [00:08] <mournfulLyricist> for no reason
  420. [00:08] <mournfulLyricist> i think thats worse
  421. [00:08] <distantBellicose> No. You're not cursed!
  422. [00:08] <distantBellicose> Dangit, just-
  423. [00:08] <distantBellicose> Look at all of this!
  424. [00:09] <distantBellicose> Everything is quiet and beautiful and currently not falling out of the sky onto your head!
  425. [00:11] <mournfulLyricist> as opposed to five minutes ago
  426. [00:11] <mournfulLyricist> give it time
  427. [00:11] <distantBellicose> Look, you've got to find time to enjoy these moments.
  428. [00:11] <distantBellicose> Because I'm in a literal war zone.
  429. [00:12] <distantBellicose> It's, uh, a little real, if you catch my drift.
  430. [00:12] <mournfulLyricist> im sorry for that
  431. [00:12] <mournfulLyricist> oh
  432. [00:13] <mournfulLyricist> i need to help people do this too dont i
  433. [00:13] <mournfulLyricist> thats what they were talking about
  434. [00:13] <mournfulLyricist> i think ill fall on my face for a moment then go do that
  435. [00:13] <mournfulLyricist> then maybe fall over for a few days
  436. [00:14] * distantBellicose sighs
  437. [00:14] <distantBellicose> Maybe one day, kid. Maybe one day.
  438. [00:14] <mournfulLyricist> thanks for stopping me from dying cade
  439. [00:14] <mournfulLyricist> its a marginally better alternative
  440. [00:15] <distantBellicose> Yeah.
  441. [00:15] <distantBellicose> Just don't redeem your death bingo card yet.
  442. [00:17] <mournfulLyricist> that doesnt make sense
  443. [00:17] <mournfulLyricist> wouldnt i need to die in lots of different ways for a death bingo card
  444. [00:17] <distantBellicose> Nope.
  445. [00:17] <distantBellicose> Funny story about death bingo:
  446. [00:17] <distantBellicose> You only need to die once to hit "bingo."
  447. [00:19] <mournfulLyricist> this seems like a very dreadful game
  448. [00:20] <distantBellicose> Eh, it's probably not as dreadful as Zaroff's game.
  449. [00:21] <mournfulLyricist> whats that one
  450. [00:22] <distantBellicose> Zaroff's game, his quarry, was man. People. He hunted people. It's a very old story.
  451. [00:24] <mournfulLyricist> ill have to read about it some day
  452. [00:24] <mournfulLyricist> it sounds gloomy
  453. [00:26] <distantBellicose> I'm actually sure you'll hate it. Never ever read it. Okay? I've got to go. Apparently, I've got to help the cat resistance win the cat civil war.
  454. [00:26] <mournfulLyricist> good luck
  455. [00:26] <mournfulLyricist> ill not let other people suffer
  456. [00:26] <mournfulLyricist> probably by not moving
  457. [00:26] <mournfulLyricist> bye
  458. [00:27] <distantBellicose> I'll be back for you!
  459. [00:27] * distantBellicose has ceased espering mournfulLyricist
