  1. Super Mystery Dungeon FAQ
  2.
  3.
  4.
  5. Q: Everyone says Chespin is the best. Why?
  6. A: Chespin starts with several good moves. Rollout and Pin Missile both hit multiple times, Pin Missile being ranged, and once you boost your speed and accuracy, you absolutely destroy everything. In the postgame, it gets Drain Punch/Power-Up Punch as well. Chespin has range, power, and it's cute too.
  7.
  8.
  9. Q: How can I detect traps without items?
  10. A: Hit A to use your normal attack on a square. If there is a trap there, it will be revealed. Use this in Monster Houses as these can have upwards of 10 traps!
  11.
  12.
  13. Q: What should I keep in my bag aside from Looplets?
  14. A: Always carry around at least 2 apples, more depending on how long the dungeon is. Bring alone about 3 Oran Berries, 2 Elixers, 3 Reviver Seeds, a Petrify Orb or two, and wands of various kinds. Once you get the hang of things, harder dungeons may need more of these items.
  15.
  16.
  17. Q: How do I evolve?
  18. A: See Lapras, and head to the Remote Areas, and go to the Tree of Life. Note that since you'll end up recruiting every single pokemon eventually, this doesn't mean much.
  19.
  20.
  21. Q: What's the maximum PP a move can have?
  22. A: 30PP.
  23.
  24.
  25. Q: I can't evolve my starters, how do I do this?
  26. A: You're not 100% done with the Epilogue yet. Once you are, you'll be able to.
  27.
  28.
  29. Q: How much of a buff does evolving give?
  30. A: Zero stat increase at all. The only reason to evolve your starters is if you like the final form more, or want a different typing or moves.
  31.
  32.
  33. Q: Why am I getting my ass beat by a Salamence? I'm level 14 and this thing destroys me.
  34. A: This is more or less the game telling you to learn to rely on items. Always be packing wands and Reviver Seeds.
  35.
  36.
  37. Q: I beat the Salamence, now I have this pokemon that's massively overleveled. Is the game really this easy?
  38. A: No. Using overleveled pokemon all the time will make them go on break a lot.
  39.
  40.
  41. Q: Break?
  42. A: The game has a break system, where if you use the same pokemon a lot, they'll be unavailable for a couple days. It seems to happen less the higher your level is.
  43.
  44.
  45. Q: How do I change my ability?
  46. A: Trade a Gold Bar for a Hawlucha Token, and give it to Hawlucha. There are no Hidden Abilities, so no Protean Froakie or Speed Boost Torchic.
  47.
  48.
  49. Q: I'm in the story and I've ran out of Reviver Seeds! I can't get more, am I screwed? Do have to restart my game?
  50. A: Go to the main menu and go to Pelipper Island. You can play any dungeon you've cleared here, with any recruited mon. You can take the items with too, and the experience you gain here carries over to the main game.
  51.
  52.
  53. Q: Does every pokemon gain EXP while I'm adventuring?
  54. A: Yes, even on Pelipper Island.
  55.
  56.
  57. Q: What move list does the game take from?
  58. A: OR/AS
  59.
  60.
  61. Q: Are there move tutors? I want to teach my starter Heat Wave
  62. A: There are, but only postgame. Hawlucha's move tutoring is also extremely expensive
  63.
  64.
  65. Q: I need a good place to grind, where do I go?
  66. A: Mysterious Geoglyph in the postgame is very good, if you have a bunch of Fire pokemon with Heat Wave. Come here with a motivated team including a Fire type, and you'll get like 400exp per kill. The final floor spawns Genesects constantly.
  67.
  68.
  69. Q: What's the best way to buff up my stats?
  70. A: Equip the Water Looplet, enter a hallway, and throw the vitamins/sitrus berries/move boosting drinks through the two pokemon. There is still a chance to miss one of the two pokemon with an item, or very rarely, both. But it's worth chancing it because you get a good shot at doubling the effect of these items.
  71.
  72.
  73. Q: Where is the Water Looplet?
  74. A: Pledge Hill, you need to fight and win against Cobalion.
  75.
  76.
