	A major issue in our society is the impact of drugs and drug trafficking upon the population. For many years, drug use has been illegal and punishable with very substantial personal damages. The current method of suppressing drugs is ineffective, and a change needs to be made. Decriminalizing drugs and encouraging treatment will engender myriad benefits not only for the individual, but for society as a whole – drug use will decrease and become more manageable, incarceration of users will be eliminated, and the violence associated with drug use will begin to diminish.
