  1. The Lunch Lady’s Apple Crisp
  2.
  3. Ingredients:
  4. 3 sticks of butter
  5. 1 ½ cups of brown sugar
  6. 1 cup of granulated sugar
  7. 3 ¼ cup flour
  8. 10 medium apples – Gala apples preferred
  9. Cinnamon
  10. Nutmeg
  11. Oatmeal
  12. Orange juice
  13.
  14. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  15. In a large bowl, combine the butter, both sugars and flour. Combine until the mixture is a slightly lumpy as a crumb layer for the top of the crisp.
  16. In a small bowl, combine 1 cup brown sugar, 2 tbsp orange juice, 2 tsp nutmeg. Set aside.
  17. Peel and core the apples, or just cut the core out of the apples. Create apple slices no more than ½ inch thick. Use a 13 X 9 inch pan, and spread a layer of butter on the bottom and sides of the pan. Place apple slices into the pan so that the layer is flat and evened out in the pan.
  18. Pour the orange juice, brown sugar mixture over the top of the apples as evenly as possible. Mix apples a bit, if needed to get the top layer of apples covered with this mixture.
  19. Lightly sprinkle nutmeg over the top layer of apples.
  20. Sprinkle cinnamon over the apples in a much thicker layer than that of the nutmeg.
  21. Sprinkle oatmeal over this mixture, and allow it to fall in between the spaces in the apples. The oatmeal will soak some of the juice from the apples.
  22. Pour apple crisp crumb over the top of the apples, and spread evenly to the edges of the pan. This layer should be flat, and should reach to the sides of the pan.
  23. Place in a preheated oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 30 – 40 minutes. Bake time will depend on the oven, so take care to check the crisp for light browning on top. Remove from oven and let set for about 10 minutes.