  77. Q: Are the donuts an candies worth it?
  78. A: No. They up stats by 1 as opposed to the vitamin's 2, and are unreliable.
  79.
  80.
  81. Q: I need gold bars for items, how can I get these?
  82. A: Keep an eye out for sparkly spots on the floor, they can have Gold Bars in them. Once you have enough, buy the Excavation Looplet from Cofagrigus, this will show gold sparkly spots, which can have Gold Bars, or even Joy Seeds.
  83.
  84.
  85. Q: Any other ways to get gold?
  86. A: You can find them in treasure boxes, and if you go to your deposit box, you can swap 100 of an item for 1 Gold Bar. This goes for ANY item, so always buy the sticks and stones Kecleon sells, grab those useless rocks, and save up to get more gold!
  87.
  88.
  89. Q: Mewtwo is kicking my ass, what do I do?
  90. A: Enter with a pokemon that knows Curse, and use it. It deals 500+ damage every time it deals damage. Once Mewtwo uses Recover, throw a Ban Seed at him to stop that for good. Cofagrigus is good for this fight.
  91.
  92.
  93. Q: My emera slots are full, should I even bother picking more up?
  94. A: Yes, if you use the emera itself, you can buff your stats for the dungeon by a little bit.
  95.
  96.
  97. Q: Are TM's infinite use?
  98. A: Yes and no. Rainbow TM's are infinite, others are not.
  99.
  100.
  101. Q: What's this about leveling up moves?
  102. A: The more you use a move, the better it gets, starting at Level I. First, power is increased, followed by power and accuracy, and finally power and PP, after which the move has gained a level and moves onto Level II.
  103.
  104.
  105. Q: Is there any benefit to gigantic pokemon?
  106. A: They have a larger range of attack, but they're also bigger targets.
  107.
  108.
  109. Q: I keep hearing about Wonder Mail passwords, where are they?
  110. A: Right here! http://pastebin.com/WRCppL2D
  111.
  112.
  113. Q: Secret bases?
  114. A: It's either a fun time, or a Monster House. Bring Petrify Orbs and room hitting moves just in case.
  115.
  116.
  117. Q: There are locked doors, do I need a key?
  118. A: These doors only open when you escort certain client pokemon to the door. Past them, a new dungeon opens.
  119.
  120.
  121. Q: I feel really underleveled, is this normal?
  122. A: Yes, the main story gives you little chance to grind.
  123.
  124.
  125. Q: How do I get through these dungeons? I'm getting my ass kicked
  126. A: Wands are your best friend. Petrify, Stayaway, Warp, Truant, Confuse, all of these are good. Keep some on hand.
  127.
  128.
  129. Q: I need some money, what's a good method for farming some?
  130. A: Go to Super Apple Forest, and collect every apple you see. Fresh apples sell for 100, Big Apples sell for 250, and Perfects sell for 500.
  131.
  132.
  133. Q: How do I steal from Kecleon?
  134. A: Put your leader (The one on the far left on the bottom screen's health meters) ON the stairs, go to the shop with another mon, and then steal. Let the thief get KO'd, and don't revive them. Bring enough reviver seeds to tank some hits from Kecleon, since three or four spawn around the stairs. As long as you have enough Reviver Seeds to last one turn, you'll make it out. You cannot switch leaders while stealing unless the current leader is KO'd.
  135.
  136.
  137. Q: Controlling the game seems a little odd, what are some good tips for this?
  138. A: Holding R makes you move diagonally. Holding Y lets you point yourself in a direction without moving. Pressing B while holding Y lets you Look Around the room without opening the menu, useful for searching out treasure. Tapping both at the same time opens the Message Log. Tapping B opens up your Bag.
  139.
  140.
  141. Q: How do I Mega Evolve?
  142. A: You must find an Awakening Emera and set it into your Looplet. If the pokemon has no mega, it'll just get a little stronger for a bit, becoming immune to frontal attacks. If it CAN mega evolve, it will. Its normal attack goes from dealing 5 damage to ~300, causing splash damage. Generally, you turn into a monster. But this only lasts a few floors at most, and once the meter fills up, you become Berserk, and there is a very real chance of losing control and OHKO'ing your allies.
