  1. i (h)ear a lot of thing about how freeBSD is a great thing compared to linux. As i used a lot of freeBSD for work before jails become too ligth for us (no disk/cpu isolation at the time) and we moved to linux vserver isolation techniques and forgot about the bsd world.
  2.
  3. As linux vserver is less and less supported this one man project is not capable of moving as fast as the kernel is nowaday i was looking back to freeBSD. I noticed that jails still had no real disk+cpu+ram usage ressources isolation so i cannot use them ( or am i wrong ?). So the great things in freebsd are
  4.
  5. - dtrace (ohh yes this one...)
  6.
  7. - ZFS (can it do fair share and limits directly independently from the isolation tech?)
  8.
  9. - enterprise grade feature and mindset
  10.
  11. well i looked at this and it seems all the greatness in that comme from illumos/opensolaris and that illumos supports also kvm , linux emulation and docker. So i though i would ask the specialist:
  12.
  13. What would be the best choice in the BSD familly OS for semi hostile guest (i mean each guest is to a different customer ) hosting of LAMP servers ?
  14.
  15. I mean paravirtualisation to have native network and disk perf not full virtualisation where even with virtIO i would loose 30%+ of performances.
  16.
  17.
  18.
  19. best regards,
  20.
