The most commonly referred to network management client within the BDO foreign community is SoftEther, so that's what we'll be using!

Download & Install SoftEther VPN Client + VPN Gate Client Plugin

1. Create a New Virtual Network Adapter
2. Connect to a Japanese VPN by double-clicking 'VPN Gate Public VPN Relay Servers' and finding a Japanese server (suggest minimal users & high link speed if not using WTFast (see later section))

You game must be patched to the latest version for this to run, meaning you must have the client installed *and patched* which can only happen after logging in and loading up the game for the first time.

:: WTFast ::

WTFast allows you to stay connected to the game client and disconnect your VPN, so you can restore your normal connection outside of the client while having an improved latency and stability that doesn't rely on random VPNs in Japan.

Download: https://www.wtfast.com/
Setup:
1. Select 'Custom Games' and Add
2. Name it, and Browse for 'Game executable file'
3. Find your game client's installation and select either BlackDesert32.exe or BlackDesert64.exe
        found within the bin/bin64 folders (you're likely wanting/playing the 64-bit version)
4. Ok!

_Running with BDO:
1. Under Network select to Manually customize network route.
2. Find Japan/Tokyo and select a server (such as JP4).
3. Start the game client with your VPN connected.
4. Disconnect the VPN once you're on the title screen.
5. Hit Play! on WTFast and you're good to go.
*Disconnected/crashed? Try a different WTFast server.

_(Alternate Running with BDO if issues):
*Make sure your custom game is selected, and be connected to your Japanese VPN.
1. Under Network select to Manually customize network route.
2. Find Japan/Tokyo and select a server (such as JP4) and **hit Play!** to load the client "engine".

*At this point, WTF should be "orange" or transmitting 0 bytes (eg. "POSSIBLE CONNECTION ISSUE, PLEASE READ")

3. Start your BDO client normally from http://blackdesert.pmang.jp/
4. Press 'Start Game', connect to your character's server and get to character select.
5. Return to the server selection screen and check your WTFast client to see if it's "green" and has received/sent a few bytes.

6.
(a) IF it is green, you're safe to disconnect from SoftEther/your VPN. (WTFast has now taken over 'as the VPN' and is connected to the BDO server)
(b) IF it's still orange, you probably didn't load WTFast before starting BDO, or didn't go all the way to character select.
If you disconnect after disconnecting from SoftEther, you probably didn't do it during server select.
(c) If you disconnect at title screen -> start game, ???.

Enjoy your regular connection outside of game while having an improved ping in-game.
